Apprentice jockey Trevor Patel has been nominated by the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) to represent India during the International Apprentice Jockeys Championship to be hosted by the Macau Racing Club (MRC) in the first week of November this year.
Two apprentice riders, Trevor and A Sandesh were shortlisted by the RWITC after receiving MRC's request earlier this month but the former got the nod as he has ridden 24 career winners and is also eligible to carry a whip.
Trevor rode his first winner during the Indian Derby weekend atop King's Troop and has since grown in confidence. The eighteen-year-old apprentice who is placed under the care of trainer Sheraz Sunderji has been entrusted with horses by several top league trainers and the young lad has not let them down. Last Sunday, Trevor rode two winners for trainer Zadmal Singh, Swahili and Confiserie, both incidentally owned by RWITC chairman Vivek Jain's family.
