Mumbaikars, it's time to reclaim your city

CitiSpace and Tribe@Turf- A Royal Western India Turf Club Community Initiative are pleased to announce the Felicitation Event of ‘Breathing Space’ – An Exhibition on Mumbai’s Reserved Public Open Spaces.
Venue – Member’s Pavilion Lawns, RWITC, Mahalaxmi, Mumbai. (Entry via Governor’s Gate) Saturday: 14th April, 2012, 6 pm onwards.
Programme – Crisp felicitation and discussion on open spaces, walk-through of the exhibition and performance by legendary singer-composer Lesle Lewis, and an artisans festival.
Attendees – Friends of Mumbai City: Industrialists, Bureaucrats, IAS & IPS officials, Legal luminaries, media persons and concerned Mumbaikers.
The purpose of this exhibition is to not just create greater awareness of the Mumbaiker’s right to open spaces in the city, (information that is otherwise not easily accessible), but also to provide an engagement platform, where responsible citizens can choose to actively participate in the movement to save our open spaces.
The exhibition is also supported by Hathautee - a celebration and sale of handmade Indian arts & crafts on the lawns by aver 40 artisans .
Hathautee creates a platform that is a celebration of our being Indians and of a pride in our heritage. Hathautee’s aims to help young Indians - to understand Indian art & craft, to revel in it and to take it forward in a manner more relevant to the present times.
The Breathing Space exhibition will remain open to public on Sat, 14th April & Sun, 15th April 2012.
(11 am to 7 pm, Free Entry)
The event is open to all interested in preserving open spaces in the city.
About CitiSpace
CitiSpace (Citizens’ Forum for Protection of Public Spaces) established in June 1998 is an NGO which networks over 600 Resident Associations, Community Based Organisations (CBOs), NGOs, Trade/Commercial Establishments and individuals in most of Mumbai’s 24 Wards. CitiSpace has been working since 1999 to save Recreation Grounds, Playgrounds, Parks and Gardens, which are designated as Reserved Open Spaces in the Development Plan of Greater Mumbai.
About Tribe@Turf, an RWITC Community Initiative
The Tribe@Turf Community is committed to helping preserve and promote the sustainability of Mumbai city in terms of the environment, art & culture, and history. The T@T is supported by the Royal Western Turf Club (RWITC) and uses the physical space of the Mahalaxmi Racecourse as a meeting point for the Community.
The space at the Race Course in Mahalaxmi is a public space, and is South Mumbai's largest and most beautiful green lung. Thousands of people come here every day to walk, run, stroll, and just enjoy the serene sight of endless greenery.
As a Community, we continue to support activities such as fund-raisers for the Indian Cancer Society, cultural performances like Marathi Bana, music concerts by Pandit Vishwamohan Bhatt, Grammy winner Toumani Diabate, and Sonu Nigam, the Farmers’ Market and much more.
We aim to utilize this amazing open space in a way that is more participative and enjoyable to the citizens of Mumbai.
