BHA decision brings relief to RWITC stewards

Mumbai: The decision of the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) to uphold the punishment given to Irish jockey Richard Hughes has brought huge relief for the stewards of the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC).
RWITC stewards had banned Hughes for 50 days for not following trainer’s instruction on Jacqueline Smile in the upper division of the Sprungli Plate run on February 16 this year. Hughes had appealed to BHA not to reciprocate the suspension but BHA dismissed it.
The decision is a shot in the arm for the RWITC stewards, who have been struggling to bring the Boldenone controversy to an end for over a year now.
“We were quite confident that the ban will be upheld,” said Shivlal Daga, the most respected member of the stewards’ body. “Our case was such that BHA had no option,” he added.
“The decision of the BHA is a welcome development. International racing thrives on reciprocity between Clubs and their decision vindicates our faith in the system,” said RWITC chairman Vivek Jain.
