Mumbai: Young rider Tushar Nemane hit the jackpot with his first career ride at the Mahalaxmi racecourse on Thursday. The 23-year-old manged to land his first win on the first mount of career, something not seen in recent Indian racing history, when he guided favourite Faramarz to a fantastic victory in the first division of the PA d’Avoine Trophy. Later, the Pune lad ended a close second to Distant Promise in the DW Reid Plate.
“I was not nervous,” Nemane, who secured his trainee’s licence just two weeks ago, told TOI. “I was given a big encouragement by Shroff sir (Pesi). He told me, ‘Just do your best, as you do in the morning tracks regularly’,” added Nemane, who has been a riding boy for trainer Shroff for the last four years.
Nemane, who has studied till 12th standard in Commerce stream, learnt the basics of riding in Hadapsar (Pune) and always wanted to become a jockey. “I’m thankful to Shroff sir, who gave me an opportunity to work for him in the track works. A lot of great riders, both Indian and international, ride for Shroff and I learned a lot from them,” said Nemane.
