Melbourne Cup Display to feature high power Australian Delegation to Mumbai

The PBMM Day will feature for the second year running The Melbourne Spring Carnival Cup, an initiative of the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) in India.

This year Austrade, in conjunction with the Victoria Racing Club (VRC) have ensured a high power delegation from Australia to be at the races to witness the Cup and host a high tea in the members lawns.

On display at the High tea, and later in the paddock area, will be the Melbourne Cup 2012, especially flown in from Australia, for viewing. Valued at approximately 9.2 million rupees ($Aus 175,000) the time honoured 18 carat Gold Trophy has been won by five international horses- including last year’s French victor, Dunaden, since international participation opened in 1993 with the victory of Ireland’s Vintage Crop.

The Emirates Melbourne Cup 2012 will be worth $Aus 6.2 million or over Rs 300 million, making it one of the world’s most prized thoroughbred races.

As a build up to Sunday’s race, VRC is hosting an exclusive sit down dinner on Friday night, to be attended amongst others, by The Hon’ble Louise Asher, Minister, State of Victoria, Mr and Mrs Peter Varghese, Australian High Commissioner to India, Mrs Amanda Elliott, VRC Vice Chairman, Christopher Lemaire, 2011 Melbourne Cup winning jockey, Orhan Abbas representing Emirates and all senior management from Austrade. RWITC Chairman Vivek Jain, and members of the Poonawalla family will attend. Most of these delegates will be present at the Races on Sunday.
