Mumbai: Vivek Jain has again emerged as the most popular man at the managing committee elections of the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) held during its 96th Annual General Meeting, at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse, on Thursday.
Jain got maximum number of votes(908) and is set to be the chairman of the club for the third year in-a-row. This is fourth year on the trot and seven times in the last eight elections that Jain has got maximum votes. “I’m happy that the members have recognised my efforts again,” said Jain.
Former chairman Khushroo Dhunjibhoy also made it to the committee with 578 votes. Shyam Ruia has been named the chairman of the stewards of the club.
Elected to the Managing Committee: Vivek Jain (908 votes); Jaydev Mody (771); Champaklal Zaveri (742); Shyam Ruia (669); Ram Shroff (648); Dr S C Jain (633); Shivlal Daga (581); Khushroo Dhunjibhoy (578) and Geoffrey Nagpal (561).
Defeated: Ashwin Mehta (473); Gautam Lala (463) and Dhiraj Oza (42). Total votes: 1131 ; Valid: 1111; Invalid: 20.
