STEROID BOLDENONE STRIKES RWITC AGAIN

Pune: Anablic steroid boldenone, which was found in a high profile case involving three top horses earlier this year, has struck Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) once again.

Three horses, that arrived at the racecourse from the Nanoli Stud here, have tested positive for boldenone.

RWITC stipendiary stewards Pradyumna Singh confirmed the positive results but refused to reveal the names of the horses or other details. “As part of procedure, it will be brought to the notice of stewards at their meeting to be held on Saturday evening before being made public,” Singh said.

But according to sources, the horses that have tested positive are Delacroix, High Noon and Cindrella. All three horses, which have not raced so far at RWITC, are trained by Shyam Habbu.

RWITC chairman Vivek Jain expressed shock at the news. “This is unprecedented and the matter will be dealt with firmly, after enquiry. This is a most disturbing, and revealing finding, coming as it does just before the hearing on the pending boldenone cases is deliberated by the Stewards next week,” said Jain.

“Such cases play spoiler in our tremendous effort to clean up the sport and promote racing. Even one such instance gets magnified and is hugely negative in the perception that is conveyed on the image of racing that we are striving to showcase,” added Jain.
Khushroo Dhunjibhoy, who owns Nanoli stud farm, said: “Stewards should recognise that they have a problem. They have hired an integrity officer. They should let him join and conduct an in depth inquiry and make his recommendations to the stewards in all the cases.”
