Mumbai:
Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) members on Thursday voted for the fine dining restaurant, Gallops, inside Mahalaxmi racecourse, to stay.
At an extraordinary general meeting of the turf club, 595 members voted in favour of the resolution to approve the settlement reached between the RWITC managing committee and the BJR Group, which runs Gallops. There were 109 who voted against the resolution, while one vote was declared invalid. “It is great news that members voted in favour of the resolution. It will give a much-needed boost to the club’s finances,” Khushroo Dhunjibhoy, the chairman of RWITC, later told TOI.
Jasmine Singh, co-owner of BJR, said, “We are grateful to members of RWITC and its committee for taking a pragmatic approach in resolving this long-standing issue. We are also grateful to Justice Gautam Patel for his intervention to provide a win-win solution,” she said.
