From the Horses Mouth - Race form Analysis Guide for Saturday, 13th April, 2019

Race No. 1 :- The J. Robinson Plate – Maiden 3 Year Olds – Distance :- 1800M
DUMAS :-Once raced 3 year old gelding from the Vishal Gaikwad yard who has a strong staying pedigree and who should benefit from the step up to this galloping trip. He clearly looked soft on his debut over 1400M 3 weeks ago when finishing 5th to Kildare and he is likely to relish the step up to this trip. P. Trevor who rode him last time out as well retains the ride, he is expected to improve and be fitter today and looks a leading contender to get off the mark and is strongly fancied in this company.
JUSTIFIED :-One of 2 runners from the Imtiaz Sait yard in this field and the one with more scope to improve having had just the one debut run compared to Silver King who has run thrice already. Got the hang of things very late on debut when beginning to finish on to be 4th to Mishka’s Pride although he looks held by Silver King on a line through Astounding Bay. He too looks likely to eventually develop into a strong staying sort and it will be interesting to see how he performs with the benefit of the run with S. Zervan retaining the ride.
SILVER KING :-Stable companion of Justified who has already run thrice so far, with one promising effort on his 2nd run over a mile when he finished a close 2nd to Astounding Bay in a 3 way photo. He looked out of his league in the Shapoorji Pallonji Colts Championship last time out, dropping away to finish last of the 7 runners after leading till the bend but this is possibly easier. He needs plenty of riding to hit full stride so P.S. Chouhan looks a suitable Jockey booking but he may find one or two of these to be potentially classier and looks more likely to battle it out for minor honours.
CONSCIENCE :- Twice raced half sister to Invitation Cup winner Adjudicate so she clearly looks the part on paper and after needing an educative run over 6 furlongs on debut, she showed good improvement last time out upped to 1400M, making all the running and staying on well to finish runner up to Kildare finishing a little less than 5 lengths ahead of Dumas that day. She looks likely to do even better over this additional distance and has been working well since the run. She probably sets the form standard in this interesting maiden and with Neeraj Rawal in the saddle, looks to have an excellent chance to make it 3rd time lucky.
STARRINGO :- Another exposed 3 year old filly from the Dallas Todywalla yard who has run 4 times so far, gradually stepping up in trip from 1000 – 1400M and is now further upped to his much longer trip. Her two 7 furlong runs have been just modest, finishing a faraway 5th to Mystic Bay last time out so although A. Sandesh has been booked to ride and she has been working well of late, plenty of improvement will need to be unlocked for this step up in trip if she is expected to have a say. Small upset chance only.
CONCLUSION :-Although Dumas needs to improve at least 5 lengths to reverse the placings with the form horse Conscience, on their last meeting over 7 furlongs, the Vishal Gaikwad ward is expected to be good enough and is selected to prevail. Justified also ran promisingly on his debut and could trouble the pair if finding the expected improvement.
Race No. 2 :- The Regal Equity Plate – Class V – Distance :- 1800M
GANDALF :- Inconsistent 5 year old gelding trained by S.N. Joshi he has managed just 1 win so far from his 21 starts but has also finished runner up on 4 occasions and looks to have the potential to be better than this mark. He was very consistent and looked ready to strike during the Pune campaign but his Mumbai season has been very inconsistent. After having a lung opener to open the season, he showed good promise when runner up to Poco Azul over 1400M and was made favourite in a mile contest on the Derby weekend but ran miserably in spite of being partnered with Y.S. Srinath. He was given a run subsequently with a weak 5 kilo claimer but bounced back most impressively with A.S. Peter in the saddle to score his maiden win over 1400M beating Dragonmoss decisively by 3 lengths. He could only finish a fair 4th to Harmony Of The Sea next time out and appeared disinterested over 1200M last time out when trailing from the start. He does not appear to be the most straightforward sort but the points to note in his favour are he is likely to relish more galloping ground so the trip looks interesting and K. Nazil returns to ride him, having partnered him on both his 2nd placed finishes in Pune. He still appears to be reasonably placed on the scale and could very well score here so cannot be ignored.
FLYING DRAGON :- 7 year old veteran trained by S.S. Shah who has come down considerably in the scales since he has been getting on in years and we have to go back to September 2016 for his last winning effort. Overall with 2 wins but 15 placed efforts in 41 starts, he has dropped down to a mark of 29 now having been handicapped at 55 when at his best but he showed he still had zest for racing in a similar contest over a mile when finishing 2nd by a head to Sylvester when dropped into this grade. His last 2 runs have been in the higher class and he now drops back down to Class V and M. Ayyar who rode him in that good run, returns to ride. He appears to be quite well within himself at present and looks to have a good each way chance in this company.
WHO’SYOURDADDY :- Well bred and relatively unexposed 4 year old trained by Malesh Narredu, he has not much form to speak off but appears to be slowly coming into his own, having run 7 times so far with 1 placed effort. He made a late start to the season, having his first run only towards the end of February and caught the eye last time out over 1400M when making up plenty of ground from the rear to be a fast finishing 3rd behind Cormorant. He has been working very well of late suggesting that he has improved and the longer trip should be to his liking. S. Zervan who rode him last time out keeps the ride, he has plenty of scope to improve further and if he is able to build on that last effort then he looks to be a leading fancy to finally shed his maiden tag against mainly older opposition.
HIS MASTER’S VICE:-6 year old gelding from the Adhirajsingh Jodha stable who finally got off the mark last time out at the 21st attempt, finishing on nicely over 2000M to get the better of Romanesque in what looked a very weak Class V field. He has incurred a 5 ½ kilo penalty for that win which looks quite stiff but he should gain some confidence from the victory although the drop in trip does not look certain to suit him. Prior to his last 2 starts he had looked woefully out of form and he is yet to prove that he has some improvement left in him so although A. Sandesh who rode last time out retains the ride, he looks likely to struggle in this higher grade and may have to settle for a minor berth today.
MASTER OF STUDIES :-Improving 5 year old gelding trained by S. Waheed who has slowly been finding some form after coming to this yard from Altamash Ahmed and has shown marked improvement in his last couple of starts. Winless from 16 runs overall, he showed the first signs of some ability on Derby weekend when finishing on nicely from the rear to be a good 3rd to Gold Medalist over a mile and looked like he was ready to strike last time out when coming with a sustained run from the rear again over a mile to be in a 3 way photo and end up a close 2nd to Arrecife just a short neck ahead of Whoopsidaisy who was 3rd that day. He has been working very well since the last run suggesting that he has improved further and the booking of P.S. Chouhan today suggests that connections are anticipating a big run. He could just be coming right now and looks a leading contender to gain an overdue maiden success today.
WHOOPSIDAISY :- Front running maiden 5 year old mare trained by Faisal Abbas she has been gallantly trying to make an impression in similar contests but her losing run has now stretched to 24 and although she has placed on a couple of occasions, she does not seem to be finding any improvement. The closest she went came on her penultimate start when in a 3 way photo with Master of Studies and Arrecife but then she could only finish 5th dropped to 7 furlongs last time out. A.S. Peter who had ridden her in her last several starts is up again today and she merits each way consideration but perhaps the short Pune straight will suit her better and she is one to be remembered in Pune.
CONCLUSION :- The two to focus on in this competitive class V contest are the improving Who’syourdaddywho finished on well to be 3rd last time out and Master of Studies who just looks to be coming right and has P.S. Chouhan in the saddle today. The Malesh Narredu ward, being the younger and less exposed of the pair is just about given the edge. Top weighted Gandalf and the consistent Flying Dragon are also feared.
Race No. 3:- The DadyAdenwalla Trophy – Div. II – Maiden 3 Year Olds – Distance :- 1200M
BAIT AND SWITCH :-Once raced Varenar gelding from the in form yard of S.K. Sunderji who created a very favourable impression on debut when finishing a very good 2nd to the highly regarded Castilian over course and distance and should improve and strip fitter for that run. The 3rd placed Mirabilis has gone on to win since giving substance to the form and the switch from S. Amit to P. Trevor is a positive. He has been working very well since that run suggesting that he has made the expected improvement and with a good draw in Stall 3, he looks one of the leading contenders to score. The mare Najah was a Nashwan mare and his half brotherMajiba was a winner of 3 mile races in Hyderabad so the pedigree is also encouraging.
GOLDEN GUEST :- Excellent Art gelding from the Dallas Todywalla stable who is a half brother to Juno’s Guest and also made an encouraging start to his racing career when runner up over 1000M to the more experienced Daddy’s Pride. That run should have taught him plenty and he looks to have improved judging from his subsequent workouts. He came from behind that day so the additional furlong is likely to be in his favour and with A. Sandesh retaining the ride, he looks to be a strong each way contender and stands a good chance to go one better.
MACAU :- Very interesting debutant from the Hosidar Daji yard and the combination of the trainer and owner Dr. Suresh Chintamani have already sent out some useful types this season like Thailand and Royal Crystal. His siblings have all been useful handicappers racing mainly in Hyderabad and most of them having won 3 races in their career. He looks to have been solidly prepared to be fit enough on debut and has impressed in his preparatory work. The yard has had a good record with first time out runners this season so with K. Nazil booked to ride, he must be respected and could very well be right there at the finish.
THE CHEETAH :-Speedy looking Dean’s Kitten gelding from the stable of Deepesh Narredu, he has run promisingly in both his starts so far and is returning from a 2 month break having last raced on the 10th of February. Making his debut over 1000M, he finished up a close 4th to Ms Boss and showed improvement next time out upped to 1400M when making all the running and only being collared close home by Juliette and Victorious Sermon, ending a respectable 3rd as he was hampered by the runner up close home. His last few workouts suggest that he has been suited by the break as he has been moving suggestively and S. Zervan takes over in the saddle today replacing YashNarredu. The draw has not been kind to him in Stall 13 but the drop to 6 furlongs should suit and he may attempt to make all the running and could be dangerous if allowed an easy lead.
TRISTAR :- Promising looking Surfrider filly from the Nosher Cama yard who is a full sister to Long Range – winner of 4 of his 13 starts in Hyderabad, News O’Star (2 wins) and also Tinogona in Western India who won 2 races with S.K. Sunderji. She made her debut in the same race as Bait and Switch finishing 5th and has some ground to make up on that rival but was not given an unduly hard race that day. She looks likely to improve appreciably for that debut run and should be a lot closer to Bait and Switch today. P.S. Chouhan who rode her last time out keeps the ride, she has a good draw in Stall 2 and for those looking for something with value at a longer price, she looks a good value outsider and may just spring a surprise.
CONCLUSION :-This looks by far the stronger of the two divisions with some very promising sorts. Bait and Switch made an impressive debut in a strong maiden and is selected to get the better of another potentially smart sort in the form of Golden Guest. The Cheetah is working well and is also considered while Tristar may provide value for those searching for longer odds.
Race No. 4:- The DadyAdenwalla Trophy – Div. I – Maiden 3 Year Olds – Distance :- 1200M
MONK :-Debutant from the Sanjay Kolse yard who has been given a Mock Race to get him fit and looks to have improved from that judging from his last couple of workouts. He was withdrawn on his intended debut in February but has been given time to improve and considering that this division looks relatively weaker, he looks capable of being involved. S. J. Sunil has been booked to ride and although a paddock check is clearly warranted to ascertain his fitness, he looks one to keep an eye on from among the debutantes and is expected to run well.
RAWENO :- Twice raced Chinese Whisper colt from the in form stable of S. K. Sunderji who showed a little improvement from his debut run when making up late ground over this trip last time out to finish just outside the frame behind Mirabilis just 2 weeks ago. That appears to be the best of the limited form on offer and he is likely to have progressed from that run as well. The draw has not been kind to him in Stall 13 and the booking of Amyn Merchant may suggest that he still needs more time to come to hand but if improving on that last effort, he stands a good chance to make the frame and could be involved.
SPECULATOR :-Another well bred debutant, this one from the Adhirajsingh Jodha yard who is entitled to need this educative run but looks a smart sort on pedigree. His half brother Prolific Visit has won 2 races from his 5 starts in Kolkotta and he seems to have moved well in his preparatory work and gate jump although he has had just a couple of workouts so may be a touch short on fitness. The booking of N. Rawal is also suggestive that he may be going in for an airing today but he is another who is definitely worth checking out in the paddock and could develop eventually into a useful sort.
RHAPSODY :- Fashionably bred debutant from the Pesi Shroff yard who catches the eye on pedigree out of first season sire Speaking of Which from a well bred dam in the form of Analeah who is a daughter of Prevalence. She too has had just a limited number of preparatory workouts so is clearly not fully wound up but she moved attractively when shaken up in a Mock Race about 3 weeks ago and is likely to have learnt from that as well. P. Trevor has been booked to ride suggesting that connections fancy their chances and in this field which seems to lack strength in depth, she looks to have an excellent chance to make a winning debut and seems the most likely winner.
SPLASH :-Another well bred sort this one from the Dallas Todywalla yard and owned by the Poonwalla family which have been an extremely successive partnership this season. She too has been given a Mock Race to sharpen her up and she needed to be pushed into the straight but got the hang of things late on and was moving well towards the close. She too looks likely to need this educative run but seems a potentially smart sort and with Akshay in the saddle, could very well be involved.
CONCLUSION :-A much weaker looking division and with the raced horses not having much by way of form the Pesi Shroff trained Rhapsody looks all set to make a winning debut. She picked up nicely once asked the question in her Mock Race and should be good enough to tackle this lot. Splash and Speculator also appears to be promising sorts who are worth considering.
Race No. 5 :- The Racing Jorunalists Trophy – Class III & IV – Distance :- 1000M
GOLD FIELD :-Solid 5 year old sprint handicapper trained by Adhirajsingh Jodha, she has a good overall record of 4 wins from her 19 starts and seems to excel over sprint trips. She has had 5 runs this season, gradually working her way into form and after a couple of frame efforts, scored decisively last time out, coming with a late run to get the better of Untitled close home over this trip clocking a good time in the process. She has been penalized 4 kilos for that win which seems fair but Rising Brave who finished 3rd with a much weaker rider looks weighted to reverse the placings. She appears to have maintained her form and fitness since the run, A. Sandesh takes over in the saddle today and from a good draw in Stall 3, she is likely to make a bold bid to repeat and must be considered.
RISING BRAVE :- Dickey legged but speedy 6 year old from the Rehanullah Khan stable who has won 2 of his 16 starts and was very highly regarded in his younger days but seemed to have his career curtailed by numerous injuries. He has been gradually getting fit with his racing, having had 4 runs this season and seemed that he was regaining form last time out when finishing on well to be a close 3rd to Gold Field. He is better off at the weights with that rival today and for the first time this season, P.S. Chouhan takes over in the saddle from the feeble Shahrukh Khan suggesting that connections fancy their chances today. Although he has not won over this trip in the past, he has run well over it and he looks set to run a big race today and is very dangerous to ignore.
BETWEEN THE WATERS :- Speedy and progressive 4 year old gelding from the S.K. Sunderji yard who has been blazing the track in his workouts and has a fine overall record of 2 wins from his 7 starts, finishing runner up on 3 occasions as well. 4 of those runs have been this season and although he has not been able to add to his 6 furlong win first time out, he has run respectably on all the other occasions, last time out finishing on late over 1000M to finish runner up to King Khalil. P. Trevor who rode him that day keeps the ride, he appears to have the measure of Gold Field on their earlier meeting this season and he looks to have an outstanding chance to end the season with a win and should win if reproducing his excellent track work.
JUNO’S GUEST :- Speedy and well bred 4 year old from the small stable of Trainer Vinesh who is clearly one of the better ones from the yard and has started her career in grand fashion with 2 wins and a second place from her 4 runs so far. Starting the season with a smooth success over 1200M, she went on to finish a good close 2nd to Lorraine when upped to 7 furlongs and back from a break last time out, showed a good attitude and a clean pair of heels to her rivals to win by 4 lengths from Transform. She has been handed a stiff 6 ½ kilo penalty for that win but A.S. Peter claims 5 kilos in the saddle and she has also managed to bag the plum rail draw. She has yet to race over this minimum trip so will have to show that she has the speed for it but she looks to be progressing nicely with her racing and could earn another bracket if having the speed for the trip.
CONCLUSION :-Between The Waters is selected to get the better of Juno’s Guest and continue S.K. Sunderji’s fine run this season. Rising Brave is a speedy customer and looks the biggest danger from among the older horses.
Race No. 6 :- The Jockeys Trophy – Class IV & V – Distance :- 1200M
ORION’S BELT :-5 year old mare who is one of three runners from the Narendra Lagad yard and will be ridden by competent 3 ½ kilo claimer Raghuveer Singh. Winner of 2 of her 21 starts so far, she has had just 2 runs this season, needing the lung opener first time out and showing significant improvement last time out when finishing on strongly to be a good close 2nd to Cabellero over 1000M last time out. That trip would probably have been on the sharp side for her so this looks much more suitable and she is expected to improve again. She has top weight to defy but looks in good nick and looks to have a strong each way chance.
STEPPENWOLF :-Speedy 4 year old colt trained by Nosher Cama and will be ridden by retained rider P.S. Chouhan. Winner of 2 of his 8 starts so far, he seems to be at his best over this trip and ran disappointingly when tried over middle distances a couple of times. He has had 3 runs this season but ran poorly the only time he was ridden previously be P.S. Chouhan, with 5 kilo claimers riding him on the other 2 occasions. He finished 4th behind Pablo over this trip last time out but has been working well of late and may have improved. He does have a bit to prove but has scope to improve still and is dangerous to ignore.
DANCE THE DREAM :- Lightly raced and highly regarded 4 year old filly from the Imtiaz Sait yard who was a most impressive maiden winner over this trip last season on debut but seemed to lose her way completely after that and has been slowly working her way back into form. She looked like she was coming back to her best last time out when runner up to Cormorant and it is hoped that she will progress again. She is having just her 7th start and her 3rd of this season so is entitled to find some more improvement and if she can build on that last effort, then she stands a strong chance to get back to winning ways.
JETFIRE :- 4 year old gelding trained by M.K. Jadhav who has already had 12 runs so far and amazingly has finished runner up in 6 of them but seems to keep finding one too good although he has a high level of form. He was a firm favourite the last twice, going down to Sullivan over 1400M on his penultimate start and last time unable to reel in Divine Power over this trip and again ending up 2nd. He has had a short break so may have been rejuvenated since then and N.S. Parmartakes over in the saddle from A. Sandesh. He seems to be working exceptionally well so looks in fine fettle and must be given a very strong chance to gain a deserving maiden success.
TASCH :-Half sister to Costa Brava who made an impressive winning debut over 5 furlongs but was very disappointing last time out over this trip when showing no acceleration and ending up a very poor 3rd to Pablo. This will be just her 3rd start so she looks open to plenty of improvement and with P. Trevor now taking over in the saddle for the first time, she looks likely to be involved and could very well bounce back.
ANTARCTICA :-Improving 4 year old filly trained by Altamash Ahmed who looked vastly improved last time out when coming with a powerful run down the outside to outclass her rivals and win running away by a large margin. That win was in the lower class and she has a 5 kilo penalty to contend with against tougher opposition so she needs to make further progress. S.A. Amit now takes over in the saddle from Bhawani Singh who rode her last time out, she appears to have maintained her form and fitness since the run and should make a brave bid to repeat.
CONCLUSION :-A very competitive event and hard to pick a confirmed winner. Perhaps, the time has come for the perennial bridesmaid Jetfireto finally earn his maiden victory back refreshed from a short break. The list of dangers is long with the unexposed fillies Taschand Antarctica and the improving Dance The Dream heading it.
Race No. 7 :- The Ahu Plate – Class IV & V – Distance :- 1400M
STRONG STORM :-Well bred 4 year old filly trained by Dallas Todywalla who has managed to win just 1 of her 11 starts but has been threatening to strike after returning to handicaps and has run promisingly of late. She seemed to run below par when favourite last time out and only managing 4th to Bhaktawar but finished runner up on the previous 2 occasions. She looks to be working extremely well and connections have opted to take some weight off her back with Vishal Bunde booked to ride and claiming 3 ½ kilos. She looks to have maintained her condition quite well and looks to have strong each way claims in spite of conceding weight all around.
DAZZLING STAR :-Lightly raced and highly regarded 4 year old filly trained by Rehanullah Khan who has run 4 times so far, twice this season but has failed to build on her impressive winning debut over 6 furlongs last Mumbai season. She ran just once in Pune after a long break and flopped badly to finish 5th over this trip to Sassy Lass and her 2 runs this season she has been fancied on both occasions but after just being touched off by Divine Power on her reappearance, seemed to take a backward step when a hot favourite but only 4th to Thomas Hardy. She steps back up to 7 furlongs today and A. Sandesh takes over in the saddle but she seems to have a bit to prove at present and needs to show more on the track to justify the lofty reputation.
GRAND SINATRA :- Lightly raced and improving 4 year old gelding trained by Nosher Cama who has run 4 times so far, twice apiece in Pune and Mumbai and looks to have improved over the winter. While he finished 5th over this trip on both his Pune runs, both runs this season have been over 1000M and he has finished on in both races in a manner suggesting that he was crying out for more galloping ground so the step back up to this trip looks to be a good move. Flying at the death when 3rd to Cabellero last time out, he should be suited by this longer trip and looks a big danger to all with P.S. Chouhan in the saddle.
PRINCESS ELIZA :- Lightly raced and progressive 4 year old filly from the Karthik G yard who is still a maiden after 5 starts but ran an excellent race in the Indian Oaks when leading for a long way and was unlucky to be pipped close home by Cormorant when tried over this trip last time out. The form of that race looks very solid with Night Hunt and Cormorant both winners since and with Bhawani Singh replacing K. Nazil in the saddle, she appears to be the form choice in this field.
CONCLUSION :-Princess Eliza looked a winner last time out before being shocked on the post by subsequent winner Cormorant and should make amends today at the expense of the improving Grand Sinatra who should be suited by the step up to this trip.
