SIR CECIL BOWS TO STAR'S SUPERIORITY

Mumbai:
Star Superior, who had finished second to favourite Sir Cecil in their previous three meetings, finally proved superior in the most prestigious race of Indian racing, the Kingfisher Ultra Indian Derby, at the Mahalaxmi racecourse on Sunday. The second-in-demand colt won in grand fashion — by a handsome margin of five lengths from second placed Kolkata challenger Adjudicate. Sir Cecil finished third, a further 2-1/4 lengths behind while local star Sacred Roman took fourth position.
Pesi Shroff 's Valegro showed the way to a 13-horse field once the gates were opened with Vintage being left behind in the gates. Sacred Roman, in second place, was in hot chase of stablemate Valegro while Englishman David Allan had nicely settled Sir Cecil in third. The pre-race favourite was pursued with great intensity by Augustus Caesar while jockey Suraj Narredu was easy on Star Superior in fifth place followed by the rest.
Valegro brought the field in view from the grand stand as they all geared up for the home stretch. Sir Cecil made the first move taking over the leader Valegro. At the same time, Suraj put the Bengaluru challenger Star Superior in top gear. They disputed the lead for a while, but Star Superior soon overtook Sir Cecil and sailed away smoothly for a fantastic victory. Adjudicate, too, left Sir Cecil, who was rapidly slowing down, to finish second.
