RWITC announces stimulus tote betting
- By Usman Rangeela | Mumbai Mirror
In a bid to make tote-betting lucrative and attractive for all racegoers, the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) has announced a free contest of skill, as the club chooses to call it, through which one lucky bettor stands to win a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh.
This contest is actually linked to the Quinella Pool (where two horses nominated by a bettor have to finish first-second and it doesn't matter in which order). This promotional contest makes its debut on Sunday and coincides with the running of the Kingfisher Ultra Pune Derby, the Pune racing season's top attraction.
According to details released by the turf club, a bettor has to place a minimum bet of Rs 200 for the Quinella Pool of the Derby race and every winning ticket gets the usual dividend announced by the club and also qualifies for the lucky draw.
Speaking to Mirror, Ram Shroff, RWITC's managing committee member, revealed, "The club wants to rejuvenate its totebetting operations and revive every race-goer's interest in it. Our idea was to start a simple contest which, without putting any extra investment burden on the racegoers, is fairly easy to win.
"Thus we selected the Quinella Pool for the contest through which all correct nominations become eligible for the `Jackpot' and one lucky race-goer wins Rs 2 lakh.
"The club is confident that this initiative will gradually become popular and we aim to increase the prize amount initially to Rs 5 lakh and then a million rupees."
