Indian Sensation to Join Motion Barn
- By Alan Carasso
Serjeant At Arms (Ind) (Ikhtiyar {Ire}), winner of 12 of his 14 starts, including 10 black-type events, will soon join the Graham Motion barn to continue his career in the United States, the conditioner confirmed via text Thursday afternoon.
Winner of his first five career trips to the post, the son of Rahy's Serenade (Rahy) took out the 2016 Kingfisher Ultra Derby Bangalore last July (video, gate 1), but tasted defeat for the first time in the Mysore Derby (2000m) last October. He atoned for that effort with a convincing success in the Indian 2000 Guineas (1600m) at Mumbai in December (video, gate 3). Runner-up in the Kingfisher Ultra Indian Derby this past February, the bay has since rattled off five straight in stakes company, including a latest score in the Karnataka Mile Championship Cup (1600m) at Bangalore Aug. 4 (video, gate 2).
A son of Sheikh Hamdan's SW & GSP Ikhtiyar (Ire), Serjeant At Arms is one of six full stakes winners for Rahy's Serenade, who was exported to India after being purchased at the 1999 Keeneland November sale. The further female family includes champion Sayyedati (GB) (Shadeed), her graded-stakes winning son Almushahar (Silver Hawk) and MG1SW Golden Snake (Danzig).
Serjeant At Arms, who will continue to race for his current owners Mr. & Mrs K. N. Dhunjibhoy, is scheduled to be released from quarantine in Chicago Nov. 1 and will head to Motion's Fair Hill base thereafter to further acclimate to this country. Should all go well, Motion estimates that Serjeant at Arms could join the racing stable in South Florida during the month of January.
