FROM THE HORSES MOUTH - RACE FORM ANALYSIS GUIDE FOR SUNDAY, 17TH SEPTEMBER 2017
- By Cyrus Naterwalla
Race No. 1 :- The Proteus Plate Class V, 4 Years Old & Over Distance :- 1600M
COMMANDPERFORMANCE:-Well bred 4 year old colt trained by Dallas Todywalla, he has raced 7 times till date and has slowly been working his way into form after a setback which saw him off the track for a year after his maiden run. On his penultimate run when dropped into this grade, he ran a close 3rd over 1400M to Blavatsky and Alfredo. He returns to this grade after having raced in the higher class last time out and being a 4 year old with scope to improve, he is given a good each way chance in this field with Prashant Dhebe booked to ride.
HARMONY :- Well bred and sparingly raced 5 year old mare who used to be trained by NosherCama but was sold into Narendra Lagad's yard a few starts back. She has raced 9 times till date without success but went very close over course and distance last time out when going down to Samurai by Ύ length with Divine Angel back in 3rd. She has been working well since the last run and with further progress looks a strong contender to go one better with Dashrath Singh retaining the ride.
ROYAL ΙCLAIR :- 6 year old mare from the stables of Subhag Singh, she has a rather uneven overall profile with just 1 win to her name from 24 starts. However, that win came around this time last year where she absolutely decimated the opposition to win by a wide margin and she had run well the only other time she has dropped into this class since. She looks an outsider against the younger horses but could be dangerous eased into this class again and does merit consideration with T.S. Jodha in the saddle.
DIVINE ANGEL :- Well bred and lightly raced 6 year old mare owned and trained by C.D. Katrak, she showed some ability for the first time in 9 starts when ending up a close 3rd to Samurai just a short neck behind Harmony who reopposes again today. She looks capable of building on that last effort and if she can then she looks to have an excellent chance to score with Neeraj Rawal replacing A. Imran Khan in the saddle.
JEENA :- Exposed 5 year old mare trained by NiradKaranjawala she has 2 wins to her name from 26 starts, both her wins coming in this grade in similar contests. She has already had 2 runs this season so fitness should not be an issue and she looks on a workable mark at present. The booking of A. Imran Khan today suggests that connections are serious and she is another who comes into consideration and can add some pep to the finish.
BLACK JAGUAR :- 4 year old from the Narendra Lagad yard who has no form to his name in 17 starts over varying trips but who has tumbled down in the weights as a result. He was seen making good late headway from the rear last time out over 1000M suggesting that he needed more galloping ground and he is quite unexposed. Raghuveer Singh claims a further 3 ½ kilos off, he could just be coming to hand and looks a lively outsider who could spring a surprise.
CONCLUSION :- Harmony and Divine Angel look set to lock horns again but it may be worth taking a chance on the bottom weighted 4 year old Black Jaguar who was seen finishing on to good effect over 1000M last time out, is going practically bare back and may be suited by the longer trip. The other 4 year old Commandperformancealso merits consideration
Race No. 2 :- The Access All Areas Plate Class IV Distance :- 2400M
LADY BE GOOD :- 3 year old filly owned by the Poonawalla's and trained by MaleshNarredu, she has raced 5 times till date and has showed improvement with each step up in trip. She disappointed over mile on reappearance when a distant 3rd to Simon Says and Lord Grantham but that form has been franked since and she herself scored a fluent maiden success when upped to 2000M last time out, easily accounting for Swiftness who finished 2nd beaten 2 Ό lengths at level weight. She has 3 Ύ lengths to find with Swiftness on the last run but looks the type to improve further over this more galloping trip and with Yash Narredu in the saddle, she could well defy her penalty and score again.
OLLY BOY :- 5 year old colt who is an exposed handicapper who does not seem to be progressing much and looks quite vulnerable against the younger horses. He finished a well beaten 4th to Vulcan when tried over this trip last time out and although he is a confirmed stayer, he does not look in the best form and could fight it out for minor honours with S.A. Amit booked to ride.
CARNIVAL :-Improving4 year old filly from the Pesi Shroff yard she has raced 4 times till date and showed significant improvement last time out when finishing a game 2nd to Unforgettable You in the Independence Million. She looks likely to relish this further step up in trip and is in receipt of a handy 6 kilos from Lady Be Good. She has maintained her form and fitness judging from her recent work and now looks a leading contender to earn her maiden victory with Neeraj Rawal in the saddle.
SWIFTNESS :- 3 year old filly trained by Magansingh Jodha who is highly regarded by connections as she was campaigned in 2 tough races in her juvenile season. She too showed good improvement when upped to the 2000M trip and stayed on well to finish 2nd to Lady Be Good last time out. She is weighted to turn the tables on that rival now provided that she is able to stay the extra distance although she is not certain to reverse the form. She looks to have a good handicap chance here with Dashrath Singh up but may not progress as rapidly as the more fancied runners.
CONCLUSION :- Carnival appears to be coming on nicely after her good 2nd in the Independence Million and with a 6 kilo pull in the weights, she is selected to get the better of Lady Be Good.
Race No. 3 :-The Serum Institute of India Trophy Class II Distance :- 1000M
UNDISPUTED :- Tough and consistent 5 year old handicapper from the S.K. Sunderji yard, he races almost exclusively over sprint trips, having 4 wins to his name from 21 starts till date. He comes into this race in good form having just failed to reel in Abbey by a short neck over course and distance last time out and appears to have maintained his form well. A. Imran Khan retains the ride and even though he is conceding weight to 2 progressive three year olds, it is very dangerous to ignore him.
ALLORA:- Speedy 3 year old filly trained by Sanjay Kolse, she has a fine record of 3 wins and 3 seconds from 10 starts till date but campaigns mainly over 6 furlongs and may find things happening too quickly over this stiff 5 furlong trip. She could only finish 5th to Ladislaus on her reappearance run 2 weeks ago over 1200M and although she is entitled to improve for that run and strip fitter, she looks to have only a small outside chance in this field with C.S. Jodha in the saddle today.
KRAMER :- Above average Phoenix Tower 3 year old gelding under the astute care of MaleshNarredu, he has run 5 times till date and 3 of his races, the only blip in his career being when unable to concede weight in the F.D. Wadia Trophy over 1400M where he finished 5th to Rochester. He was a facile winner over 1400M last week, winning without breaking up a sweat so it is interesting that he takes a sharp drop in trip and is turned out again quickly. He looks in the pink of condition at present and is clearly one of the leading contenders.
HOUSE OF COMMONS :- Highly regarded 4 year old who has thrived and flourished since dropping to 5 furlongs and being ridden in hold up fashion, winning twice over this trip and finishing a good 2nd over 1200M. He may have found the weight to be a stopper last time out against Goldie's Pet and hence has been upped in grade without a victory resulting in a drop in weight from 60.5 to 51 kilos. Sandesh keeps the faith, he has been working well since his last run and at the low weight, he looks a very live threat to the 2 speedy 3 year olds and could upset their applecart.
GOD'S OWN :- Speedy 3 year old from the Narendra Lagad yard he has shown phenomenal improvement this season, scoring 2 stylish wins from end to end over this trip. He has gone up significantly in the weights as a result but looks in fine fettle at present and with Dashrath Singh up and the yard firing on all cylinders, he should make a bold bid to complete his hattrick and looks the one to beat again running off a low weight.
CONCLUSION :-Kramer appears to have a bit more quality and is just taken to hold off the speedy and in form God's Own with not much to choose between the pair. House of Commons looks a very real danger if he is suited by the drop in weight.
Race No. 4 :- The Rao Saheb Kedari Gold Trophy Class III, 5 Years Old & Over Distance :- 1400M
STREETJAMMER :- Good looking and consistent 5 year old from the Dallas Todywalla yard who maintains his condition well and usually runs a good race with some versatility regarding trip. He has won 3 times in 18 starts till date and went very close to making it a 4th win last time out over a sharp 1200M when he finished on like a rocket to be a close 2nd to Vistana in this grade. He seems to relish weight carrying as well and with P.S. Chouhan in the saddle and extra furlong appearing ideal, he looks the most likely winner in spite of the heavy impost.
AN JOLIE : - This 6 year old mare trained by Nosher Cama is an owner mate to Streetjammer and has 2 wins to her name from 21 starts so far, her last win coming over 1200M back in April 2016. She has not been in the best form lately and finished a well held 6th in the Panchshil Million last time out behind New England. Yash Narredu takes over in the saddle and she has an each way chance if returning to her best but may find a couple too good and strong today and is an outsider.
UNCLE SCROOGE :-M.K. Jadhav trained 5 year old who has 2 wins and 4 seconds from 18 starts but is usually effective over much further, his wins coming over a mile and then 2400M. However, last time out over this trip in a similar contest, he led right from the start and had a useful lead in the straight before tiring late on and ending up 4th to Yanna Rascala. Sandesh now takes over from N.S. Parmar in the saddle, and if forcing tactics are employed again and he is allowed an easy lead up front, he could just kick on and score and looks an interesting contender.
SENSEX :- 5 year old gelding trained by Imtiaz Sait, he does not appear to be the most consistent type having raced 17 times with both his career wins coming in the latter stage of his career. He was fancied on his reappearance over 1200M but could not get into the contest and may just have been rusty and needed that run. He looked quite progressive over this trip during the recent Mumbai season and with C.S. Jodha up today and the added fitness advantage, he looks a solid each way contender.
HEDWIG :- Sparingly raced 5 year old grey trained by Rehanullah Khan, she was won twice in 14 starts and has been running quite well over this sort of trip and off this sort of mark. She was in excellent form in the early part of the Mumbai season but seemed to suffer a setback after her 2nd run and has been out of form since. She summered in Bangalore where she ran modestly in 3 runs so she should be fit enough and with S.J. Sunil booked to ride, she could be involved if returning to her best.
CRACKLIN' ROSIE :- Tiny 5 year old from Faisal Abbas' yard she is small in stature but can raise an effective gallop and has done quite well in her limited career, winning 3 times from 12 starts. She was a stylish winner on her reappearance in the lower class where she won easily from Rapid Girl whom she should be able to hold today as well. She seems to have maintained her form and fitness well, gets along well with Suraj Narredu who rides her today and looks a strong contender from the bottom of the scale.
JUDICIOUS :- 5 year old mare trained by C.D. Katrak who has been working well almost from the beginning of the season but seems inconsistent and does not always reproduce it on the track. She finished 3rd to Furious N Fast on her reappearance run but then ran poorly upped to this class last time out. Neeraj Rawal takes over in the saddle today but she may be in the handicappers grip at present and needs to pull out further improvement before being considered a serious prospect.
CONCLUSION :- Very competitive older horse handicap. Streetjammer was finishing on strongly last time out and is selected now with the extra furlong suiting him much better. Cracklin' Rosie is in form and appeals next with Suraj Narredu up while Uncle Scrooge could be the dark horse and spring a surprise if allowed his own way up fron.t
Race No. 5 :- The Villoo C. Poonawalla Million Maiden 3 Year Olds Distance :- 1200M
COLLEGIUM :- Comes from the stables of S.K. Sunderji and has raced 6 times till date, twice this term and has placed form to his name mainly over longer trips. However, he showed a penchant for this drop to sprinting when running a good 2nd to Powerhaus and should hold the reopposing Victoriana on that run. He is still unexposed over sprint trips, appears to be in good condition at present and with A. Imran Khan in the saddle, looks to have a very good chance to score here.
GALLANT KNIGHT :- Comes from the yard of Karthik G. and appears to be quite high in the stables pecking order so looks a good type. He has raced just thrice till date and was impressive on his reappearance run over this trip where he was badly hampered at the bend and in the straight, and finished full of running to be 2nd to Mygrator. He went on to run a decent 4th in the F.D. Wadia Trophy but will likely be suited by the drop back to this trip and Sandesh is reunited with him. He is the highest rated among this lot and looks a very strong fancy to succeed here.
TAKE FIVE :- Comes from the yard of Malesh Narredu and has raced just twice till date and could be a deemed an unlucky loser when odds on favourite last time out, not getting the hang of things until very late in the contest and powering home to just fail and catch Bunting once the penny had dropped. She has run with weaker company than Gallant Knight but is sure to be fitter and sharper today and looks a big challenger with Yash Narredu on board.
VICTORIANA :- Also from the MaleshNarredu yard, she has already run 3 times this season and has made the frame on each occasion but does not really seem to be progressing as she should. She finished a length behind Collegium last time out over course and distance and although she has Neeraj Rawal booked today and the rail draw, there is no obvious reason why she should reverse that form and she looks more of a place contender.
WABI SABI :- The least experienced of this lot having made her debut just a month ago over 1000M where she was given an educative run and finished last of the 7 runners. She seems to have improved for that run judging from her recent trackwork and although she does not appear to have an obvious chance on paper, her trainer would not have entered her here without a hope and she is an unknown quantity with Dashrath Singh an interesting booking.
CONCLUSION :- Gallant Knight is a confident selection to correct his yard's poor run this season and looks the most likely winner here with Take Five and Collegium appearing to be the main dangers .
Race No. 6 :- The S.A. Poonawalla Multi Million (Grade 3) Terms 3 Years Old Only Distance :- 1600M
CAPRISCA :- This Imtiaz Sait trained 3 year old colt has already established himself as one of the leading colts at the centre and has an excellent record in 4 starts till date. He won his maiden over 7 furlongs on his 2nd start where he beat Selfie Star by a length although she was making her debut and ran green that day and then went on to run a close 2nd to Pure Zinc in the Breeders Juvenile Championship. He made an impressive first appearance on the Pune Track when ridden off the pace for the first time and still coming with a powerful run to get the better of Glyndebourne over 1400M. He is sure to come on for that run and strip fitter and has a fitness advantage over Pure Zinc today although he is conceding 1.5 kilos to him. C.S. Jodha is booked to ride and he is anticipated to run a very big race.
PURE ZINC :- Very highly regarded grey colt trained by Adhirajsingh Jodha, he has impressed one and all in his 2 starts till date. After looking soft and making odds on favourite Zenon pull out all the stops on debut over 1400M, he scored a stunning upset on just his 2nd start in the Breeders Juvenile Colts Championship, narrowly getting the better of Capriscaand beating a high quality field in the process. He has already been touted by many as being the winner of this years Pune Derby and is making his comeback amidst much hype. He has been solidly prepared with 2 Good Mock Races and with A. Imran Khan booked to ride, looks a live danger to all and is strongly fancied.
SELFIE STAR :- This grey trained by Dallas Todywalla has been going from strength to strength this season and is bidding for a hattrick after 2 stylish wins already this term. Winning with authority over 7 furlongs earlier this season, she showed she had improved when a facile winner over a mile last time out, conceding weight and winning with plenty in hand. She comes into this at the top of her game and Y.S. Srinath has flown down especially to ride her. She looks a worth adversary to the two colts and has an excellent chance to win this.
SUMMER RAYS :- From the yard of Imtiaz Sait and sporting the claret and gold silks of Shapoor Mistry, she is the most experienced of this lot having run 6 times till date with 2 wins to her credit. Both her wins have come over 1200M but she showed she does get at least 1400M last time out when ridden off the pace and finishing a good 2nd in the F.D. Wadia Trophy. She has been working well since then but may just find a mile stretching her in top company and is not that strongly considered for that reason. She deserves her place in this line up and if getting the trip well, has the form to score
BATELEUR :- The unknown quantity in this line up, he made his debut 3 weeks ago over 1400M and travelled strongly for much of the journey before beginning to tire close home but still winning with authority from Admo. He has been thrown into the deep end here on just his 2nd start and in spite of his good work and likely improvement, it is a very tough ask for him to win this at this stage.
CONCLUSION :- A fascinating contest in spite of the small field and it is very close between Selfie Star, Pure Zinc and Caprisca with the filly just given a wafer thin edge as she won stylishly over this trip last time out
Race No. 7 :- The Cardinal Plate Class IV Distance :- 1200M
TRIPLE THREAT :- Progressive 4 year old filly trained by Mansoor Shah, she has raced 8 times till date and has a win and two seconds to her name. After having a lung opener this season she ran a cracker in the higher class last time out when finishing a good close 2nd to Goldie's Pet over 1000M and is now eased in grade into the lower class. She looks likely to progress again and should not mind the additional furlong and with P.S. Chouhan booked to ride, she is strongly fancied to go one better if running upto the same level.
POWERHAUS :- Improving 3 year old filly from the Narendra Lagad stable, she was a fluent winner over this trip last time out, and looks likely to progress again. She has shown good improvement in each of her 3 runs this term and convincingly beat Collegium and Victoriana last time out. She has a 6 kilo penalty to contend with but is likely to progress again and is given a strong chance to score a quick encore with Dashrath Singh in the saddle.
LADY SERGEANT :- Speedy 3 year old filly trained by S.S. Shah who is a winner of 1 of her 5 starts but has given a good account of herself on each of her runs till date. She was strongly fancied on her reappearance run last time over 1000M but possibly lacked a touch in fitness and faded away in the closing stages. She should benefit considerably from that run and be fitter and sharper today and also should appreciate the additional furlong. She has been working very well of late and with A. Imran Khan in the saddle, she looks set to return to winning ways.
COSA NOSTRA :- Sparingly raced 3 year old from the stable of Faisal Abbas who had has just 2 runs till date, one apiece in Mumbai and Pune but has shown considerable improvement in his track work of late and has the scope to improve. He still has to show some spark on the track but could be an interesting outside with Amyn Merchant up and bears close watching.
ANGEL'S HARMONY :- 3 year old filly who has a similar profile to Cosa Nostra, having raced twice till date and from the yard of Altaf Hussain. She ran very promisingly on her debut in Mumbai when finishing 4th to Gold Field in a decent maiden and has been given a lung opener since then to blow away the cobwebs. She appears to be coming along steadily judging by her recent trackwork and could be a dark horse who could spring a surprise from the bottom of the scale with good apprentice S.A. Amit booked to ride.
CONCLUSION :- Lady Sergeant is taken to strip fitter from her previous run and get the better of Triple Threat who ran very encouragingly last time out. Angels Harmony could spring a surprise from the bottom of the scale and also bears watching.
Race No. 8 :- The Neona Plate Class IV 4 Years Old & Over Distance :- 1000M
MY BLESSINGS :- 4 year old filly from the MagansinghJodha yard, she has looked vastly improved this season and has a creditable record of a win and three seconds from her 5 starts till date. She was a fluent winner over this trip on her reappearance and possibly ran even better next time out when leading for a long way and finishing runner up to Mygrator. D.S. Daman retains the ride, she looks in excellent form at present and looks a leading fancy to score another win in this grade, in spite of conceding weight all around.
CHARMING :- 4 year old filly from the NosherCama yard who began her career with figures of 2-1-1 but seems to have lost her way since then and needs to bounce back. She has not been beaten too far in her last two runs in similar contests and although a lot is to be taken on trust and she may still be coming to hand with S. Jaykumar booked to ride, she can strike if back to her best in this easier grade.
ROCK N RIO :- Exposed 4 year old handicapper from the Narendra Lagad yard he clearly has ability but has only been able to pass the post first once in 20 attempts and does not always appear to give off his best. He showed signs that his turn was not far away when finishing 3rd behind Mygrator and My Blessings last time out but has 3 ½ lengths to make up on My Blessings which looks a tall order. He seems to have maintained himself since the last run and Raghuveer Singh claims a valuable 3.5 kilos. He merits each way consideration.
QUEEN RIA :- Speedy 4 year old filly from the yard of Mansoor Shah who has run 5 times till date but has not been seriously tried as yet. The one time she was fancied, on her last start in Mumbai she obliged by overcoming Samurai to win decisively over 1200M and has had a lung opener on the Pune track to improve her fitness. She is still quite unexposed and H. Zeeshan who has been booked to ride is a good sprint rider. She will receive plenty of weight from My Blessings and if she looks fit in the paddock, then she could prove to be a big danger.
PHILADELPHIA :- 7 race maiden from the Dallas Todywalla yard who is beginning to become frustrating to follow and appears to have her limitations. She finished 4th to My Blessings earlier in the season and is now weighted to reverse that form but she seems to lack the scope of improvement of her rival and may not be able to reverse the form. She had a good handicap chance with Prashant Dhebe up but could be found wanting again.
WHAT A NICE GIRL :- 5 year old mare who used to be trained by C. Rajendra but has recently shifted to the yard of Arif Patel. She has raced 7 times without success but ran some suggestive races over sprints in the lower class. Her recent trackwork has been quite eye catching and with N. Nadeem claiming a further 5 kilos, she is running practically bareback and can cause an upset from the foot of the scales .
CONCLUSION :- My Blessings appears to be progressing nicely and in spite of top weight is taken to prevail here from the unexposed Queen Ria who could be a danger. Philadelphia is also well handicapped and should be considered along with the feather weighted What A Nice Girl
