FROM THE HORSES MOUTH - RACE FORM ANALYSIS GUIDE FOR SUNDAY, 9TH APRIL 2017
- By Cyrus Naterwalla
Race No. 1 :- The Master Shifu Plate – Class IV – 2000M
SHALOM :- This got abroad 4 year old filly from the all conquering Pesi Shroff yard made her racing debut just 3 weeks ago over an inadequate 6 furlongs. She was in the rear until turning for home and was given a nice educative ride, covering a little ground in the straight without her rider being too severe. She will no doubt have benefitted greatly from that experience and this more galloping trip appears to be much more suitable. She has been working well since that run and now stands an excellent chance to score
CARE FREE :- Began racing very late in her career and as a result has raced only 7 times till date in spite of being a 6 year old. She has been running some promising races over middle distances this season, just being pipped by The Other Song on the post and then finishing on late to be 3rd to Vice Admiral both over a mile. Last time out she finished 3rd to Jager Bomb over 2400M and this drop in trip may suit her better. She looks in good form at present and with Neeraj Rawal back in the saddle she is expected to make a bold bid
JAGER BOMB :- His overall profile is unconvincing with just a solitary win to his name from 22 outings, that win coming over this trip but way back in August 2015. He has slowly been working his way into form this season and finished a good 2nd over 2400M on his last start. He was withdrawn at the gates just last week so needs to behave himself but if he does run, then he would be a danger with P. Trevor taking over in the saddle
JUNE :- This 5 year old is both enigmatic and versatile doing well over distances ranging from a mile to 2400M but lacking in consistency. Her last run in this class produced a gritty victory over a mile and she has been campaigning in the higher class since then, last time out ending up last of 3 over 2400M. She returns to this class now, likes to front run and if in a galloping mood then she could score from pillar to post with S.A. Amit claiming a valuable 2 ½ kilos
EIGER'S TIGER :- This 4 year old gelding from Narendra Lagad's yard has appeared to be in the handicapper's grip since claiming his maiden victory over 1800M back in September. He has already run 8 races this term and has been making the frame in his last few starts without looking like winning. Hyderabad ace Akshay Kumar is up today but he looks like he needs a slight drop in the scales before he can win again and should contest the minor places once more
RITZ :- Gained an overdue maiden success over 2400M last time out but that was in one of the weakest field's possible in the lower class and she was still hard pressed to win. This looks a much tougher task and she will need to show marked improvement if she is to have a say here
CONCLUSION :- Shalom could be the class act in this field and is strongly fancied to shed her maiden tag over this more suitable trip. If the Street Cry filly does not run upto expectations, then it looks quite open with Care Free and Jager Bomb appearing next best
Race No. 2 :- The J. P. Vazifdar Trophy – Class III – 1200M
LADISLAUS :- The 4 year old gelding from S.K. Sunderji's yard has been quite consistent in his 13 race career and showed good improvement last time out to score over course and distance beating Arakawah and Turf Dancer convincingly and being weighted to confirm the form. He has a 5 ½ kilo penalty to tackle for the last win but still looks well placed on the scales and with P. Trevor retaining the ride, he looks to have an excellent chance to repeat
IRISH BAILEY :- This half sister to B Fifty Two made a promising debut last March but then did not race again till November where she scored a convincing maiden win over this trip. She has run 4 times since then, being quite consistent and winning once on her penultimate run in the lower class. She finished 3rd to Arakawah last time out and is about 2 lengths better off with that rival on that run. She looks a danger from the bottom of the scale with Neeraj Rawal up and is expected to run a very big race
KOROL :- This 5 year old has done well in her limited career with 3 wins to her name from 12 starts, the last of those coming back in December over course and distance where she came with a late run to beat Traherne comfortably. She appears to need time between her races so should be raring to go since her last run was about 6 weeks ago and she has been working very well of late. She has a good strike rate and must be respected
ARAKAWAH :- The 5 year old has hit form in his last 3 starts and after running two respectable 3rd s over sprints, behind Ladislaus on one occasion, he showed good resilience last time out to hold off House of Commons and score with Irish Bailey finishing 3rd on that occasion. He looks out handicapped against both Ladislaus and Irish Bailey today but could improve further and should not be ignored
CARBONARA :- This full brother to Champion Sprinter Attila returned from a gelding operation to score a thrilling victory over 7 furlongs back in February, getting up late to beat Sawgrass and Miss Saigon. However, he then ran disappointingly in his last 2 starts and it will be interesting to see if the drop to sprinting will suit him as he likes to come from off a strong pace.
CONCLUSION :- Ladislaus appears to be well handicapped in spite of his decisive victory last time out and is fancied to score a quick encore under champion jockey P. Trevor with the bottom weighted Irish Bailey appearing to be the main danger. Korol who has been working well and ran a close 4th when last seen is also respected
Race No. 3 :- The A.C. Ardeshir Trophy (Grade 3) – Terms 4 Years Old and Over – 1600M
MRS. PATMORE :- Began her racing career only in October last year but quickly developed into a most exciting prospect and on only the 3rd run of her life, she scored a brilliant victory in the Indian 1000 Guineas beating the subsequent Derby winner Hall of Famer in a battling finish. She then finished 2nd to Temerity in the Indian Oaks and 7th in the Derby appearing not to stay the longer trip. She has been judiciously rested and prepared since then with this sort of event in view and back at a mile, she looks hard to beat in spite of being unfavourably placed on the Terms
LONDON :- The 4 year old son of 1000 Guineas winner Fair Always has an almost identical record to Mrs. Patmore with 2 wins 2 seconds and a third in 5 career starts till date. After winning his first two races impressively, he finished a neck 2nd to Sky Mine in the General Rajendrasinhji Million over a mile where he was perhaps a bit injudiciously ridden. He then proceeded to finish a thrilling short head 2nd to Germanicus in the Golconda 2000 Guineas before again ending up 3rd to that rival in the Hyderabad Derby where he looked a non stayer. He too has been well rested and prepared for this contest and the compelling factor is that he receives 6 ½ kilos from Mrs. Patmore which may just tilt the scales slightly in his favour
B FIFTY TWO :- The 5 year old has been running with credit in Terms races for some time now and appears to be most effective over 1800 – 2000M so this trip may be bordering on the sharp side for him but he was given a clever front running ride to steal the Eclipse from Alaindair a couple of starts ago and may be suited by the small field and tactical nature of the race. He comes out way better than Mrs. Patmore on official ratings being rated 111 to her 89 as they run at level weights so could be fancied on that score but it looks tough for him to beat the two 4 year olds
JACK FROST :- Another seasoned and battle hardened Group Race performer he has a fine overall record of 6 wins from 17 starts but has been campaigning over much longer distances this term, last time out getting up late to beat Commodore in the C.N. Wadia. This huge drop in trip may not be to his advantage and he looks the outsider of the quartet
CONCLUSION :-In spite of the small field this should prove to be quite competitive with the two 4 year olds Mrs. Patmore and London expected to fight out the finish. Mrs. Patmore would be the clear choice at level weights but with the 6 ½ kilo difference it should be extremely close
Race No. 4 :- The M.D. Petit Plate – Class V – 1600M
DEM SAO :- This well bred 5 year old mare appears to be way better than her current rating of 26 but she has been notoriously bad at the gates throughout her limited career and was withdrawn the last twice this season. She however impressed in a Mock Race just last week and if she goes into the gates again then she will take all the beating. Bhawani Singh is an interesting jockey booking and she is taking on mainly exposed older handicappers so should go well
SWEEPING MOVE :- This lightly raced 6 year old mare from Dr. M.A.M. Ramaswamy's yard has also been lightly raced in her 10 race career and almost scored a deserving success on Derby Day but was nabbed on the line by Sussex Pride. She was then disappointing dropped to 7 furlongs last time out but that may not have been her true running and she is worth giving one more chance to. It is interesting that a 5 kilo claimer has been declared to ride her and she is drawn wide at 13 which is a bit of a deterrent but she has leading form claims on her earlier 2nd.
MASTER SERGEANT :- He has raced 7 times till date and showed some signs of ability last time out over course and distance when finishing a good 3rd to Brazos over course and distance. He is out handicapped with Sweeping Move on a line through that rival but could build on that last performance and have some improvement left in him. S.A. Amit who has been in good form this season has been booked to ride and he is expected to run a big race for his small yard
VIKING :- He is nicely bred and has been blazing the track almost since the beginning of the season but does not seem to reproduce it on the race track. He did finish 3rd to Nelson's Blood over this trip on his last but one run but was disappointing when only a hard ridden 4th over 7 furlongs last time out. Perhaps this drop in grade will see him in a better light and he is scopey and looks interesting with out station rider Akash Rajput booked to ride
STAR SCHOLAR :- Fully exposed 4 year old who has been campaigned over a variety of trips but seems to have found some form the last twice and last time out over 2000M made favourite Forest Fire work very hard to get past him and may be able to dominate better over this shorter trip. He lacks the scope of some of his rivals but P. Trevor keeps the faith and he may be able to win from end to end although the 14 draw doesn't help matters
HURACAN :- Won his only start when with Imtiaz Sait and has tumbled down the scales since then with a string of poor efforts. However, dropped back into this grade he gave signs he was finding some form when making the frame last time out finishing just behind Oscillation. Looks extremely well handicapped at present and if he can build on that last run then he looks an interesting outsider here
OSCILLATION :- The 5 year old is an 18 race maiden who has been fancied on his last few starts but has only managed to run into a place without looking like being ready to strike. He could again only finish 3rd when hot favourite last time out and perhaps he needs more galloping ground. Neeraj Rawal now takes over in the saddle but the percentage call here is to oppose
CONCLUSION :- If Dem Sao behaves herself at the start and takes a level jump then she looks better quality than these rivals and should gain her maiden success. Otherwise it looks extremely competitive and would be tough to call
Race No. 5 :- The A.F.S. Talyarkhan Trophy – Terms Maidens 3 Years Old Only – 1000M
FANTASY STAR :- This debutant from the Malesh Narredu yard looks an extremely exciting prospect on paper and could be the class horse in this field. She is a full sister to Bold Majesty who won the Bangalore and Mysore Derbies, The Bangalore 2000 Guineas and The Deccan Bookmakers Colts Championship and was a high class performer. She has been well prepared to be fit enough on debut and impressed in a recent Mock Race where she led for a long way and was not extended to be 3rd to La Magnifique. She appears to be the class act in this field and is strongly fancied to make a winning debut in spite of an unfavourable draw of 12
GOLD FIELD :- Once raced 3 year old from Adhiraj Singh Jodha's yard who made a pleasing debut over this trip on debut when finishing 4th to Kramer in a race which has worked out well. She is likely to improve for the experience and has been showing out well in morning track work so she looks a speedy prospect and must be considered. Her full brother Red Express won 4 races over sprints in Hyderabad so there is speed in the pedigree as well
ASCENSION :- Is one of the more experienced in this field having already raced thrice all 3 times over this trip and showing good form the last twice. She has finished 2nd to Lincoln in a Million race on derby weekend and then ended a flying late 2nd to Pokerface last time out. She has drawn a good stall in No.2 looks fit and well and although lacking a bit in quality, is likely to be involved
QUEEN'S BEST :- Another very interesting prospect who is a full sister to Dandified and made an impressive debut back in January where she finished a close 2nd to Juggernaut. Si Gentillesse who was 3rd that day returned from a lay off to win a maiden contest and she is following the same path as she has not run since. There is not much work to go on so fitness is a concern but she looks a promising prospect and with Neeraj Rawal up looks very dangerous to ignore
VICTORIANA :- Debutant from the small stable of S.A. Waheed who is a full sister to Zinfandelle and Unico Corazon and has been showing out nicely in the morning trials. She appears to have been given enough work to be fit and ready on debut and with out station rider Ashish Rajput booked to ride, she looks another interesting outsider
CONCLUSION :- Fantasy Star appears to be a classy type and should be the one whom they all have to beat. Gold Field made a nice debut and looks the main danger along with the unexposed and potentially classy Queens Best for whom fitness is a concern
Race No. 6 :- The Stylecracker Stakes – Class IV – 1000M
BENEFICIAL :- The 4 year old has run 10 times till date, getting his maiden success a couple of starts ago when beating New England and Romantic Warrior and he has run well both times since then, last time going very close over 6 furlongs when finishing 3rd to Slam Dunk. Looks in good form, is working well and hence strongly fancied to score in spite of top weight
ZINFANDELLE :- Has raced 5 times till date and after being tried over longer distances in her first few starts, she pounced late to score over this trip on her penultimate run. She disappointed when fancied over 6 furlongs last time out but perhaps the drop back to this trip will see her resume her winning ways. She is working well and cannot be ignored
FABIO :- Scored his maiden success over this trip but was tried over longer trips subsequently without yielding much success. He has dropped back to sprinting the last twice and has run well on both occasions, just failing to reel in Motherland over this trip on penultimate run and then finishing a close 3rd to Grey Flannel next time out. Drop back to the minimum is expected to be in his favour and he looks likely to go well again with Sandesh now taking over
PHILADELPHIA :- She has raced 4 times till date, twice last season and twice this season and has overall been quite disappointingly, running very tamely when a hot favourite last time out. Her manner of racing suggests she may be worth trying over further but connections persist with this trip for now and P. Trevor has been booked so maybe she can find some improvement but has plenty of doubts about her
MESOPOTAMIA :- Made her debut in the Gool S. Poonawalla so she is obviously held in high regard and although finishing 7th she was only 5 ½ lengths behind the winner. This looks way easier than that race and with the benefit of the run and expected improvement, she looks to have an excellent chance of a lenient looking opening mark and the No. 1 draw
CONCLUSION :- A tricky affairbut Mesopotamia is the suggestion as she made her debut in a much tougher race than this and has the maximum scope to improve. Of the seasoned campaigners, Beneficial and Fabio look the most reliable and also must be considered
Race No. 7 :- The Prince Jehan Plate – Class III – 1000M
MOTHERLAND :- Has quickly developed into a useful sprint handicapper and showed good tenacity to hold on from the front last time out and score from Fabio and El Tycoon. She has not been harshly penalized for that win, seems to be well within herself and is given a very good chance to score a quick encore
MIZILLA GOLD :- The 5 year old has been mainly in good form this season, scoring a smart maiden win over this trip back in December and following it up with a good close 2nd to Incentio. She has since switched yards and runs for the first time for new connections but if she resumes in the same vein then she looks to have a very good chance to regain the winning thread
VICTORIO :- Very speedy and effective when on song and returned from a short break to run a good 3rd to Wonder Story last time out. He has a good claimer booked to ride now, should strip fitter and looks to have a good chance to return to the winner's circle
RIDER ON THE STORM :- The 7 year old was in brilliant form around this time last year but lost his way during the Pune season and has been steadily coming down in the scales since then. His runs this season too have not been convincing and he needs to show something more before he can be fancied again. Rank outsider
CHARMING :- Lightly raced 4 year old who looked an exciting sprinter in the making on her first 3 runs, winning twice including on reappearance here but then ran a shocker when finishing dead last back in January and has questions to answer after that. She has been well rested since that run and given time to recover and if she is back to her best, then she looks a big danger to all from the plum draw
CONCLUSION :- These races usually prove to be tough to solve and this one is no exception. A chance is taken on Charming in the hope that she has recovered from her dismal run last time out, she is running at a low weight and has the plum no 1 draw. Motherland and the speedy Victorio appear to be the main dangers
