FROM THE HORSES MOUTH - RACE FORM ANALYSIS GUIDE FOR WEDNESDAY, 1ST MARCH  2017

- By Cyrus Naterwalla

Race No. 1 :- The Priceless Plate – Class III and IV – 2000M

ELEGANT BEAUTY :- Began her career with S.K. Sunderji but shifted to MaleshNarredu's yard in the middle of the Pune season. She has raced 8 times till date, winning on 2 occasions both times over 7 furlongs, a distance beyond which she is yet to travel. However, on her last start, she made excellent late headway from the rear of the field to be a fast finishing 4th over 7 furlongs suggesting that she was worth a try at this longer trip. She is unexposed over this trip but looks in good form and if staying well then she looks to have an excellent chance. The pedigree sends mixed signals with Iridescence a half sister going a mile but Alisha's Pet best at 6 furlongs.

SABIQ :- The 6 year old has been in good form this season and was a resounding 9 ½ length winner over this trip in the lower class last time out. He has incurred an 8 kilo penalty for that win but looks in top form at present, and with A. Sandesh to guide him, he looks a very strong fancy to repeat, being a confirmed stayer over this trip. He may lack the scope of elegant beauty but definitely looks the form horse.

RELENTLESS PURSUIT :- Transferred to ImtiazSait's yard at the conclusion of last Mumbai season and had a lung opener earlier in the season where he finished 5th. Stepped up to 9 furlongs last time out, he took over the running at the top of the bend and stayed on to hold off the erratic favourite Star of Harmony and score by a head. He is likely to improve again and a 5 kilo penalty does not appear harsh. He comes in at a low weight and must be seriously considered for a quick encore.

EIGER'S TIGER :- Has one win to his name from 13 starts but has been acquitting himself fairly well over middle distances without winning. He was finishing on late to be a close 3rd over a mile to Streetjammer and Batman and should not mind the additional 400M. He is capable of being involved but does not look totally reliable.

UNCLE SCROOGE :- Another enigmatic and inconsistent performer, he needs to be held up and delivered late and seems more effective over 2400M. He is carrying a big weight against some unexposed and improving types and seems more of a place prospect here.

JUNE :- She has been campaigned over a variety of trips and likes to front run on most occasions. She just lasted out to hold over a mile last time out and looks an outsider here but she could be dangerous if allowed to dictate the pace from the front.

CONCLUSION :- Elegant Beauty has the scope to improve over this longer trip and is fancied most with the last time out winners Sabiq and Relentless Pursuit both capable of troubling her and scoring, should she fail to stay

Race No. 2 :- The Hong Kong Jockey Club Trophy – Terms Maidens 3 years old only – 1400M

COLLEGIUM :- Is the first foal of brilliant 1000 Guineas winner Alma Mater and has raced twice till date. After finishing 5th over 6 furlongs on debut, he showed good improvement when running a close 4th in the Breeders Produce Stakes, the form of which has been franked handsomely by Tutankhamun and Timeless running 2nd and 3rd in the Poonawalla Million. Collegium did not look fully wound up that day and with further progression he emerges as the form choice and is a strong fancy to shed his maiden tag at the 3rd time of asking. Dashrath Singh is in the saddle again and he looks a leading contender.

MYGRATOR :- Is making his debut from the powerful MaleshNarredu yard and has been working exceptionally well in the build up to this race. He looks a very forward sort on paper and seems very capable of making a winning debut. His dam Haunting Memories was a high class performer in her own right and he is a half brother to the talented Goldilocks. Sandesh takes the ride and he looks a worthy adversary to Collegium.

MANIFOLD :- A good looking brother to Pacific Dunes had a nice educative run when finishing 5th to Bigsur over this trip. He looked gross and not fully wound up that day and Pesi Shroff's wards tend to improve significantly from 1st to 2nd run. He has been working quite well of late and is likely to run much better today. There is a slight doubt regarding the trip as Pacific Dunes, after being tried over further eventually came and won his maiden over 5 furlongs. He has Neeraj Rawal to partner him and must be considered.

POWERHAUS :- Has raced twice over sprints till date, unplaced on both occasions but she made good late headway last time out over 5 furlongs suggesting that she was worth a try at a more galloping trip. Her last couple of workouts have been impressive and although not having as much to offer on pedigree as her rivals, she could make the finish interesting.

POETRYINMOTION :- A half sister to Espada is a debutant from the ImtiazSait yard who looks a little short on preparatory work and may be out for an outing. She is expected to improve appreciably on what she does today but looks a decent sort and can be considered a rank outsider who could spring a surprise with the in form C.S. Jodha up.

CONCLUSION :-Collegium looks the form choice if building on his good 4th in the Breeders but Mygratorlooks a nice sort on paper and could be classy enough to overturn him on debut. The two of them should fight it out with Manifold capable of upsetting the pair if showing improvement on his debut run

Race No. 3 :- The F.K. Vakil Trophy – Div. II – Class IV – 1400M

LOGIC :- From Vishal Gaikwad's stable and owned by the powerful Shirke- Dhunjibhoy combination, he made his debut way back in December making headway from the rear to finish up a modest 5th to Classicus over this trip. He has been solidly prepared since then and his recent workouts suggest that he has improved considerably. He looks to be taking on a relatively modest Class IV field and is expected to win this with normal progression.

RAIN DANCE :- The 5 year old is lightly raced for her age but is still a maiden after 14 starts although she has gone quite close on a number of occasions. She finished on nicely to be a close 3rd over 6 furlongs to Irish Bailey with the same rider up and should appreciate the extra furlong. She seems to have achieved fitness and is expected to go very close to gaining an overdue first success.

NEW ENGLAND :- Has raced 4 times till date and looked ready to strike on his penultimate run when he finished on strongly to be 2nd to Beneficial with J.E. Pereira in the saddle. He was heavily fancied over 7 furlongs last time out but could not accelerate after being well placed and finished down the field. It's still early days and he is worth giving one more chance to especially if the money comes from him again. He looks the dark horse here although having something to prove now.

AEOLUS MAXIMUS :- The 5 year old keeps finding one too good having finished runner up on as many as 7 occasions, including last time out behind Chizzler who has gone on to frank the form. He has now gone 33 starts without a win though so although he is likely to be involved again, a leap of faith is required to back him. He should be considered each way.

TROMBONE :- Has been fancied on a number of occasions but is yet to pass the post first and seems to have gone off the boil in her last 2 starts. She has been given a 1 month break to freshen her up and the booking of Sandesh is encouraging. She clearly has something to prove but should come into consideration.

CARNIVAL :- Sister to Midnight Dancer from the Pesi Shroff yard, she probably looks to be out for an airing and is likely to come into her own over further at a later stage. However, runners from the yard have to respected in this grade and hence she should come into consideration.

CONCLUSION :- Logic looks the main contender to get off the mark here with Rain Dance capable of troubling him if she builds on her last good effort. New England was strongly fancied last time out and could make amends if that run is ignored

Race No. 4 :- The Narayandas J. Dave Plate – Class V – 1600M

FIRENZE :- A well bred 4 year old from Sanjay Kolse's yard she has run well in each of her 4 starts till date. She led briefly in the straight last time out over this trip before tiring to finish 3rd to Sussex Pride and Sweeping Move. She had several of these behind her that day and with improving Santosh G. taking a valuable 2 ½ kilos off, this looks an excellent chance for her to get off the mark.

BRAZOS :- Has been working his way into form this season, the last twice making good late headway and finished 1 ¾ lengths behind Firenze last time over this trip. He too looks to be progressing nicely and looks one of the main contenders here although he has to improve to reverse the form.

SIR SONG :- Has an inconsistent profile with just 1 career win to his name so far but he has been placing with some regularity over this trip since August 2016. He finished a close 3rd on his reappearance to The Other Song but ran behind both Brazos and Firenze last time out. The booking of Neeraj Rawal inspires confidence and he should be involved but looks more of a candidate for the minor places and is more exposed than the two more fancied younger horses.

TORREZZO :- Has been working well for some time now and ran a promising 4th on his penultimate start but flopped badly last time out and finished well beaten. Good apprentice has been booked today and can improve still so worth giving one more chance to and can be involved if in a galloping mood.

SECRET FLAME :- 5 year old from Narendra Lagad's yard who has been quite consistent over this trip and off this mark and is expected to run well again. Again is more exposed than some of these but should come into consideration each way and is capable of being involved.

THE OTHER SONG :- 39 race veteran but still has zest for racing as she showed when flying late to score over this trip on penultimate start, beating Sir Song and Secret Flame. Far from reliable as she made no show over 2000M last time out but looks a lively outsider who could pop up when least expected and should not be ignored.

CONCLUSION :- Firenze looks to have found a good opportunity to get off the mark at the expense of Brazos.

Race No. 5 :- The Haunting Memories Plate – Class III, 5Years Old & over – 1000M

HIROHAMA :- 5 year old filly who was making her name as a sprinter last year and was running well over 5 furlongs in this grade. However, she presumably had a setback and has raced just once in the last year where she finished down the field. Returning again after a substantial break so she does have fitness to prove but looks to have a strong chance if back to her old form and if she looks fit and well then she is worth taking a chance on.

DANCING PRINCE :- Seems at his best over this trip and clocked a fast time when winning over it in Pune back in October. Had 3 runs over 6 furlongs earlier in the season but now returns to 5 furlongs and with Neeraj Rawal booked and recent good work, he looks a strong contender from the foot of the weights.

VICTORIO :- Won back to back races over this in Pune and returns to this class after 2 unplaced runs in Class II earlier in the season. He too is returning from a short break but Raghuveer Singh is an excellent rider for a front runner and takes a valuable 5 kilos off. Looks neatly handicapped in this field and another who can be supported after seeing his condition in the paddock.

MT TIANMEN :- Is now 7 years of age but has been in the form of his life this season and after scoring consecutive wins over this trip, he ran an excellent close 4th against younger opposition last time out and was not disgraced. His mark has risen from 39 to 58 of late but is in top form and very dangerous to ignore him back in older company now

PHOENIX KNIGHT :- 5 year oldsprinter from Dallas Todywalla yard who always works well and has run 2nd on 5 occasions but winner only once so does not look totally straightforward. He ran an excellent close 2nd on penultimate start but then flopped badly when fancied next time out. Fully capable of scoring if at his best but is unreliable so very risky to recommend him

WONDER STORY :- Has suddenly hit form in the last 6 months and has 3 recent wins to her name including last time out when upsetting over 1200M. Comes into the race in good form and seems to have hit form so must come into consideration

CONCLUSION :- A very trappy affair with any one of the eight capable of scoring on their day. A tentative selection is Victoriowho has a good 5 kilo claimer declared and has the speed to tackle this lot if fit and well

Race No. 6 :- The F.K. Vakil Trophy – Div. I –Class IV – 1400M

SENSEX :- Has been in good form all three runs this term, winning over this trip in good fashion an following it up with a good 3rd before getting pipped on the post by Volantis over a mile last time out. Drop back to 7 furlongs and Sandesh in the saddle are both positives, he is working well and looks set to resume his progress.

JETAWAY :- The sparingly raced 5 year old has been improving with every run and showed a nice turn of foot to come from behind and win easily in the lower class. 6 kilo penalty may not be enough to stop her, capable of improving on just her 7th start and she looks likely to make a strong bid to follow up in this higher grade

GLORIANA :- Began her racing career relatively late and on just her 2nd start, came very close to scoring, collared by a rank outsider late in the day over this trip. Expected to make further progress on just her 3rd career start and looks to have an excellent chance to go one better

CLASSICUS :- He too began his racing career this season and after running a promising race on debut over 1000M, he won authoritatively over this trip on penultimate start. Ran green and drifted out over a mile last time out to finish 4th which halted his progress but this just his 4th start and he may be suited by the drop back in trip.

WILD JACK :- 4 year old from the M.K.Jadhav yard who has been in consistent form this season, finishing 2nd over 6 and 7 furlongs on 3 occasions. Even last time over inadequate 5 furlongs he was only 2 lengths behind the winner and back up to this trip now, he looks to have a strong each way chance and should not be ignored

POLLYANNA :- has raced exclusively over sprints till date and start to finish winner over 5 furlongs in Pune so it is interesting that her shrewd trainer steps her up to this trip and talented apprentice booked. Looks a dark horse who can upset so keep an eye

CONCLUSION :- another competitive event with the winner likely to emerge from Sensex, Gloriana and Jetaway

Race No. 7 :- The K. J. K. Irani Plate – Class V, 5 Years old & over – 1200M

WHAT A NICE GIRL :- Has looked likely to score the last twice, getting hampered in large field when favourite on penultimate start and then worn down late on by unexposed Pacific Dunes last time out. Has been holding her form well and with Sandesh retaining the ride, she is strongly fancied to gain a deserving first success stepping back up to 6 furlongs

RARE SILVER :- Was quietly fancied over this trip on Derby Day and went very close when close 2nd to Go Marisa Go over 1400M last time out. Hinted that his turn was not far away last time out and dropped back to this trip, must be respected with C.S. Jodha up now.

GOLDMSITH :- Winner over 1000M on his last start in Pune and has been given two runs in Mumbai to get him fit. Recent track work has been good and booking of J. Chinoy is a positive so looks a big danger to all if he is fit and ready to go after a short break

SUPER BOLT :- Claimed an overdue maiden success coming with a strong run from the rear to beat Deccan King over this trip and turned out again quickly under a statutory penalty. This win could have given him some much needed confidence and hence he should try hard to repeat

ALFONSO :- Has just one win to his name in 20 starts till date so does not look a reliable sort although he has dropped to a reasonable mark now. Dashrath Singh now takes over which suggests that he is fancied and looks a dark horse who can upset and could be considered in this field

CONCLUSION :- What A Nice Girl should win after 2 unfortunate runs with the main danger looking to be the unexposed Rare Silver. Goldsmith has also been working well and comes into the reckoning

Race No. 8 :- The M M T Pandole Plate – Class IV – 1000M

MOTHERLAND :- Has a speedy pedigree and was a winner over 6 furlongs on the opening day and drops back down into this class after failing twice in the higher class. Has been working very well of late and given a strong chance to resume her progress back in this class. Has a decent draw and Sandesh is booked so looks a strong contender

POET'S SONG :- Is a speedy 4 year old from the Vishal Gaikwad yard who was an impressive winner over this trip in Pune. Finished a close 5th back from a break last time out and if building on that he has a strong chance to get back to winning ways in receipt of 7 kilos from Motherland

ORLA :- Has been running quite consistently this season, including when finishing on to be a good 2nd behind Irish Bailey last time out and has been holding her form well without quite showing improvement. She looks vulnerable against the younger horses so should run well but looks tough to win and seems more likely to fill the places

LOCARNO :- The 6 year old has been in good form recently, winning over this trip on his last start in Pune and then returning from a break to run a good 3rd to Mt. Tianmen. Weak apprentice does not have the best strike rate around but in good form and hence must be considered here

BIDSTONE HILL :- Speedy 5 year old who has twice previously been a winner over this trip and drops down in grade after having run some forward races in the higher class. Has a good draw and good apprentice booked so looks a big danger and could try and win this from pillar to post

CONCLUSION :- The two 4 year olds Motherland and Poet's Song should fight this out between them with Bidstone Hill looking one who could go well at a price
