CLUB DAY AT THE RACES ANOTHER INITIATIVE OF THE RWITC
by Vivek Jain
The very successful Indian Derby Weekend may be over, but we are still at a full gallop to bring you an endless array of innovative race days.
Derby Day drew about 20,000 to Mahalaxmi, but other than the numbers, the net financial result for the RWITC, up substantially on last year, and a very satisfied sponsor were the icings on the cake of our most iconic event.
Negotiations for a renewal of the Derby sponsorship which ended with this year’s running will begin in right earnest at Bangalore on the Invitation Cup Weekend.
Coming Thursday, we continue our much appreciated initiative of Club Day at the Races, where eight premium clubs of our city will have races named after them and we host their membership. The objective is to build reciprocity between sister Clubs, network in an informal setting and draw the right target group to our venue to showcase the sport. Being a Thursday, they will also get to witness evening racing under the lights, a great attraction, especially for a first timer.
Bombay Gymkhana, CCI, Acres, Willingdon, Otters, Malabar Hill, NSCI and Radio Presidency Clubs will all have races named after the Club and though it is a weekday we expect a fair number of their membership come to enjoy the races under lights.
This has already created a huge buzz, and we expect the Presidents and Committee’s and hundreds of their members to come to Mahalakshmi as the sun sets over the Arabian Sea. To give a further boost, we have Stylecracker, who hosted the first everand very well attendedNight Market at our Mini Club just a few days ago, to curate a fashion and food fest with live music to give the new audience a taste of all that we have being doing to promote our racing days.
Club day comes as a precursor to The Poonawalla Breeders’ Multi Million on Sunday, often referred to as the Juvenile Derby, a day renowned as much for its fashion and glamour as for the excellent racing action on the track as a potential champion is crowned. And do not forget, a chance to win a car is always the big draw of the day besides a host of other prizes.
Despite the financial crisis, we continue to pull out all stops to give you something new to look forward to each weekend of racing, as the season enters its wind down phase.
