Huge Sunday to follow Sell-out Derby Day
The excitement of the Indian Derby has hardly waned, and the RWITC has pulled another rabbit from its bag, by staging another Super Sunday following India’s mega racing event.
A ten race card, with eight trophies and four glamorous races, including two Grade 2 events, is the fare on offer coming Sunday.
The two top races are the Byramjee Jeejebhoy Eclipse Stakes of India and The Dr. S.C.Jain Sprinters’ Championship. The former, one of Mumbai’s most historic races is being promoted as a “race for a cause” with a charity drive for the sponsors’ Home for Destitute children, who will also perform at the venue. This is in keeping with RWITC’s new focus on promoting social causes. A nine horse field is in the fray for the 2 million purse.
The Dr.S.C.Jain Sprinters’ Championship, named after a past Chairman, and the country’s topmost sprint race after the Sprinters’ Cup, is worth a record near 2.5 million and has attracted a full house bunch of 16 topmost sprinters. The Jain family will, as every year, offer a stunning trophy, a work of art, with trophies for the jockey and trainer.
A new sponsor, the Canadian Tourism Commission, will be sponsoring a million for juveniles. The top draw for the race will be the chance to win a five day trip to Canada, with hotel stay, and entry to the exclusive IIFA Awards in June. The possibility of a celebrity star is on the anvil. CTC is also hosting a grand High Tea.
The ELLE Cup, now in its third year, is yet another attraction of a day packed with events. The ELLE event always draws a socially elite crowd, and this year will be no exception. Cine star Neha Dhupia will be the guest of honour.
The added carat of brought forward pools should ensure the totalisators are kept ticking.
