Platinum Weekend awaits the RWITC
By Vivek Jain
It may be March, and the sun blazing, but we continue to bring red hot days (pun intended) at Mahalakshmi each weekend. Coming up is a double header under the lights. On Saturday, it will truly be a Platinum Day, in deference to Platinum World, with great innovative elements. RWITC’s newest sponsor, led by their founder Sushil Wadhwa, will in addition to the million rupee race, bring fashion and style to the races when the big events are all done and over and the weather not so kind.
Platinum will host the 23 Femina Miss India finalists, of which contest the grand finale is in early April, for an afternoon at the races. They will be accompanied by six reigning beauty queens, who in all probability, will be driven on the track in a rare vintage. In addition six live bands will create the ambience, evening racing is being increasingly stamped with. It is our effort to keep the interest alive in the sport till the very end. Certainly, getting the entire short listed ladies is a triumphant move by the sponsors, and proves their commitment to the sport and to showcase it in all its glory.
The Platinum day will be the precursor to Lions Club Day on Sunday, where the entire day is dedicated to charity, replicating the hugely successful Rotary Day in the last season. Six races have been named after the social organisation’s associates with international Board members expected. In addition, there will be a carnival atmosphere with food stalls, artisans and even an exhibition of Lions Club projects covering a range of good causes.
So it will be a heady weekend encompassing beauty and charity, and while this brings the curtains down on Magnificent March, it will give way to Awesome April, with four power packed weekends of huge events on the anvil in the backdrop of evening racing, which appears to becoming a permanent feature of the Mumbai season in years ahead.
