A day of race and revelry
IndiaToday
It's important for an institution or organisation to not forget its roots and those that helped it climb the fame ladder. Lauding the same tradition is the Dr Govind Ram Gurbaxani Memorial Trophy, which is a memorial race that the Royal Western India Turf Club, Mumbai, has named after its esteem member, Govind Ram Gurbaxani.

The event surrounding the race comprises a carnival-like ambiance with food stalls by restaurants and cafes serving gourmet food and beverages.
The contest of skill (lucky draw prizes) is open to all members and guests in the member's enclosure, without having to bet on the tote. At the entrance, all guests will receive a contest of skill form for free; all they have to do is nominate the first 3 placings in the Dr Govind R Gurbaxani Memorial race and drop it in the box placed in the member's enclosure 30 minutes before the race begins. The entrance charge for guests is Rs 300.
Prizes comprise everything from a 2-night stay at Ananda Spa, Rishikesh, and a 2-night stay at Jaisalkot, Jaisalmer, to a buffet lunch for 2 at the Trident, Mumbai.
Being held on February 21 (Sunday), this year, the event will see evening races, beginning at 4 pm and ending at 8 pm. The event being an 8 race-card event, races will be run every 30 minutes. Guests, besides members, are also welcome to buy their day's lawn badge at the entrance, which costs between Rs 300 and Rs 500.
