The Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) has decided to stage a race in honour of the late Dr. M A M Rammasawmy on the Indian Derby day on February 7, 2016. Dr. Ramasawmy passed away last Wednesday in Chennai.

The RWITC became the first racing club in India to bestow honour on the late Ramaswamy by not only observing a minute's silence during the races but also playing a brief film on his big wins at Mahalaxmi Racecourse last Thursday . “I recommended the stewards to frame a race in his honour on Indian Derby day , as Dr MAM had won this most coveted prize in Indian racing for record seven times and that indeed would be a magnificent tribute to his memory . The stewards agreed to frame a Class 1 race in his name on the biggest day of Indian racing,“ Vivek Jain, media and marketing chief of the RWITC, told TOI on Friday . In addition, the RWITC is making a montage on “Ramu“, with interviews and vignettes which will be played on CCTV at the Sunday races. The day will also feature an all sponsored card of eight races.
