Be Safe has the best credentials for The Indian 2000 Guineas
By Bob Sawhny
Mumbai: The 2013-14 Mumbai Meeting witnessed some classy and impeccably bred 3yo colts / geldings-who should run well in the 2014 Indian 2000 Guineas, which will be run around December, 2014 in Mumbai and thereafter in -The 2015 Indian Derby.
However, one highly classy 3yo Colt, Be Safe, in my opinion, stood out from All the present three-year-old colts / geldings and he could have been unbeaten in his 4 starts. Detailed narrative of the Champion Colt-Be Safe is given herein below:
Be Safe (Holy Roman Emperor-IRE- Oriental Lady-IRE) Trainer: M. Narredu
He is an extremely classy colt who has run 4 races, won thrice and ran 2nd in his last run on 23/2/2014 in The 1400M Poonawalla Breeders’ Multi-Million (Gr.1) a race, which he should have easily have won, but unfortunately lost. Be that as it may, his stylish victories were (1) His maiden win on 27/10/2013 in Pune over 1000M by a widening 2-1/2L in a speedy time of 1-00.12s and (2) On 29/12/2013 in Mumbai-The 1200M Zoroastrian Multi-Million in 1M-11.14s beating 2 good juveniles viz. Maisha and Shivalik Storm. This race which he won extremely well, got him a lavish amount of Rs.9,90,000 Then, (3) on 1/2/2014 He authoritatively won The 1400M Kunigal Stud Breeders’ Produce Stakes (Gr.3) which brought him a further rich amount of Rs.10,07,325. And the manner, in which he won this race, was akin to a Ferrari running and zooming past, a bunch of three-wheelers in the straight. But, subsequentlyBe Safe lost by a neck, as the on-money favorite in The 1400M Poonawalla Breeders’ Multi-Million (Gr.1). Thereafter, Be Safe has been rested and will surely make his presence very strongly felt, in the forthcoming 2014 Indian Classic races, especially The Indian 2000 Guineas (Gr.1). And if he wins this Classic race well, which he should, then he will surely be a live factor for The McDowell Indian Derby (Gr.1) in February, 2015. Pedigree wise, Be Safe from his Sire’s side, should easily get a mileand Be Safe from his Dam’s side, as given below, should get longer trips.
Be Safe is an exquisitely bred, bay colt, whose- Great ‘Sire’- Holy Roman Emperor (IRE) is by Danehll (USA) out of L’on Vite (USA) from the Northern Dancer line. His great Sire, had 4 very classy wins, 2 places with Career Earnings of $ 764, 838 which in 2006 included 1400M Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (Grand Criterium)-Gr.1 at Longchamp France, Phoenix Stakes, 6F-Gr.1 at Leopardstown, IRE, and 6F,Railway Stakes-Gr.2 at Curragh, IRE. His classy ‘Dam’ Oriental Lady is by Kings Best out of Otaiti (IRE). Although, his dam Oriental Lady did nothing much, ‘His’ classy ‘Grand dam’-Otaiti-IRE(Sadlers Wells- Ode) had Career Earnings of $ 73, 957 which included 2000M Prix De Liancourt (Listed), Longchamp, France, 2000M Grand Prix De Compiegne (Listed), France and came a good 2nd in 2700M Prix De Pomone (Gr.2), Deauville, France. Plus his Dam’s Tail-Line is a very strong one, as it goes down to the likes Of Ode, a reputed stayer, who had 4 classy wins in France, with Career Earnings of $ 861, 820.
My Final Analysis on Be Safe: The classy Champion colt Be Safe, should have been unbeaten in his 4 starts. But, he unfortunately lost his last race- The 1400M Poonawalla Breeders’ Multi-million (Gr.1). Be that as it may, Be Safe will be an extremely strong force to reckon with, in the forthcoming Indian 2000 Guineas (Gr.1).
Two other 3yo colts/ geldings- who should run well in The Indian 2000 Guineas and in The Indian Derby are given hereinafter. They are : –
SHIVALIK STORM (Dancing Forever- Badraan) Trainer: C. D. Katrak
He is the winner of 3 races (1200-1400M) and beaten - Be Safe in the PBMM (Gr.1). Be that as it may, Shivalik Storm should run well in The Indian 2000 Guineas but his chances of beating Be Safe in the classic race is bleak but he should get a place. Shivalik Storm’s ‘Sire’- Dancing Forever won 5 races 1 over 10F& 1 over 12F being a Gr.1 & Gr.2 race respectively in USA. And Shivalik Storm’s ‘Dam’- Badraan won 3 ordinary races but His ‘Grandam’ Gold Sunrise won Golden Rod Stakes, Gr.2, over 8.5F in USA. Hence, Shivalik Storm has an impeccable pedigree and he should run a good race in The 2000 Guineas & since, he is bred to stay distance trips, Shivalik Storm should be prominent in The Indian Derby.
QUASAR (Seeking The Dia- Belle Jour) Trainer: M. Narredu
He is an improving colt who very competently won The 1600M Shapoorji Pallonji Breeders’ Juvenile Colts’ Championship (Gr.3) on 16/3/2014 in a good time of 1-36.00s. Quasar has an impeccable pedigree as His ‘Sire’ Seeking The Dia is by Storm Cat out of Seeking The Pearl and He won 7 races, 9 places, 2 shows with C.E. of $ 5,044, 815 which included Nikhon TV Hai, 1800M, Gr.2, Japan & Urawa Kinen, 2000M, Gr.2, Japan. And although His ‘Dam’ Belle Jour did nothing much, but His Dam’s Tail-Line, is a very strong one, as it goes down to the likes of the Champion -Sky Beauty who had 15 wins, C.E. of $ 1,336,000 of 9 Gr.1 races, 2 Gr.2 races & 2 Gr.3 races of distances between (6F to 10F) in USA. Hence, the exquisitely bred Quasar should run well in The Indian 2000 Guineas and since he is bred to stay distance trips, watch out for Quasar in The Indian Derby.
