Some 3YO fillies who should be involved in the 2014 Classics
By Bob Sawhny
Mumbai:The 2013-14 Mumbai Meeting conspicuously perceived some highly classy and impeccably bred three-year-old fillies, likely to be very strong forces to be reckoned with, in the forthcoming Indian 1000 Guineas near about December 2014 in Mumbai.
In my opinion, some of the excellent & highly admirable three-year-olds, who should be forces to be reckoned with in- The 2014 Indian 1000 Guineas and The Indian Oaks are given below. It is certainly too early to deliberate- The McDowell Signature Indian Derby because of the 2014 Pune which may show some good long distance 3YO’s or there may be good 3Y0’S from other Racing Centers. Therefore, this article is presently only confined to some classy 3YO fillies who could be live factors in The 2014 Indian Classics viz. The Indian 1000 Guineas & somewhat-The Indian Oaks and my next article is regarding 3YO colts/geldings who merit thought for the Indian 2000 Guineas.
A couple of splendid and highly exquisitely bred 3YO-Fillies were seen in action during The 2013-14 Mumbai Meeting and I have chosen 5 fillies because of their classy style of winning / their impeccable pedigree and they should be in the reckoning for -The 2014 Indian 1000 Guineas /The Indian Oaks (1) Tiger Tops (Tiger Hill- Cockayne)
(2) Godspeed (Multidimensional-Almandine) (3) Honeymoon (Medicean- Choir Gallery) (4) Maisha (Footstepsinthesand- My Pension) (5) Polydences (Oratorio- Perfect Polly). Plus, there could be many more good fillies, which will be seen in action during- the 2014 Pune Season.
The above named 5 fillies are concisely deliberated hereunder, with their Racing Career Record, names of their Trainers, Pedigree which is a very important factor and My Final Overall Analysis, for each of the 5 Fillies:
TIGER TOPS (Tiger Hill-Cockayne) Trainer: Pesi Shroff
She is a very classy, attractive & highly impeccably bred bay filly who decisively won her maiden race on 19/12/2013 as a 2yo over 1400M beating the favorite-Top Commander. Then, her 2nd win was on 16/3/2014 in The 1600M Forbes Breeders’ Juvenile Fillies’ Championship (Gr.3) which she stylishly won in a good time of 1-36.02s. Tiger Tops adequately revealed that she will win many more races and mature in to an extremely good 3yo Miler who will get longer trips, as she is bred to stay, but presently, Tiger Tops appears to be a very strong contender for the forthcoming- 2014 Indian 1000 Guineas.
Pondering over her highly exquisite pedigree, ‘Her Sire’ Tiger Hill from 17 starts had 10 classy wins, 3 places with a superb Career Earning of Euros 1,087,995. His wins included Bavarian Classic (Gr.2), 2000M, Munich-Germany, Grosser Mueller Brot Preis (Gr.2), 2000M, Munich-Germany, 2000 Guineas (Gr.2) Koln-Germany, Grossen Preis Von Baden, 2400M (Gr.1), Baden Baden-Germany, Gerling Preis (Gr.2), 2400M, Koln-Germany, Bayerisches Zuchtrennen (Gr.1), 2000M, Munich-Germany and came 2nd in Grand Prix De-Saint-Cloud (Gr.1)-France. And ‘Her Dam’ Cockayne won 4 good races had 4 places, 7 shows, Career Earnings of Euros 95, 881 which included Premio Andreo -2200M, Pisa (Italy) Listed and came 2nd in Premio Buontalenta -2000M Gr.3 (Italy). Plus, Her Dam’s Tail-Line is a strong one as it goes down to the likes of- Mountain Lodge who had 5wins, 4 places with a Career Earnings of $ 142, 447 in GB/IRE including The Irish St. Leger (Gr.1),
My Final Analysis: Tiger Tops who commands respect on her highly exquisite pedigree alone, is bred to stay distance trips, is sparingly raced and unbeaten in her 2 starts. Tiger Tops, in my opinion, presently has the best credentials among all the 3yo fillies and appears to a very strong contender for The 2014 Indian 1000 Guineas and since she is extremely well-bred to stay, as given above, Tiger Tops can get distance trips and should mature into an excellent Oaks filly.
GODSPEED (Multidimensional- Almandine) Trainer: M. Narredu
She is a very attractive, impeccably bred and extremely sparingly raced filly who started racing late and very stylishly won her maiden race on 6/4/2014-The 1400M Karl Umrigar Trophy. Godspeed who won at 10 to 1, literally trounced her Nine rivals and made every post a winning one, showing sheer speed to the wire, in a terrific manner on debut. Godspeed eventually won by a widening 3-3/4L, in a smart time of 1-25.50s and could have won by a much wider margin, if she were to have been extended in the straight.
Godspeed is highly exquisitely bred and her great ‘Sire’ Multidimensional (Danehill- Sacred Song) won 5 races at 3 to 5 (1800m) incl. Prix Guillaume d’Ornano-Haras D’Etreham (Gr.2), Rose of Lancaster Stakes (Gr.3)&placed incl.2nd in Hardwicke Stakes (Gr.2). Plus, Multidimensional is doing stupendously on The Indian Turf. Her ‘Dam’ Almandine (Razeen- Almaden) won 1 good race, Rs.5,25,979 inc. 3rd in Gen Rajendrasinhji Trophy (Gr.3), 4th in S. A. Poonawalla Million (Gr.2). Her ‘Grandam’ Almaden (Steinbeck- Roccobarocco) won 1 race& was dam of 6 winners: Inspiring Trust, 2 wins, Rs.15,85,905. Razmaden, 3 wins, Rs.16,48,501 and placed 2nd in Calcutta St. Leger (Gr.3).Almadine above. Purple Blaze3 wins, Rs.4,85,675. Flying Phoenix, 2 wins, Rs.6,91,050. Proof of Treasure, 1 win, Rs.3,09,125 and placed. Plus Her Dam’s Tail-Line is a very strong one, as it goes down to the likes of Roccobarocco whowon 2 races, Rs.2,78,691 incl. Jockeys Cup and placed 2nd in Indian 1000 Guineas (Gr.1), Indian Oaks (Gr.1), etc: dam of 8 classy winners And also her dam’s tail-line goes down to the likes of the great Choreography who won 3 good races and was the dam of 5 classy winners which included Ace of Diamonds, 7 wins including Nilgiris Fillies Trial Stakes (Gr.2). Therefore, the pedigree of Godspeed is extremely good and shows that she can get distance trips.
My Final Analysis: The highly impeccably bred &very sparingly raced filly- Godspeed has won only 1 race over 1400M but she emerged victorious in a stupendous manner which revealed that she is an extremely classy filly, who will win many more races and mature into a classic filly. Presently, she appears to be a live contender for the 2014 Indian 1000 Guineas and as she is bred to stay distance trips, Godspeed will also be a force to reckon with, in- The 2014 Indian Oaks.
HONEYMOON (Medicean-Choir Gallery) Trainer: Pesi Shroff
She is a superbly looking, very well-bred, got abroad and sparingly raced filly whose highly sensational maiden win was on 16/3/2014 in-The 1000M J. Rustomji Soparivala Trophy. She lay 6th till the 800M, then was 5th till turn, improved with a flourish to easily get the measure of the leader, Sweet As Honey and win very stylishly showing that she would run much better over a slightly longer trip.
Her ‘Sire’ Medicean (Machiavellian- Mystic Goddess) is from the legendary Northern Dancer line and from 12 starts had 6 wins, 4 shows with a very lavish Career Earningof 547, 055 Pounds including (1) The Lockinge Stakes, 8F, Gr.1, Newbury, GB, (2) Queen Anne Stakes, 8F, Gr2, Ascot, GB, (3) Eclipse Stakes, 10F, Gr.1, Sandown Park, GB, (4) Celebration Mile, 8F, Gr.2, Goodwood, GB. Her ‘Dam’ Choir Gallery (Pivotal- Choir Mistress) did nothing much but her Dam’s Tail-Line is a fairly strong one as it goes down to the likes of Blessed Event who won The Ballymacoll Stud Stakes, 10F (Listed), Newbury, GB &came 2nd on 4 occasions (1) Pretty Polly Stakes, 10F, Gr.1, at the Curragh,IRE (2) Yorkshire Oaks, 12F, Gr.1, GB, (3) Ribbledale Stakes, 12F, Gr.2, Ascot, GB (4) Fred Darling Stakes, 7.5F, Gr.3, Newbury, GB. Hence, Honeymoon is superbly bred from Her Sire’s side and adeptly bred from Her Dam’s side which should ensure that she matures into a very good filly with a classic touch.
My Final Analysis: The impeccably bred Honeymoon is set to go places and win many more races as she matures. In my opinion, presently- Honeymoon appears to be a live factor in the forthcoming 1000 Guineas and her performances during Pune 2014 will give a good idea of her chances over longer trips of The Oaks.
MAISHA (Footstepsinthesand -My Pension) Trainer: Pesi Shroff
She is a very attractive and well-conformed filly, who has had 4 runs and has won twice very well (1) won on 24/11/2013 (Mumbai) over 1000M, being her Maiden Win and then (2) finished a very close 2nd, in her next outing to the classy colt- Be Safe on 29/12/2013 also in Mumbai in The 1200M Zoroastrian Multi-Million, possibly because, she had a very bad outer Draw 13. Then, (3)Maisha ran-18/1/2014 The 1200M Gool S. Poonawalla Million (Gr.3) but unluckily finished on very strongly, despite getting badly hampered in the race and came an excellent close 2nd to the superb 3yo gelding- Shivalik Storm & (4) Maisha last superb win was in Hyderabad on 1/3/2014 where she easily won The Deccan Bookmakers Juvenile Million, a 3yo Terms race by a widening 3-1/2L.
She has a brilliant pedigree. Her ‘Sire’ Footstepsinthesand had 3 starts, 3 wins, Career Earnings of a lavish 226,451 Pounds. Hiswinswerein 2004 Killavullan Stakes-7f (Gr.3) at Leopardstown, Ireland and in 2005, He also won the 2000 Guineas Stakes (Gr.1) at Newmarket, G.B. And although Her ‘Dam’ My Pension did not win, Her ‘Grandam’ Fly Me had 3 wins, 5 places, 1 shows which incl. Two-Gr.2 races & 2 Gr.3 races in France plus she ran 2nd in the 1984 Grand Prix De Saint-Cloud (Gr.1) and had a very good Career Earnings of 114,000 Francs.
My Final Analysis: The highly exquisitely bred-Maisha, who has won 2 races surely commands a lot of respect on her brilliant pedigree and her last brilliant win on 1/3/2014 in which she effortlessly won The Deccan Bookmakers Juvenile Million at Hyderabad. Plus, her excellent pedigree will see Maisha mature into the reckoning for The 2014 Indian 1000 Guineas.
POLYDENCES (Oratorio-Perfect Polly) Trainer: Mansoor Shah
She is extremely expensive got abroad exquisitely bred sparingly raced filly who has run only twice. On 6/3/2014 she was at 50/1 and finished 5th & won her maiden race among 3yom on 30/3/2014 over 1200M by a widening 23/4L in a good time of 1-10.58s which could have much faster, if she were to have been extended in the race. In the race, Polydences sprinted ahead and streaked away from her rivals in a highly commendable manner and showed that she could easily have gone another 400M. Plus, her terrific style of winning revealed that she will win many more races as she matures.
Her ‘Sire’ Oratorio (Danehill- Mahrah) is from the legendary Native Dancer line and Oratorio from 15 starts, had 6 wins, 3 places, 1 show with a C.E. of $ 1,913, 814 which included winning 5 Graded races viz. (1) The Grand Criterium, Prix Jean-Luk Lagardere- 14M, Longchamp, Gr.1,FR (2) The Futurity Stakes, 7F, Gr.2, Curragh, IRE (3) The Anglesey Stakes, 7F, Gr.3, Curragh, IRE (4) The Irish Champion Stakes, 10F, Gr.1, Leardstown, IRE (5) The Eclipse Stakes, 10F, Gr.1, Sandown Park, GB. Her ‘Dam’ Perfect Polly (Efisio – Nashira) had 4 wins, 2 pl& C.E. of 105,464 Euros which included The Cecil Frail Stakes, 6F, Listed, Haydock, GB, Abergwaun Stakes, 5F, Listed, Tipperary,IRE.
My Final Analysis: Polydences whose sensational style of winning a 1200M race on 30/3/2014 showed that she will win many more races as she matures between distances of 1400M to 1600M. Plus, she could stay longer distances as per her ‘Sire’s side Oratorio as given above. But, in my opinion, at present Polydences, should be a live factor in The Indian 1000 Guineas, giving Polydences ample time to mature well.
