Dr.Cyrus Poonawalla, who earned international fame as a racehorse owner when his two horses, David Livingston and Gordon Lord Byron, won him accolades in Ireland and UK recently, is in the news again after he upstaged several international bidders at an auction for a three-year-old filly in France on Saturday night.
Poonawalla, who was in France to witness the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at the Longchamp racecourse in Paris, bought a filly named Kenhope at a weekend auction for nearly Rs 7.5 crore (nine lakh euros) after some stiff bidding. Poonawalla said that he paid this princely sum only because of his conviction that Kenhope is an exciting prospect.
Kenhope stays with her French trainer Henri-Alex Pantall for now and will probably fly to Dubai next summer to take part in the annual racing carnival at the Meydan racecourse. Kenhope is likely to return to India to stand as a broodmare at the famed Poonawalla Stud Farms after her racing career is over. Until then, here’s to more horsepower.
