Duel at the Downs
By Mohit Lalvani
The best racing of the Glorious Goodwood week is traditionally on the Wednesday and this evening's group one Sussex Stakes is the highlight of the meet.
The 2013 revival of the Sussex Stakes is being billed as duel between the 2000 Guineas Winner, Dawn Approach and Richard Hughes' mount, Toronado. In what was a thrilling finish at Royal Ascot this year, Dawn Approach bounced back from a dismal Derby performance to peg back Toronado in the St. James' Palace Stakes.
Aidan O' Brien's Declaration of War is another who will take his place in the line-up and who has a chance. He looked impressive when winning The Queen Anne on the opening day of Royal Ascot this year and has the credentials to match strides with the best.
At the end of the day, I'll be on Dawn Approach and will look to recover the few quid I lost on Supplicant yesterday. He seemed to the best moving inside the last furlong and with nowhere to go, could not get out in time.
