Racing with charity is RWITC’s motto

TOI

THAT THE RWITC has made a special mark in the promotion of racing in India is by now well documented, and almost come to be expected by the fraternity. However, the Club now steps out of its comfort zone on a larger scale and takes its place also as a leader in promoting social causes and events focused on heritage and culture, making our venue inclusive and important for the city of Mumbai.

From the path breaking first time Worli Festival in January, to supporting the live concert by the multiple Grammy Award winning Norah Jones last Sunday, saw the Club enhance its CSR footprint with a vengeance. The Worli Festival showcased the iconic status of the heritage precincts of the race course with a host of dignitaries and celebrities present to laud this innovative effort at RWITC. The Norah Jones event was organised by the Women’s Breast Cancer NGO and the Tata Memorial Hospital and was an outstanding event in aid of a very noble cause.

And to top it off, at the end of this troika comes The Sahachari Foundation supported Design One exhibition, a shopping extravaganza that brings the women of the city in hordes who jostle for a good part of the day to shop around with the ultimate beneficiary being a range of NGOs. And in deference to the heat, and to the ladies moods, we have also offered our air conditioned tent as the icing on the hot day!

The high profile visitors get to witness a race day and the members get a rare chance to visit this hugely popular exhibit at their doorstep! And in yet another gesture, the club will hand over a donation to the Bombay Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, an NGO that Sahachri supports.

And in a rare amalgam of sport, charity and the exhibition, we run the Sahachari Foundation Trophy, where the distinguished Committee ladies will join the RWITC in the paddock presentation.

And the buck probably does not stop here. Talks are on to host the first ever Colour Run in India at Mahalaxmi on Holi Day, where more than 5,000 are expected to run for charity- a fun event held in carnival atmosphere. We are here to show if we can host the best quality racing in India, and we can also more than hold our own in having the RWITC make a material difference to the city of Mumbai.
