B. K. Rattonsey Memorial Maiden Multi-Million Will Be A Grand Race

By Bob Sawhny

Mumbai: 11 exquisitely bred maiden three-year olds will compete in the 1200Metres B. K. Rattonsey Memorial Maiden Multi-Million. All the colts and geldings will run at level weights of 56 Kg, with the fillies getting a gender allowance of 1-1/2 Kg and will carry 54-1/2 Kg.

The 11 maiden three-year olds accepted to have run are Blue Bay (B. Colt), Bombardier (Ch. G), Cactus Cash (B. G), Isadoro (DK. B. Colt), Little Love (B.G), Presidential (B. Colt), Silver Streak (Grey G), Tahrir (B.G), Indian Touch (CH.F), Stilletto (B.F) and Trance (DK.B. F). Total Stakes are Rs. 20,30,000 and the winner will get a very lavish amount of Rs. 12,18,000. In my opinion, the winner will emanate from the quartet concisely deliberated below:

Isadoro (Glory of Dancer- Flying Home) Trainer: S.S. Shah

This very good looking Dark Bay son of the late Glory of Dancer has been very methodically prepared for this race by his veteran trainer. His excellent winding up spurt on the outer sand on 27/1/ 2013 over 1000M was (1min-4sec) -11 & 600M was 38 sec -7.
Furthermore, his Mock Race over 1200M on 21/1/2013 was a very good one and he easily clocked (1 min-13sec) -17 & 600M in 38sec -7.

Browsing over his pedigree, His Sire the late champion stallion ‘Glory of Dancer’ by Shareef Dancer out of Glory of Herawas a champion 2YO Colt in Italy who won 3 races at 2 and 3 (1200m to 2000+m) incl. Gran Criterium (Gr.1) and Homeowners Dante Stakes (Gr.2). In India, he sired several classy thoroughbreds and 2 McDowell Indian Derby winners (Gr.1) namely Hotstepper and Antonios in 2008 and 2009 respectively.

His Dam ‘Flying Home’ who won 4 races in India was by the very classy Topanoora (IRE) out of Supercube (USA).It will be well worth noting that Topanoora had 7 wins which included the 1991 Blandford Stakes (Gr.2) over 12 F and had a career earning of $ 314,793. Plus, Supercube who placed twice was the dam of 5 good winners:
Musical Look, 10 wins including Darley Arabian Stakes, Gr.2 & S.N.R.M.Cup, etc.
Pam, 8 wins including Hargobind Stud Cup and Atlantic Warrior Cup.
Superbo, 5 wins including Indian Air Force Trophy and placed.
Good Intention, 1win and placed & Flying Home above.

Hence, the well prepared and impeccably bred Isadoro is a strong contender.

Presidential (Multidimensional –Deserving Lady) Trainer: Bezan Chenoy

He is a sturdy and attractive looking colt who is exquisitely bred and has been shining in his preparatory work. His winding up spurt on the inner sand track was a good one on 30th January 2013 as he easily stopped the clock at One Minute .6 seconds over 1000M (-9), 800M in 51 seconds (-9) and 600M in 38 seconds (-7).  Moreover, he has gone 8 good work-outs in January 2013 viz. on 3/1/13, 7/1/13, 13/1/13, 16/1/13, 17/1/13, 25/1/13, 28/1/13 and he excelled in his winding up spurt on 30/1/13which show that he is raring to go.

His Sire ‘Multidimensional’ is by Danehill out of Sacred Song from the great Danzig and the legendary Northern Dancer line. Multidimensional (IRE), won 5 races at 3 to 5 (1800m), $ 374,551 including Prix Guillaume d’Ornano Haras d’Etreham , (Gr.2). His classy Dam ‘Deserving Lady’ who was by Razeenout of Florescence placed but her grand dam Florescence was a Class I mare in Western India who won 5 races including .Jasdanwalla Cup and Bright Hanovar Trophy, etc; dam of 5 winners:
Regal Equity, 9 wins, including McDowell Bangalore 2000 Guineas, Gr.2.
Prevalence, 8 wins including Mount Shivalik North India Derby, Gr.3.
Flaming Ace 4 wins including S.A. Poonawalla Million, Gr.2.
Ave Maria, 7 wins and Michellisa 5 wins including Jasdanwalla Trophy.

So, the well prepared and impeccably bred Presidential merits consideration.

Stiletto (Declaration of War – Crystal Slipper) Trainer: Sanjay Kolse

She was extremely unlucky, not to win her last race viz. the 1000M Yawar Rashid Trophy on 6th January 2013, in the ongoing Mumbai season, which she lost by a whisker to Saturday Affair. In the race, she lay 4th till the turn, came through the shortest way and flew towards the winner Saturday Affair, but failed to topple the latter, by the bob of a nose. Stiletto’s impressive run showed that she would soon get out of the maiden ranks, especially when she runs a slightly longer trip (1200 to 1400m).

Her ‘Sire’ Declaration of War (IRE) won 2 races at 2 (6 furlongs) including Vodafone Woodcote Stakes L and placed 2nd in Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere Grand Criterium, (Gr.1). Weatherbys Superlative Stakes, (GR.2). Her ‘Dam’ Crystal Slipper did not race but her Grand Dam Tracy Lou (USA) won 1 race & was the dam of 3 winners viz. Appealing Tracy, 10 wins$ 134,495 and placed. Other winners: Blue Chip Fund (in USA) and North American (I each).

Stiletto lacks initial speed but if she keeps up with the initial pace, she may upset.

Trance (Phoenix Tower- Gobelin) Trainer: Imtiaz Sait

This very well bred filly, was unlucky to lose her race last time out, on 23rd December 2012 viz. the 1200M Allah Rakhkha Gold Trophy by a mere 3/4 of a length to Rekindle. Nonetheless, she could make amends now as she is very fit and well prepared by her trainer Imtiaz Sait.

Her ‘Sire’ Phoenix Tower (USA) won 4 races at 2 to 4 including Earl of Sefton Stakes, Gr.3 and placed 2nd in Juddmonte International, Gr.1, Coral Eclipse Stakes, Gr.1, Prince of Wale’s Stakes, Gr.1, Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes, Gr.1, etc. Plus, her classy dam, Gobelin  is by Senure out of Goblet of Fire and the her dam’s tail line, is a very strong one, as it goes down to the likes of the Aga Khan’s Sharmeen, winner of one good race  at 3 years in France.. Moreover, Sharmeen was the dam of Shergar, winner of three Gr.1 races and of Shernazar winner of One Gr.2 race & Two Gr.3 races.

Therefore, the fit & classically bred Trance will be the one, who all will have to beat.
