Worli Fest ends on high note

Mumbai: The three-day Worli Festival 2013,organized by Shree Sankalp Pratishthan in association with The Times of India,ended on a high note on Sunday. Livewire singer Sukhwinder Singh was the perfect choice for the grand finale at Worli Seaface.A talented Spanish orchestra joined him and co-artiste Jasleen Matharu in a boisterous medley of Jai ho!,Chak de! India and his latest hit Matru ki Bijlee ka Mandola.

 
Sukhwinder devised a Mexican theme as a backdrop with no less than 60 dancers on stage. It is a privilege to do a concert in Mumbai, which is my own city. We mostly do shows abroad or in other cities, he said.
 
At the Turf Club,a parallel venue,musician Rahul Sharma was the highlight,playing a set of Kashmiri melodies on his 100-stringed santoor. The artiste and his instrument are both native to that state. It is nice to celebrate Worli,one of our most scenic locations. I look forward to more such events in Mumbai, he said.
 
The aroma of Lebanese food rose nearby as chef Jihad prepared delicacies.Reputed restaurants hosted a food fest. Singer Roopkumar Rathod received the Worli Bhushan award from Sachin Ahir,minister of state for housing. Actors Juhi Chawla,Bipasha Basu and Dino Morea attended the festival.People enjoyed live performances by Rajiv Thakur,Chin2 Bhosle,Vaishali Samant and Meena Naik.
 
Aday before,Republic Day was infused with colour by flautist Milind Date,guitarist Silman Marak and V Ravi.Comedian Raju Shrivastava and ventriloquist-puppeteer Satyajit Padhye had the audience in splits. Saturdays highlight,of course,was the Cook For Her contest anchored by chef Vicky Rattnani and Amrita Raichand.Police chief Satya Pal Singh,municipal commissioner Sitaram Kunte,Suniel Shetty,Sachin Ahir,Dilip Vengsarkar and Amish Tripathi cooked food for their wives.
