RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “BEZALEL” (DRAWN 8) IN RACE NO.42 – THE SYNTHESIS TROPHY DIV.II (DIST. 1400 MTRS.) RUN ON 21ST DECEMBER 2025:

In connection with the captioned subject matter, the Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on 4th January 2026, having heard the submissions made by Jockey A. Sandesh, his spokesman Mr. Dallas Todywalla and Trainer P. S. Chouhan, as also the Stipendiary Stewards, having viewed the video recording of the race in question, the previous start of the gelding, as also its mock race during the current Mumbai Season. Further Stewards on a request from Jockey A. Sandesh his spokesperson also viewed his ride on BAYCHIMO in race no.40 (The Indian 2000 Guineas Gr.1) run on the same day and having deliberated the matter at length, the Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey A. Sandesh. In that, his assertion that the gelding was hanging out from the top of the straight had no bearing, particularly as the horse straightened out immediately once he took remedial action and this had no material impact on his ability to ride the gelding out to complete advantage. Consequently, found his overall riding efforts to be wanting, particularly in the final stages of the race. Given his experience and riding caliber, the Stewards were of the view that he ought to have ridden in a more vigorous manner.

However, the Stewards gave him benefit of doubt for the charge “failing to permit his mount to run on its merit” and held Jockey A. Sandesh guilty of “unsatisfactory riding” on his mount BEZALEL in the above race and decided to suspend his Jockey’s licence for twelve race days i.e. w.e.f. 21st January to 29th March 2026 (both days inclusive) (permitted to ride work/mock race) and fined him a sum of Rs.1,00,000/-.
