MUMBAI MEETING 2024/25, SPECIAL RACE DAY, SUNDAY, 9TH, FEBRUARY, 2025.

 

(PENETROMETER: 4 (LONGCHAMP METHOD); GOING: GOOD)

 

RACE DAY REPORTS

 

RAILS WERE PLACED 1 METRE AT 1400 METRES (MILE CHUTE) LEADING TO 2 METRES AWAY AT 1200 METRES. 4 METRES AWAY AT 1000 METRES, 5 METRES AT 800 AND 6 METRES AWAY UP TO THE WINNING POST.

 

FOR THE RACES STARTING FROM THE BACK STRETCH RAILS WERE PLACED FROM ITS ORIGINAL POINT FROM 1400 METRES LEADING TO 2 METRES AWAY AT 1200 METRES  AND 4 METRES AWAY AT 1000 METRES.

 

On a request from Trainer P. S. Chouhan, permission was granted to Trainer Himmat Singh to saddle his charge THE ATHABASCA in the 4th race, at his own (Trainer P. S. Chouhan’s) risk and responsibility.

 

RACE NO.1 (103) – THE NAWABZADA RASHIDUZZAFAR KHAN TROPHY: (ABOUT) 1600 METRES – RUNNERS - 9

  

At the start, SUBSTANTIAL (A. Sandesh, dr.2) jumped outwards at the same time BEYOND STARS (Neeraj Rawal, dr.4) jumped inwards thereby tightening and inconveniencing LAND OF PLENTY (App. Mustakim Alam, dr.3) drawn between them who had to be steadied. Thereafter WILD CHILD (N. S. Parmar, dr.1) leaned outwards thereby tightening SUBSTANTIAL, who had to be steadied.

 

At the start, EATON SQUARE (S. J. Sunil, dr.8) lost a length, jumped outwards and had to be steadied.

 

Passing the 400 metres, BALTHAZAR (Bhawani Singh) leaned outwards thereby carrying EATON SQUARE (S. J. Sunil) outwards. After the race, Jockey Bhawani Singh reported that his mount was inclined outwards in the straight, despite his efforts .Trainer Karthik Ganapathy has been asked to take remedial measures, before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, Jockey R. Ajinkya (MIGHTY SPARROW) reported that his mount hung-in in the straight, despite his efforts. Trainer P. Shroff has been asked to take remedial measures, before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, BALTHAZAR & MIGHTY SPARROW were trotted and found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.2 (104) – THE MULRAJ GOCULDAS TROPHY: (ABOUT) 1400 METRES – RUNNERS - 4

 

Approaching the 700 metres, SON OF A GUN (App. Mustakim Alam) leaned outwards at the same time IT’S MY TIME (A. Sandesh) leaned inwards due to which CHRISTOPHANY (Neeraj Rawal) racing on its haunches of the former was held up for room and had to be checked. After questioning and not being satisfied, Jockey Mustakim Alm has been fined Rs.5,000/-.

 

After the race, IT’S MY TIME & CHRISTOPHANY were trotted and found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.3 (105) – THE SONNY BRAR TROPHY: (ABOUT) 2000 METRES – RUNNERS - 6

 

GORDON (R. Ajinkya, dr.2) was reluctant to be stalled. Trainer P. Shroff has been asked to give his charge more gate practice and show the gelding to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to Race.

 

At the start, KIMIKO (A. Sandesh, dr.6) veered outwards and had to be steadied.

 

During the race the bit used on ALEXANDROS (Neeraj Rawal) was observed to have broken, as such the rider could not ride out his mount to complete advantage. After the race, the said equipment was checked and Trainer P. Shroff has been fined Rs.1,000/- for using faulty equipment.

 

The Equine Hospital reported that ALEXANDROS had right eye injury (sore) with ulcer.

 

RACE NO.4 (106) – THE NADIR & YAWAR RASHID TROPHY: (ABOUT) 1400 METRES – RUNNERS - 8

 

A the start, LORD AND MASTER (Amyn Merchant, dr.4) jumped inwards, brushed the haunches of CELESTIAL (Vivek G., dr.3) thereafter  lost its footing momentarily and stumbled.

 

Soon after the start, AXLROD (T. S. Jodha) leaned outwards at the same time BASHIR (A. Sandesh) leaned inwards thereby making contact and inconveniencing STAR ROMANCE (S. G. Prasad) racing between them, who had to be steadied. Jockeys T. S. Jodha and A. Sandesh have been cautioned.

 

Approaching the 1200 metres, BELIEVE (Bhawani Singh) leaned outwards thereby carrying BASHIR (A. Sandesh) outwards. Jockey Bhawani Singh has been cautioned.

 

Jockey T. S. Jodha (AXLROD) was observed to have used the whip in excess of the prescribed limit on his mount. This being his 2nd offence during the current Mumbai Meeting 2024/25, he has been fined Rs.5,000/-.

 

After the race, Jockey Amyn Merchant (LORD AND MASTER) reported that his mount hung-in in the straight, despite his efforts. Trainer Shazaan Shah has been asked to take remedial measures, before next accepting to race

RACE NO.5 (107) – THE R. M. & RUKMANI GOCULDAS MILLION: (ABOUT) 1000 METRES – RUNNERS - 9

 

On arrival at the starting gate, at the request of Jockey Shrikant Kamble, HILMA KLINT was examined by the Club’s Sr. V.O., who certified her fit to race.

 

After being stalled, NORTHERN SINGER (App. N. Bhosale, dr.9) stood in an awkward position thereby not allowing its rider to mount. Trainer Narendra Lagad has been asked to give his charge more gate practice and show the mare to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to Race.

 

FIDATO (App. Ramswarup, dr.7) lost about two lengths at the start.

 

It was observed that FIDATO (App. Ramswarup) jumped out with the monty robert blanket which came off soon after the start. The Stipendiary Stewards are looking into the same.

 

After the race, App. Ramswarup (FIDATO) weighed in 1.5 Kg. over the weight on which he had weighed out i.e. 48 Kg. The Stipendiary Stewards are looking into the same and a report will be submitted shortly.

 

After the race, DIVINE INTUITION was examined by the Club’s Sr. V.O. and was found to be sore by right fore. The gelding has to be passed fit by Club’s V.O., before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, HILMA KLINT was examined by the Club’s Sr. V.O. and was found to be sore by right fore. The mare has to be passed fit by Club’s V.O., before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, NORTHERN SINGER & MAYSARA were trotted and found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.6 (108) – THE N. M. IRANI TROPHY: (ABOUT) 1400 METRES – RUNNERS - 10

 

Soon after the start, AEON FLUX (Amyn Merchant) leaned inwards at the same time PHANTASMIQUE (Neeraj Rawal) leaned outwards thereby tightening MIRACLE OF HANUKAH (App. Mustakim Alam) racing between them, who had to be steadied, thereafter PHANTASMIQUE leaned outwards once again and went across MIRACLE OF HANUKAH, who had to be checked. After questioning all concerned, Jockeys Amyn Merchant and Neeraj Rawal have been cautioned.

 

App. Mustakim Alam (MIRACLE OF HANUKAH) was observed to have used the whip in excess of the prescribed limit on his mount. This being his 2nd offence during the current Mumbai Meeting 2024/25, he has been fined Rs.5,000/-.

 

After the race, Jockey Vivek G. (SUPERSTAR) reported that his mount was inclined outwards under pressure in the straight. Trainer P. Shroff has been asked to take remedial measures, before next accepting to race. 

 

After the race, JACKSON & SUPERSTAR were trotted and found to be sound.

 

After the race, RUNNING AWAY was observed to have an injury at both hind pastern.

 

RACE NO.7 (109) – THE GENTLEMEN'S GROOMERS TROPHY: (ABOUT) 1200 METRES – RUNNERS - 13

 

WE STILL BELIEVE (Bhawani Singh, dr.9) lost about three lengths at the start. Trainer S. Waheed has been asked to give his charge more gate practice and show the gelding to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

 

ANAIRA (Shrikant Kamble, dr.3) lost about three lengths at the start. Trainer Nirad Karanjawala has been asked to give his charge more gate practice and show the mare to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

 

THE SENGOL QUEEN (App. S. Siddharth, dr.13) reared up in the stall and dislodged its rider as the start was affected. Trainer Sangramsinh N. Joshi has been asked to give his charge more gate practice and show the filly to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

 

Approaching the 600 metres, WE STILL BELIEVE (Bhawani Singh) shifted in onto LION KING (Amyn Merchant) causing the latter to jostle with DAGGER’S STRIKE on more than one occasion causing both horses to be steadied. After questioning not being satisfied, Jockey Bhawani Singh has been fined Rs.3,000/-.

 

After the race, DAGGER’S STRIKE was examined by the Club’s Sr. V.O. and was found to be sore by left fore. The gelding has to be passed fit by Club’s V.O., before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, LION KING & THE SENGOL QUEEN were observed to have a gum injury.

The urine samples of the winner of the 3rd, 4th & 7th race, viz. KIMIKO, BASHIR & APPLAUSE and the special samples of SUPERSTAR (6th race), were collected for detection of prohibited substances.

 

The urine and blood samples of the MALET SPRING (5th race), was collected for detection of prohibited substances.

RE: RACE NO.89 – THE WEIZHOU TROPHY (DIV.I): RUN ON 1ST FEBRUARY 2025:

 

GIMME (App. Bharat Singh, dr.7) sat down in the stall after all the horses were loaded, which delayed the start. Trainer S. S. Shah has been asked to give his charge more gate practice and show the gelding to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to Race.

RE: RACE NO.93 – THE ENIGMA TROPHY (DIV.II): RUN ON 1ST FEBRUARY 2025:

 

STORM CLOUD (K. G. Likith Appu, dr.1) was reluctant to be stalled. Trainer Narendra Lagad has been asked to give his charge more gate practice and show the colt to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to Race.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF "TALKING POINT" (DRAWN 1) RUN IN RACE NO. 86 THE FOREST FLAIR TROPHY DIST. 1000 MTRS ON 1ST FEBRUARY 2025:

 

In connection with the above subject, the Stipendiary Stewards at their meeting held on 7th February 2025, having heard Jockey S. G. Prasad, Trainer Sangramsinh Joshi and having viewed the video recording of the race in question as also race no.91 run during the Pune Meeting 2024, the Stipendiary Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey S. G. Prasad and held him guilty of riding an indifferent/ injudicious race. In that, in the last 250 metres he had only given a couple of soft backhanders despite the gelding's response, and his efforts in the straight were deemed inadequate and inconsistent with his known riding style thereby, failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing in the race. Therefore, the Stipendiary Stewards decided to suspend his Jockey's licence for two Race Days i.e. on 26th February and 6th March 2025 (permitted to ride work/mock race).

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE IMPROVED PERFORMANCE OF “LITTLE MINISTER” (DRAWN 4) IN RACE NO.85 – THE A. GEDDIS PLATE (DIST.1400 MTRS.) RUN ON THURSDAY, 23RD JANUARY 2025 AS COMPARED TO ITS PREVIOUS RUN IN RACE NO.73 RUN ON THURSDAY, 16TH JANUARY 2025:

 

In connection with the above subject, the Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on 9th February 2025, having heard Trainer Faisal A. Abbas, having viewed the video recording of the race in question and the previous race of the gelding, the Stewards of the Club were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by him and held him guilty of contravening the Calendar Notification regarding improved performance of a horse in a short span of time. Therefore, it was decided to fine him a sum of Rs.10,000/- and warned him to be more careful in the future.
