MUMBAI MEETING 2024/25, TENTH DAY, THURSDAY, 23RD, JANUARY, 2025.

RACE DAY REPORTS

 

RAILS WERE PLACED 2 METRES AWAY FROM 1400 METRES (MILE CHUTE) LEADING TO 5 METRES AWAY AT 1200 METRES, 7 METRES AWAY AT 1000 METRES, 9 METRES AWAY AT 800 METRES AND THEREAFTER 12 METRES AWAY AP TO THE WINNING POST.

 

FOR THE RACES STARTING FROM THE BACK STRETCH RAILS WERE PLACED FROM ITS ORIGINAL POINT FROM 1400 METRES LEADING TO 5 METRES AWAY AT 1200 METRES AND 7 METRES AWAY AT 1000 METRES

 

On a request from Trainer S. Padmanabhan, permission was granted to Trainer Subhag Singh to saddle his charge SPLENDIDO in the 4th race, at his own (Trainer S. Padmanabhan’s) risk and responsibility.

 

RACE NO.1 (79) – THE PRADEEP VIJAYAKAR PLATE: (ABOUT) 1800 METRES – RUNNERS - 9

 

On arrival at the starting gate FLOYD (T. S. Jodha) was observed to have a gum injury. The gelding was examined by the Club’s Sr. V.O., who certified him fit to race.

 

GOODFELLOW (K. Nazil, dr.9) planted and lost considerable ground at the start. Trainer Hosidar Daji has been asked to give his charge more gate practice and show the gelding to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials before next accepting to race.

 

KIMIKO (A. Sandesh, dr.8) jumped outwards and had to be steadied.

 

Approaching the 800 metres, NOSTALGIA (Neeraj Rawal) shifted in thereby tightening OH KAY (Amyn Merchant) racing along the rails who had to check and change course thereby bumping and carrying KIMIKO (A. Sandesh) outwards. After questioning and not being satisfied, Jockey Neeraj Rawal has been fined Rs.5,000/-.

 

After the race, Jockey Neeraj Rawal (NOSTALGIA) reported that passing the 400 metres he was held up for room until passing the 200 metres.

 

Jockey T. S. Jodha (FLOYD) was observed to have used the whip in excess of the prescribed limit on his mount. This being his first offence during the current Mumbai Meeting 2024/25, he has been fined Rs.3,000/-.

 

After the race, FLOYD & ATATURK were trotted and found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.2 (80) – THE MATHRADAS GOCULDAS TROPHY: (ABOUT) 1200 METRES – RUNNERS - 3

 

After the race, BABY BAZOOKA was trotted and found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.3 (81) – THE ROYAL BARBERSHOP TROPHY  - DIVISION II: (ABOUT) 1200 METRES – RUNNERS – 7

 

PRINCE IGOR was not declared to start after accepting with the gelding due to late realization of medication that had been logged. Trainer Narendra Lagad has been fined Rs.5,000/- for his lapse and the gelding was subjected to sampling.

 

At the request of Trainer Aman Altaf Hussain, ARIYANA STAR was examined by the Club’s Sr. V.O. at 11:00 a.m. on 21st January 2025, at the stables and was found to be sore by right fore with painful swelling on fetlock, as such, the mare was certified unfit to race and was permitted to be withdrawn on veterinary grounds and has to be passed fit by Club’s V.O., before next accepting to race.

 

At the start, MILA (Vivek G., dr.8) jumped outwards and had to be steadied.

 

At the start, SENTINEL (Bhawani Singh, dr.5) jumped outwards at the same time MILLI (K. G. Likith Appu, dr.7) jumped inwards thereby inconveniencing COIN EMPRESS (App. Mustakim Alam, dr.6) drawn between them, who had to be steadied.

 

Approaching the 800 metres, MILA (Vivek G.) leaned inwards thereby tightening JETFIRE (Prashant P. Dhebe) racing along the rails, who had to be steadied. Jockey Vivek G. has been cautioned.

 

It was observed that Jockey Bhawani Singh (SENTINEL) maintained an erratic course in the straight wherein approaching the 400 metres, SENTINEL shifted out under urgings and went across DEMETRIUS (S. Zervan) who had to check and change course resulting in COIN EMPRESS (App. Mustakim Alam) to shy outwards. Thereafter, approaching the 200 metres, SENTINEL leaned inwards onto WALTER (N. B. Kuldeep) who had to be checked. After questioning and not being satisfied, Jockey Bhawani Singh has been fined Rs.5,000/-.

 

In the final stages of the race, DEMETRIUS (S. Zervan) shifted in thereby tightening and bumping SENTINEL (Bhawani Singh) who in turn shifted in thereby bumping and unbalancing WALTER (N. B. Kuldeep) racing along the rails who had to be checked. After questioning and not being satisfied, Jockey S. Zervan has been fined Rs.10,000/-.

 

It was observed that passing the 200 metres, MILA (Vivek G.) shifted out under the use of whip thereby carrying JETFIRE (Prashant P. Dhebe) and MILLI (K. G. Likith Appu) outwards. After questioning and not being satisfied, Jockey Vivek G. has been fined Rs.3,000/-.

 

The Sr. V.O. reported that MILA was declared to run without bandages on both fore but ran with bandages. Trainer Nazzak B. Chenoy has been fined Rs.1,000/- for her lapse.

 

Jockey K. G. Likith Appu (MILLI) was observed to have used the whip in excess of the prescribed limit on his mount. This being his first offence during the current Mumbai Meeting 2024/25, he has been fined Rs.3,000/-.

 

After the race, COIN EMPRESS was examined by the Club’s Sr. V.O. and was found to be sore by left fore. The gelding has to be passed fit by Club’s V.O., before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, SENTINEL was observed to have an injury on right fore fetlock.

 

After the race, WALTER was trotted and found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.4 (82) – THE AZIZ H. AHMEDBHOY TROPHY: (ABOUT) 1600 METRES – RUNNERS – 7

 

SPLENDIDO (R. Ajinkya, dr.6) stumbled at the start.

 

At the start, WAIKIKI (N. S. Parmar, dr.7) jumped outwards and had to be steadied.

 

RACE NO.5 (83) – THE NADIA MARY HOMI WADIA TROPHY: (ABOUT) 1200 METRES – RUNNERS – 7

 

JOHNNY MAC (Vivek G., dr.3) was reluctant to be stalled. As such, Trainer Hosidar Daji has been asked to give his charge more gate practice and show the gelding to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

 

TYRANNUS (K. G. Likith Appu, dr.4) rushed into the front gates twice after being stalled, as such, the gelding was examined by the Club’s Sr. V.O., who certified him fit to race .Trainer Imtiaz A Sait has been asked to give his charge more gate practice and show the gelding to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

 

BEAT THE HEAT (App. Haridas Gore, dr.1) was reluctant to be stalled. Trainer H. J. Antia has been asked to give his charge more gate practice and show the gelding to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

 

BEAT THE HEAT (App. Haridas Gore, dr.1) took a fly jump at the start.  

 

EXCITING (C. Umesh, dr.6) lost about a length at the start, jumped outwards and had to be steadied.

 

Approaching the 1000 metres, JOHNNY MAC (Vivek G.) leaned inwards onto BEAT THE HEAT (App. Haridas Gore) who had to be steadied. Jockey Vivek G. has been cautioned.   

 

After the race, TYRANNUS was trotted and found to be sound.

 

After the race, SASEKA was trotted and found to be sound but was observed to have an injury on right fore fetlock.

 

The Equine hospital reported that EXCITING had left eye injury (sore).

 

RACE NO.6 (84) – THE ROYAL BARBERSHOP TROPHY  - DIVISION I: (ABOUT) 1200 METRES – RUNNERS - 10

 

At the start, NORTHERN SINGER (Shrikant Kamble, dr.1) took an awkward jump and stumbled thereby dislodging the rider.

 

At the start, ART COLLECTOR (A. Sandesh, dr.5) jumped inwards and made contact with HOUSE OF LORDS (App. S. Saba, dr.4).

 

At the start, THE GENERAL (Bhawani Singh, dr.9) jumped outwards and had to be steadied.

 

Approaching the 1000 metres, JET TYPHOON (Amyn Merchant) shifted in thereby tightening and inconveniencing ETOILE (Vishal N. Bunde) racing along the rails, who had to be checked. After questioning and not being satisfied, Jockey Amyn Merchant has been fined Rs.3,000/-.

 

After the race, Jockey A. Sandesh (ART COLLECTOR) reported that his mount was inclined outwards in the straight, despite his efforts. Trainer Aman Altaf Hussain has been asked to take remedial measures, before next accepting to race.

 

It was observed that App. S. Siddharth (WHATSINANAME) had failed to wear his goggles during the race. After questioning and not being satisfied, App. S. Siddharth has been fined Rs.500/-.

 

It was observed that ESPERANZA (P. Vinod) drifted out under urgings in the final stages of the race. Jockey P. Vinod has been severely cautioned.

 

After the race, MAJESIC WARRIOR was observed to have broken a blood vessel and is not permitted to race for the stipulated ban period of four weeks. The gelding has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O., before next accepting to race.

 

RACE NO.7 (85) – THE A. GEDDIS PLATE: (ABOUT) 1400 METRES – RUNNERS - 13

                                                                

Soon after the start, due to tightly packed field SAMSON (App. Mustakim Alam), ANAIRA (A. Prakash) and CAREGIVER (App. S. Saba) jostled with one another and had to be steadied. After questioning all concerned, Jockey A. Prakash and App. Mustakim Alam have been severely cautioned.

 

After the race, SAMSON & ANAIRA were trotted and found to be sound.

 

After the race, THE FLUTIST was observed to have a gum injury.

 

The Equine hospital reported that MAJOR SAAB had left eye injury (sore) with ulcer.

The urine samples of the winner of the 2nd, 3rd, 5th & 7th race, viz. IRISH GOLD, JETFIRE, JOHNNY MAC & LITTLE MINISTER and the special samples of ATATURK (1st race), PRINCE IGOR & MILA (3rd race), were collected for detection of prohibited substances.

In connection with the captioned subject matter, the Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Thursday, 23rd January 2025, having heard the submissions made by Trainer Dallas Todywalla, as also the Stipendiary Stewards, having viewed the video recording of the race in question and having deliberated in the matter at length, decided to give him the benefit of doubt and severely cautioned him for the future.

In connection with the captioned subject matter, the Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Thursday, 23rd January 2025, having heard the submissions made by Trainer Hosidar Daji, as also the Stipendiary Stewards, having viewed the video recording of the race in question and having deliberated in the matter at length, decided to give him the benefit of doubt and severely caution him for the future.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “LIAM” (DRAWN 1) IN RACE NO.56 - THE INDIAN AIR FORCE TROPHY (DIST. 1200 MTRS.) RUN ON 5TH JANUARY 2025:

 

In connection with the captioned subject matter, the Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Thursday, 23rd January 2025, having heard the submissions made by App. Bharat Singh, his spokesperson Mr. Bajrang Singh, Trainer Nazzak B. Chenoy, as also the Stipendiary Stewards, having viewed the video recording of the race in question and the previous races of the gelding i.e. Race nos.81 & 140 and having deliberated in the matter at length, the Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by him and held him guilty of riding an incompetent race. In that, his efforts were found wanting in the initial part of the race wherein he was sitting four lengths off the second last horse thereby placing his mount at a disadvantage. The Stewards considering the fact that this is his first year as an Apprentice Jockey, took a lenient view and decided to suspend his Jockey’s licence for one race day i.e. on 9th February 2025 (permitted to ride work/mock race).
