MUMBAI MEETING 2024/25, FIRST DAY, SUNDAY, 1ST, DECEMBER, 2024.

RACE DAY REPORTS

 

RAILS WERE PLACED FROM ITS ORIGINAL POINT FROM 1400 METRES(MILE CHUTE) LEADING TO 2 METRES AWAY AT 1200 METRES, 4 METRES AWAY AT 1000 METRES AND THEREAFTER 6 METRES AWAY UPTO THE WINNING POST. FOR THE RACES STARTING FROM THE BACK STRETCH RAILS WERE PLACED FROM ITS ORIGINAL POINT FROM 1400 METRES LEADING TO 2 METRES AWAY AT 1200 METRES AND 4 METRES AT 1000 METRES.

 

RACE NO.1 (8) – THE V. R. MENON PLATE: (ABOUT) 1600 METRES – RUNNERS - 8

 

MARIELLA (A. Prakash, dr.5) threw her head up as the start was affected thereby losing about two lengths at the start. After the race, Jockey A. Prakash reported that he was not ready whilst the start was affected. Having viewed the video recording of the in-stall camera of the start, the starter has been asked to be more observing in the future.

 

Soon after the start, THE FLUTIST (App. N. Bhosale) shifted out and carried NORTHBOUND (R. Ajinkya) outwards. App. N. Bhosale has been cautioned.

 

Soon after the start, it was observed that the blind fold used on THE FLUTIST (App. N. Bhosale) was lodged on the Jockeys arm and fell thereafter.

 

App. N. Bhosale (THE FLUTIST) was observed to have used the whip in excess of the prescribed limit on his mount. This being his 1st offence during the current Mumbai Meeting 2024/25, he has been fined Rs.3,000/-. Also the Jockey has been cautioned for having persisted with the whip on the right despite his mount shifting out in the straight.

 

After the race, AWAY SHE GOES was examined by the Club’s Sr. V.O. and was found to be sore by left fore. The mare has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O., before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, THE FLUTIST was observed to have lost its right fore shoe. TOOFAAN was observed to have an injury on left hind & right fore bulb of heel.

 

RACE NO.2 (9) – THE A. CAMPBELL TROPHY: (ABOUT) 1400 METRES – RUNNERS - 4

 

SINGER SARGENT (A. Sandesh, dr.4) lost about five lengths at the start. Trainer Faisal A. Abbas has been asked to give his charge more gate practice and show the gelding to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

 

At the start, RAMBLER (K. G. Likith Appu, dr.1) jumped outwards and made contact with CHARLIE (Bhawani Singh, dr.2) who had to be steadied.

 

Soon after the start, it was observed that the Nose Band used on RAMBLER (K. G. Likith Appu) got displaced. On inspection, the equipment was found to be in good condition, thereafter, after the race on questioning, Jockey K. G. Likith Appu stated that his mount was fractious inside the stalls due to which the Nose band may have got loose. Having viewed the video recording of the in-stall camera, the explanation was noted and no action was initiated.

 

After the race, RAMBLER was observed to have broken a blood vessel and is not permitted to race for the stipulated ban period of four weeks. The gelding has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O., before next accepting to race.

 

RACE NO.3 (10) – THE DR. JAGJIT SINGH TROPHY  - DIVISION I: (ABOUT) 1400 METRES – RUNNERS - 9

 

ESCONIDO (A. Prakash, dr.3) lost about three lengths at the start. Trainer S. Waheed has been asked to give his charge more gate practice and show the filly to the satisfaction of the Starter at the morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

 

At the start, SUBSTANTIAL (P. Trevor, dr.9) jumped outwards and had to be steadied.

 

After the race, NELSON RIVER & SUBSTANTIAL were trotted and found to be sound. EARTH was observed to have an injury on right hind fetlock.

 

RACE NO.4 (11) – THE CAPTAIN G. HALL TROPHY: (ABOUT) 1200 METRES – RUNNERS - 12

 

At the request of Jockey A. Sandesh, RED MIST was examined by the Club’s Sr. V.O. at the starting gate, who certified the filly fit to race.

 

CRYSTAL CLEAR (C. Umesh, dr.12) was reluctant to be stalled. Trainer Imtiaz A. Sait has been asked to give his charge more gate practice and show the filly to the satisfaction of the Starter at the morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

 

While stalling, WIND DANCER (Akshay Kumar, dr.5) lashed out and at the same time backed out of the gates and got loose behind the gates, the filly was caught by the handlers and whilst being re-stalled she was reluctant to be loaded. Trainer Dallas Todywalla has been asked to give his charge more gate practice and show the filly to the satisfaction of the Starter at the morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

 

At the start, YOU (K. G. Likith Appu, dr.6) jumped inwards at the same time WIND DANCER (Akshay Kumar, dr.5) jumped outwards and they made contact. Both Jockeys have been asked to be careful in the future.

 

At the start, STORM (T. S. Jodha, dr.9) jumped outwards and made contact with STAR IMPACT (Yash Narredu, dr.10). Jockey T. S. Jodha has been cautioned.

 

Approaching the 300 metres, OISHIKA (Santosh G.) shifted out under the use of whip thereby bumping and carrying DESERT CLASSIC (R. Ajinkya) outwards onto WIND DANCER (Akshay Kumar) at this juncture STAR IMPACT (Yash Narredu) racing on its haunches had to be steadied also due to the outward moment of WIND DANCER, RED MIST shied outwards. After questioning all concerned, Jockey Santosh G. has been fined Rs.5000/-.

 

After the race, RED MIST was trotted and found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.5 (12) – THE DIRECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE TROPHY: (ABOUT) 1600 METRES – RUNNERS - 8

 

Approaching the starting gate, ALEXANDROS was observed to have a gum injury. The colt was examined by the Club’s Sr. V.O., who certified him fit to race.

 

THE PANTHER (Vivek G., dr.8) was fractious after being stalled, the colt was examined by the Club’s Sr. V.O., who certified him fit to race. Trainer P. Shroff has been asked to give his charge more gate practice and show the colt to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

 

EATON SQUARE (S. J. Sunil, dr.3) lost about a length at the start.

 

Jockey K. Nazil (ALEXANDROS) was observed to have used the whip in excess of the prescribed limit on his mount. This being his 1st offence during the current Mumbai Meeting 2024/25, he has been fined Rs.3,000/-.

 

Jockey Suraj Narredu (INQUILAB) was observed to have used the whip in excess of the prescribed limit on his mount. This being his 1st offence during the current Mumbai Meeting 2024/25, he has been fined Rs.3,000/-.

 

After the race, THE PANTHER was trotted and found to be sound. GOLDEN THUNDER was observed to have an injury on left hind fetlock.

 

RACE NO.6 (13) – THE DR. JAGJIT SINGH TROPHY  - DIVISION II: (ABOUT) 1400 METRES – RUNNERS - 9

 

CHAGALL (P. Trevor, dr.4) was fractious and reared up in the stall. As such, the colt was taken out and was examined by the Club’s Sr. V.O., who certified him fit to race. Trainer P. Shroff has been asked to give his charge more gate practice and show the colt to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

 

Approaching the 800 metres, NOSTALGIA (Suraj Narredu) leaned inwards onto BEYOND STARS (A. Prakash) who in turn shifted in due to which LUMINOSITY (App. Haridas Gore) racing along the rails was tightened, inconvenienced and had to be checked. Jockey Suraj Narredu has been cautioned.

 

After the race, CHAGALL was trotted and found to be sound but was observed to have a gum injury. NOSTALGIA was trotted and found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.7 (14) – THE SIR JAMSETJEE JEEJEEBHOY (VI BART) TROPHY: (ABOUT) 1000 METRES – RUNNERS - 8

 

At the start, DELSTAR (C. S. Jodha, dr.5) jumped inwards and made contact with AMONG THE STARS (Yash Narredu, dr.4).

 

Approaching the 100 metres, AMONG THE STARS (Yash Narredu) leaned inwards thereby tightening MATISSE (Vivek G.) and forcing it inwards onto MERLET (R. Ajinkya) causing the latter to collide with the rails and be checked.

 

An objection was lodged by Jockey Vivek G., the rider of MATISSE (Placed 2nd) by the Judge against Jockey Yash Narredu, the rider of AMONG THE STARS (Placed 1st) by the Judge. The reason stated was, in the last 150/100 metres, Jockey Vivek G. did not have any room to gallop and had to stop riding. He further added that it was the first run of his horse and the second run of the winner. If he had not got checked, he would have won comfortably.

 

After considering the submissions made by the Jockeys concerned, in conjunction with that of the Stipendiary Stewards, having viewed the video recording of the race and acting on their own observation of the race, the Stewards noted that the incident was accidental, decided to upheld the objection and revised the order of placing as under:-

 

MATISSE                                -    FIRST;                  MERLET                      -    THIRD;

 

AMONG THE STARS            -   SECOND;              WHIRLWIND               -   FOURTH.

  

RACE NO.8 (15) – THE GATEWAY OF INDIA PLATE: (ABOUT) 1200 METRES – RUNNERS - 8

 

BRAVE BEAUTY (K.Nazil, dr.5) lost considerable ground at the start. Trainer Hosidar Daji has been asked to give his charge more gate practice and show the mare in a mock race to the satisfaction of the Starter, before next accepting to race.

 

At the start, EXPEDITE (S. G. Prasad, dr.8) jumped outwards and had to be steadied thereafter shifted in under urgings onto JET TYPHOON (Amyn Merchant, dr.7) who in turn shifted in and bumped SHAMBALA (P. Trevor, dr.6) causing the latter to be steadied. After questioning and not being satisfied with the explanation tendered, Jockey S. G. Prasad has been fined Rs.5,000/-.

 

Approaching the 150 metres, EXPEDITE (S. G. Prasad) shifted in and tightened LAZARUS (R. Ajinkya) racing along the rails causing the latter to be checked. Jockey S. G. Prasad has been cautioned.

 

After the race, LAZARUS was trotted at the stables and found to be sound.

The urine samples of the winner of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th race, viz. FLOYD, SANTISSIMO, EARTH & DESERT CLASSIC and the special samples of DAIANNE (1st race), GOLDEN THUNDER (5th race), WHIRLWIND (7th race) & AZRINAZ (8th race), were collected for detection of prohibited substances.

 

The blood sample of the MUSKOKA (7th race), was collected for detection of prohibited substances.

ADDITIONAL REPORT:

 

RE: RACE NO.4 (120) – THE NOSHIR & DOLLY DHUNJIBHOY SPRINT MILLION  (GRADE 3): RUN ON 13TH OCTOBER 2024:

 

Passing the 900 metres, there was an incident involving MARKET KING (Antony Raj S.) and TIME AND TIDE (A. Sandesh). Having reviewed the race, it was observed that TIME AND TIDE and MARKET KING jostled with each other on more than one occasion. After questioning the Jockeys concerned and not being satisfied, Jockeys A. Sandesh and Antony Raj S. were fined Rs.3,000/- each.
