RACE DAY REPORTS
RAILS WERE PLACED AT THE ORIGINAL POINT.
RACE NO.1(1) – THE WELCOME TROPHY: (ABOUT) 1200 METRES – RUNNERS - 8
Jockey Akshay Kumar (CHRISTOPHANY) was unable to draw the proper weight. As such, Trainer Imtiaz A. Sait was permitted to declare Jockey Neeraj Rawal on his charge, in place of Jockey Akshay Kumar. In view of the above, Jockey Akshay Kumar has been fined Rs.5,000/- for failing to fulfill his riding engagement.
At the start, NEW DIMENSION (Yash Narredu, dr.5) jumped inwards onto CHRISTOPHANY (Neeraj Rawal, dr.4) causing the latter to be steadied.
At the start, ALPHA GENE (R. Shelar, dr.7) jumped outwards and made contact with MOJO (Amyn Merchant, dr.8)
Approaching the 350 metres, LIAM (T. S. Jodha) shifted out under urgings thereby bumping and tightening CHRISTOPHANY (Neeraj Rawal) who in turn shifted out onto MIGHTY THUNDER (App. Mustakim Alam). After questioning and not being satisfied with the explanation tendered, Jockey T. S. Jodha has been fined Rs.3,000/-.
After the race, App. N. Bhosale (DEMOCRACY) reported that as soon as the start was effected his left leg slipped out of the stirrup which he regained immediately. App. N. Bhosale has been asked to be more careful in the future.
After the race, DEMOCRACY was trotted and found to be sound.
RACE NO.2(2) – THE P. B. AVASIA PLATE: (ABOUT) 1600 METRES – RUNNERS - 6
Tr. M. Narredu informed that his charge HOOVES OF THUNDER was under medication and had requested to withdraw the gelding from the race. As such, he was permitted to withdraw his charge and is fined Rs.15,000/- for his lapse. Further, in accordance with Calendar Notification the sample has been collected for analysis.
At the start, BANKSY (App. Haridas Gore, dr.5) jumped inwards and went across ZUCCARO (P. S. Chouhan, dr.4) who was marginally slow to begin.
At the start, KIMIKO (C. S. Jodha, dr.1) jumped outwards and brushed the haunches of CHENEVIX TRENCH (Neeraj Rawal, dr.2) who had to be steadied.
From the 350 metres, EL GRECO (C. Umesh) (placed first by the Judge) shifted out under urgings thereby tightening the field on his outside due to which CHENEVIX TRENCH (Neeraj Rawal) racing on its haunches was tightened for room and thereby lost its footing and fell along with the rider. In view of the accident, the Stipendiary Stewards initiated a Stewards enquiry. The Stewards having viewed the race on the CCTV monitor in conjunction with the Stipendiary Stewards and acting on their own observations of the race decided not to alter the placing as declared by the Judge, however, they termed the incident as careless riding on the part of Jockey C. Umesh.
Jockey C. Umesh has been asked to appear before the Stewards of the Club at their next meeting.
After the race, CHENEVIX TRENCH was examined by the Club’s Sr. V.O. and was found to have multiple fractures on left fore cannon, the colt was euthanized on humanitarian grounds.
After the race, ZUCCARO was examined by the Club’s Sr. V.O. and was found to be lame by left hind, as such, the gelding has to be passed fit by Club’s V.O., before next accepting to race.
RACE NO.3(3) – THE A. HOYT PLATE: (ABOUT) 1400 METRES – RUNNERS - 10
After the race, on being questioned, Jockey C. Umesh (CORDELIA, dr.5) stated that his mount was marginally slow to begin at the start and added that he was denied a clear passage in the straight until passing the 150 metres due to which he was unable to ride out his mount to full advantage.
After the race, DEXA & CORDELIA were trotted and found to be sound.
RACE NO.4(4) – THE ROYAL CALCUTTA TURF CLUB TROPHY: (ABOUT) 1200 METRES –RUNNERS- 4
Immediately after the race, the Asst. Starter reported to the Stipendiary Stewards that he had erred whilst giving the start which had resulted in a false start. Subsequently, Jockeys Y. S. Srinath (JOAQUIN dr.4), S. Saqlain (THE PROTECTOR dr.3) and Neeraj Rawal (SKY FALL dr.2) reported to the Stipendiary Stewards that there was a reasonable delay between the flag being lowered and the gates having opened due to which their respective mounts had rushed the front gates as a result their mounts were unbalanced thus impacting their start.
In View of the above the Stipendiary Stewards, initiated a Stewards enquiry into the start of the race. On being questioned by the Stewards Asst. Starter J. E. Pereira stated that he had erred by failing to press the button for the start whilst lowering the flag and admitted that it was a false start.
The Stewards having heard the submissions made by all concerned in that the Asst. Starter Mr. J. E. Pereira, Jockeys Y. S. Srinath, Neeraj Rawal, S. Saqlain, Trainer Narendra Lagad as well as the Stipendiary Stewards and having watched the start from all angles noted that there was a considerable delay in the gates having opened after the flag being lowered also the contention of the Jockeys was borne out from the replay, hence, acting on their own observations decided to declare the race Null and Void in accordance with Rule 31 (a) and all bets placed were ordered to be refunded.
After the last race on being questioned, the Asst. Starter admitted to his error which led to a false start. Under the circumstances, Mr. J. E. Pereira was fined for the lapse on his part and was cautioned for the future.
RACE NO.5(5) – THE SECRET STAR PLATE: (ABOUT) 1400 METRES – RUNNERS - 7
FANTASTIC FLARE (J. Chinoy, dr.1) was reluctant to reach the starting gates. As such, Trainer Narendra Lagad has been asked to take remedial measures, before next accepting to race.
In the process of being stalled, ZIP ALONG (App. Mustakim Alam, dr.7) rushed and came out of the front gate, the filly was taken behind the gates and was re-stalled.
After the race, App. Haridas Gore (DAGGER’S STRIKE) reported loss of whip passing the 200 metres. This being his first instance during the current Mumbai Meeting 2023/24, no action has been initiated. However, he has been asked to be more careful in the future and has been referred to the riding instructor to practice the use of whip.
After the race, ZIP ALONG was trotted and found to be sound but was found to have a gum injury.
RACE NO.6(6) – THE KAZAKH PLATE: (ABOUT) 1000 METRES – RUNNERS - 8
At the start, NORTHERN SINGER (A. K. Aniket, dr.2) jumped outwards at the same time OPERATION FINALE (S. J. Sunil dr.3) leaned inwards and they made contact resulting in the latter to be steadied.
AXIS (K. Nazil) was observed to have trailed the field. Trainer Narendra Lagad has been asked to ensure that his charge puts up a reasonable performance in the future.
After the race, AXIS was trotted at the stables and found to be sound and MI ARION was found to have a gum injury.

The urine samples of the winner of the 1st & 3rd race, viz. CHRISTOPHANY & BELIEVE, and the special sample of HOOVES OF THUNDER (2nd race) & the blood sample of ZUCCARO, were collected for detection of prohibited substances.

ADDITIONAL REPORTS:
RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “ZUCCARO” (DRAWN 3) IN RACE NO. 118 – THE JIMMY UMRIGAR TROPHY (DIST. 1400 MTRS.) RUN ON 15TH OCTOBER 2023 :
In connection with the captioned subject matter, the Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Wednesday, 22nd November 2023, considered all the papers and proceedings before them and heard the submissions made by Jockey P. Trevor, Trainer P. Shroff as also the Stipendiary Stewards and having viewed the video recording of the race in question as also Race No. 70 during the Pune Meeting 2023, the Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey P. Trevor and held him guilty of riding an ill-judged race on his mount ZUCCARO in the above race, for the following reasons and decided to fine him Rs. 50,000/-.
i) Soon after the start, even though he jumped out slow, he could have made more efforts to come in a better position which he failed to do.
ii) Even in the straight, he did not show the same enthusiasm in his riding whereby he could have been more vigorous in his riding efforts.
