MUMBAI MEETING 2022/23, SEVENTEENTH DAY, SUNDAY 19TH MARCH 2023

(EVENING RACE DAY)

 

(PENETROMETER: 4.0 (LONGCHAMP METHOD); GOING: GOOD)

 

RACE DAY REPORTS

 

RAILS WERE PLACED 2 METRES AWAY FROM ITS ORIGINAL POINT FROM 1400 METRES (MILE CHUTE) UP TO THE WINNING POST.

 

FOR THE RACES STARTING FROM THE BACK STRETCH RAILS WERE PLACED 2 METRES AWAY FROM ITS ORIGINAL POINT FROM 1600 METRES TO 1000 METRES.

 

On a request from Trainer M. K. Jadhav, permission was granted to Trainer A. M. Jadhav to saddle his charge FORTUNATE SON in the 3rd race and WAIKIKI in the 5th race, at his own (Trainer M. K. Jadhav’s) risk and responsibility.

 

On a request from Trainer Narendra Lagad, permission was granted to Trainer Sangramsingh Joshi to saddle his charge REMY RED in the 7th race and C’EST L’AMOUR in the 9th race, at his own (Trainer Narendra Lagad’s) risk and responsibility.

 

RACE NO.1(145) THE MIDNIGHT MADNESS TROPHY DIVISION II : (ABOUT) 1600 METRES - RUNNERS - 10

 

STUNNING VISUAL (K. Nazil, dr.10) jumped out slowly losing about 6 lengths at the start. Trainer Hosidar Daji has been asked to give his charge more gate practice and show the filly to the Satisfaction of the Starter at the morning Starting trails, before next accepting to race.

 

At the start, DUFY (P. Trevor, dr.4) jumped outwards onto MALAKHI (App. Haridas Gore, dr.5).

 

After the race, Jockey P. Trevor (DUFY) reported that his mount hung out throughout the race despite his efforts. Trainer Faisal A. Abbas has been asked to take remedial measures, before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, DUFY was trotted and found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.2(146) THE MIDNIGHT MADNESS TROPHY DIVISION I: (ABOUT) 1600 METRES - RUNNERS – 10

 

METZINGER (P. Trevor, dr.5) and FREEDOM (C. S. Jodha, dr.9) were reluctant to reach the starting point thereby causing delay in the start. Trainer Hosidar Daji and Trainer Imtiaz A. Sait have been asked to take remedial measures, before next accepting to race and ensure that their charges reach on time.

 

On the arrival at the start, at the request of Jockey S. Zervan (MASCARA) the saddle of his mount was adjusted.

 

ESFIR (Bhawani Singh, dr.8) jumped out slowly thereby losing considerable ground at the start. Trainer Sanjay Kolse has been asked to give his charge more gate practice and show the mare to the Satisfaction of the Starter at the morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

 

At the Start, WALTER (A. Sandesh, dr. 2) jumped inwards at the same time WILD SPIRIT (K. Nazil, dr. 1) jumped outwards and they made contact.

 

Soon after the start, METZINGER (P. Trevor) shifted in and went across WILD SPIRIT (K. Nazil,) who had to be steadied. After questioning, and not being satisfied with his explanation, Jockey P. Trevor has been fined Rs.2,000/-.

 

Jockey C. S. Jodha (FREEDOM) was observed to have used the whip in excess of the prescribed limit on his mount. This being his 1st offence during the current Mumbai Meeting 2022/23, he has been fined Rs.3,000/-

 

After the race, MASCARA was found to be sore by the right fore leg. The mare has to be passed fit by the Club’s Sr. V.O., before next accepting to race.

 

RACE NO.3(147) THE PRONTO PRONTO TROPHY:(ABOUT)1400 METRES- RUNNERS -  6

 

GREAT GUNS (A. Sandesh, dr.2) was reluctant to reach the starting point, thereby causing delay in the start. Trainer S. K. Sunderji has been asked to take remedial measures, before next accepting to race and ensure the gelding reaches on time.

 

Jockey N. S. Parmar (FORTUNATE SON) was observed to have used the whip in excess of the prescribed limit on his mount. On questioning, Jockey N.S. Parmar stated that his mount was leaning outwards in the straight and as such he had used the whip as a corrective measure, as the same was borne out from the video of the race, no action has been initiated against the Jockey. However, Trainer M. K. Jadhav has been asked to take remedial measures, before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, CIPHER was trotted and found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.4(148) THE SHAPOORJI PALLONJI BREEDERS' JUVENILE COLTS' CHAMPIONSHIP (GRADE III): (ABOUT) 1600 METRES – RUNNERS - 7

 

On the way to the Start, SEA THE SUN (P.S. Chouhan) dislodged its rider and bolted off towards the starting point and was apprehended.  Thereafter, the Colt was examined at the Stating gates by the Club’s Sr. V. O. who certified him fit to race. As per the norms, Trainer P. Shroff was contacted and had requested to allow the colt to participate in the race. After the race, SEA THE SUN was trotted and found to be sound.

 

Soon after the start, SEA THE SUN (P. S. Chouhan, dr.7) was observed to have been inclined outwards. After the race, Jockey P S Chouhan confirmed the same and added that the colt was inclined out despite his efforts. In view of the colts behavior, Trainer P. Shroff has been asked to take remedial measures, before next accepting to race.

 

Passing the 1200 metres, ALEXANDROS (Neeraj Rawal) shifted in and went across BIG RED (Bhawani Singh)  causing the latter to check. After questioning and not being satisfied with the explanation, Jockey Neeraj Rawal has been fined Rs. 2000/-

 

After the race, CHRISTOFLE was trotted and was found to have a clip injury on right hind tendon. Further, it was also observed that the colt had lost its left hind shoe.

 

After the race, WINTER AGENDA was trotted and found to be sound. Subsequently, on 20th March 2023, Trainer Adhirajsingh Jodha reported the colt to the Equine Hospital for lameness. On examination the colt was found to be sore by left fore leg and was treated for the same, as such the colt has to be passed fit by the Club’s Sr. V.O. before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, AXLROD was trotted and found to be sound.

 

RACE NO. 5(149) THE FORBES BREEDERS' JUVENILE FILLIES' CHAMPIONSHIP (GRADE III): (ABOUT) 1600 METRES – RUNNERS - 6

 

Passing the 400 metres, WAIKIKI (N.S. Parmar) leaned inwards due to which MOMENTOUS (A. Sandesh) shied in and had to be checked. After questioning and not being satisfied with the explanation, Jockey N.S. Parmar has been fined Rs. 2000/-

 

TRANSCEND (K. Nazil) was observed to be running green in the straight.

 

Jockey N. S. Parmar (WAIKIKI) was observed to have used the whip in excess of the prescribed limit on his mount. This being his 2nd offence during the current Mumbai Meeting 2022/23, he has been fined Rs.5,000/-

 

After the race, Jockey A. Sandesh (MOMENTOUS) reported that his mount hung out throughout the race. Trainer Rajesh Narredu has been asked to take remedial measures, before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, TRANSCEND was observed to have broken a blood vessel and is not to race for the stipulated ban period of four weeks. The filly has to be passed fit by the Club’s Sr. V.O., before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, VERSACE was trotted and was found to have a clip injury on right hind tendon.

 

After the race, MOMENTOUS was trotted and found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.6(150) THE J. RUSTOMJI SOPARIVALA TROPHY: (ABOUT) 1000 METRES -  RUNNERS - 7

 

At the request of Trainer Dallas Todywalla, MI ARION was examined by the Club’s Sr. V.O. in the stable area at 10:05 am on 17/03/2023 and was found to have congestion of conjunctival mucous membranes, heavy respiration and 102 degree temperature, as such, the gelding was certified unfit to race and was permitted to be withdrawn on Veterinary grounds and has to be passed fit by Club’s Sr. V.O., before next accepting to race.

 

On the way to the Start, SENORITA D (Neeraj Rawal) dislodged its rider and bolted off towards the starting point and was apprehended. As per the norms, Trainer M. Narredu was contacted and had requested to allow the filly to participate in the race.

 

At the Start, CYRENAICA (S. P. Ranjane, dr. 3) jumped inwards thereby brushing the haunches of MOONLIGHT KISS (K. Nazil, dr.2).

 

At the start, UGLY TRUTH (A. S. Peter, dr. 7) jumped outwards and had to be steadied.

 

Passing the 200 metres, SENORITA D (Neeraj Rawal) shifted in and went across CYRENAICA (S. P. Ranjane) who had to be steadied. Jockey Neeraj Rawal has been cautioned.

 

After the race, JULIANA was trotted and found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.7(151) THE J. P. VAZIFDAR TROPHY: (ABOUT) 1400 METRES - RUNNERS – 9

 

At the start, REMY RED (J. Chinoy, dr.3) jumped inwards and at the same time TOUSSAINT (Neeraj Rawal, dr.1) jumped outwards due to which PYRRHUS (C. S. Jodha, dr.2) drawn between them was tightened for room and had to be steadied.

 

FLASHING FAMOUS (T. S. Jodha) leaned outwards on to TOUSSAINT (Neeraj Rawal).

 

An objection was lodged by Jockey Neeraj Rawal, rider of TOUSSAINT placed fifth by the Judge against Jockey T. S. Jodha rider of FLASHING FAMOUS placed third by the Judge. On the grounds that he was tailing FLASHING FAMOUS (T. S. Jodha) till the 600 metres, turning into the straight he came alongside him and from the 500 metres, when he was trying to make a run at which time FLASHING FAMOUS (T. S. Jodha) moved out, bumped and bored him on three occasions which had intimated his horse to raise a fluent gallop and the verdict being ¾ lengths between them it cost him a certain place.

 

After reviewing the race from various angles and considering the submissions made by the concerned Jockeys in conjunction with the Stipendiary Stewards and relying on their own observation of the race, the Stewards decided that it was accidental and over-ruled the objection.

 

After the race, on questioning Jockey T. S. Jodha (FLASHING FAMOUS) stated that his mount was inclined outwards despite his efforts. Trainer H. J. Antia has been asked to take remedial measures, before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, PYRRHUS was found to be sore by the left fore leg. The filly has to be passed fit by the Club’s Sr. V.O., before next accepting to race.

 

RACE NO.8(152) THE PHOENIX TIGER TROPHY DIVISION I: (ABOUT) 1200 METRES - RUNNERS - 10

 

M'SARRAT (App. Haridas Gore, dr.5) took a fly jump thereby losing about 6 lengths at the start, Trainer Rehanullah Khan has asked to give his charge more gate practice and show the mare to the Satisfaction of the Starter at morning Starting trails, before next accepting to race.

 

Soon after the start, NORD (C. S. Jodha) racing between COGNOSCO (Vishal N. Bunde) and KING OF KATNI (Amyn Merchant) was tightened for room and had to be steadied.

 

Passing the 500 metres, RED DUST (App. N.K. Ashish) shifted in and went across TARZAN (P. S. Chouhan) causing the latter to check and drop back. Thereafter, approaching the 300 metres, RED DUST (N. K. Ashish) further shifted in under urgings thereby tightening and inconveniencing ANOUSHKA (K. Nazil) along the rails causing the latter to check and change course. After questioning and not being satisfied with the explanation, Jockey N. K. Ashish has been fined Rs.2000/- and further has been referred to the riding instructor to improve his riding skills.

 

After the race, NORD was found to be sore by the right fore leg as such the gelding has to be passed fit by the Club’s Sr. V.O., before next accepting to race.

 

RACE NO.9(153) THE PHOENIX TIGER TROPHY DIVISION I: (ABOUT) 1200 METRES - RUNNERS - 10

The urine samples of the winner of the 1st and 2nd race, viz. MYRCELLA & WALTER were collected for detection of prohibited substance.

 

The urine and blood sample of CHRISTOFLE & SEA THE SUN (Winner, Second – 4th race), WAIKIKI & TRANSCEND (Winner, Second - 5th race), were collected for detection of prohibited substance. However, only Urine Samples were sent for analysis.

RE: MOCK RACE HELD ON 19TH MARCH 2023.

 

The Sr. V.O. reported that during the mock race held on 19th March 2023, LIVELY MISTER (Saddle no.299) was observed to have broken a blood vessel and is not to race for the stipulated ban period of four weeks. The gelding has to be passed fit by the Club’s Sr. V.O., before next accepting to race.

 

RE : APPEAL FROM TRAINER NAZZAK CHENOY AGAINST THE DECISION OF THE OF THE STEWARDS OF THE CLUB IN RESPECT OF THE FINE OF RS.25,000/- IMPOSED FOR PARTICIPATION OF HIS CHARGE “INISHMORE” IN THE MOCK RACE BUT FAILING TO RUN IN THE NOMINATED RACE DURING THE PUNE MEETING 2022

 

The Board of Appeal at their meeting held on Thursday, 17th March 2023, considered Appeal dated 18th February 2023, from Trainer Nazzak Chenoy in the captioned matter.

 

The Board of Appeal deliberated on the matter at length and having considered all the papers and documents that were submitted and having heard the submission made by Trainer Nazzak Chenoy and having applied their minds to the same, decided to allow the appeal and as such waive off the fine of Rs.25,000/- imposed on her;

The Board of Appeal deliberated on the matter at length and having considered all the papers and documents that were submitted and having heard the submission made by Trainer Narendra Lagad and having applied their minds to the same, decided to allow the appeal and as such waive off the fine of Rs.25,000/- imposed on him;

 

RE : APPEAL FROM JOCKEY R. AJINKYA AGAINST THE DECISION OF THE STEWARDS OF THE CLUB IN RESPECT OF SUSPENSION OF HIS JOCKEY’S LICENCE FOR SIX MONTHS  I.E. W. E. F. 19TH MARCH 2023 UPTO THE END OF THE MUMBAI MEETING 2022/23 AND THEREAFTER, SHOULD HE APPLY FOR GRANT OF A JOCKEY’S LICENSE FOR THE RACING SEASON 2023/24, THE SAME SHALL BE GRANTED TO HIM, HOWEVER, HIS LICENCE SHALL STAND SUSPENDED UPTO AND INCLUSIVE OF 19TH SEPTEMBER 2023 FOR NOT PERMITTING HIS MOUNT  “JERUSALEM” (DRAWN 5) TO RUN ON ITS MERIT  IN RACE NO.111 – THE SONNY BRAR TROPHY (DIST. 2000 MTRS.) RUN ON SUNDAY, 19TH FEBRUARY 2023 :

 

The Board of Appeal at their meeting held on Thursday, 17th March 2023, considered Appeal dated 16th March 2023, from Jockey R. Ajinkya in the captioned matter.

 

The Board of Appeal having considered all documents and papers that were submitted including Jockey R. Ajinkya’s Grounds of Appeal, and having heard the submissions made by Jockey R. Ajinkya and his spokesperson, Ms. Anita Khalakdina and Trainer M. Narredu.

 

The Board of Appeal deliberated on the matter at length and having applied their minds decided to reject the appeal and accordingly the decision of the Stewards of the Club stands. However, in view of the Stay granted his Jockeys License now stands suspended for a period of Six months   w. e. f. 20th March 2023 upto the end of the Mumbai Meeting 2022/23 and thereafter, should he apply for grant of a Jockey’s license for the racing season 2023/24, the same shall be granted to him, However, his licence shall stand suspended upto and including 20th September 2023 for not permitting his mount “JERUSALEM” to run on its merits.  :

 

·         During the period of his punishment:

 

a)    He is not permitted to ride work;

b)    He is not permitted to attend racing, on course or off course;

c)    He is not permitted to enter the stable area at Mumbai and Pune.

 

·         The deposit was forfeited.

 

RE : RACE NO.8 (144) THE KUSUMBEN DHIRUBHAI SHAH TROPHY DIVISION II (ABOUT) 1000 METRES - RUNNERS – 9

 

In the last 100 metres, LORD MURPHY (S. Zervan) shifted in thereby causing LADY DI (App. P. Shinde) to check and change course resulting in SLAM DUNK (App. N. Bhosale) to stumble due to which SMART CHOICE (Vishal N.Bunde) & HABIBI (App. P. Vinod) were inconvenienced.
