RACE DAY REPORTS
RAILS WERE PLACED 4 METRES AWAY FROM ITS ORIGINAL POINT FROM 1400 METRES (MILE CHUTE) LEADING TO 6 METRES AWAY AT 1200 METRES, 8 METRES AWAY AT 1000 METRES, 10 METRES AWAY AT 800 METRES AND THEREAFTER 12 METRES AWAY UPTO THE WINNING POST.
FOR THE RACES STARTING FROM THE BACK STRETCH RAILS WERE PLACED FROM ITS ORIGINAL POINT FROM 1400 METRES LEADING TO 5 METRES AWAY AT 1200 METRES AND 8 METRES AWAY AT 1000 METRES.
RACE NO.1(130) THE INDIARACE.COM TROPHY: (ABOUT) 2000 METRES - RUNNERS - 4
App. Mustakim Alam (RASPUTIN) was observed to have used the whip in excess of the prescribed limit on his mount. This being his second offence during the current Mumbai Meeting 2022/23, he has been fined Rs.5,000/-.
After the race, SANDMAN was observed to have broken a blood vessel and is not to race for the stipulated ban period of four weeks. The gelding has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.
After the race, RASPUTIN was trotted and found to be sound.
RACE NO.2(131) THE TIMES OF INDIA CUP (THE RACE MIRROR TROPHY - DIVISION II): (ABOUT) 1400 METRES - RUNNERS - 10
Approaching the 700 metres, TOOFAAN (App. P. Vinod) shifted in and went across DAGGER’S STRIKE (App. N. Bhosale) and SILENT KNIGHT (App. P. Shinde) causing both the horses to be steadied. App. P. Vinod has been cautioned.
App. Mustakim Alam (CAMILLE) was observed to have used the whip in excess of the prescribed limit on his mount. This being his third offence during the current Mumbai Meeting 2022/23, his Apprentice Jockey’s licence has been suspended for 2 race days i.e. on 1st & 2nd April 2023 (permitted to ride work/mock race).
After the race, TOOFAAN & SILENT KNIGHT were trotted and found to be sound.
RACE NO.3(132) THE HINDU CUP: (ABOUT) 1400 METRES - RUNNERS - 6
From the 350 metres onwards, SUPREME SPIRIT (P. S. Kaviraj) was observed to have drifted out and finished the race on the outer portion of the track. After the race, App. P. S. Kaviraj reported that his mount hung-out in the straight, despite his efforts. In view of the behavior of the filly Trainer Imtiaz A. Sait has been asked to take remedial measures, before next accepting to race.
Passing the 200 metres, App. Mustakim Alam (GLACIER) was observed to have lost his balance momentarily and in the process had lost his whip. On questioning, App. Mustakim Alam stated that he had momentarily lost balance due to which he lost the whip. This being his 2nd instance during the current Mumbai Meeting 2022/23, he has been fined Rs.2,000/- also he has been referred back to the riding instructor to practice his finishing especially whilst using the whip.
After the race, the Sr. V. O. reported that KINZHAL had bled from his left nostril and declared as an EIPHS case. However, at the request of Trainer S. K. Sunderji the gelding was examined and found to have sustained an injury on left side of his forehead. Retrospective, after loading, the gelding had rushed to the front gates and therefore could have suffered an injury on his forehead at the gates thereby causing bleeding from frontal sinus into his left nostril. For further investigation an endoscopic examination was performed which revealed streaks of blood in trachea suggestive of only EIPHS Grade II. So, the statutory ban of four weeks was not imposed on KINZHAL.
After the race, STREET SENSE was trotted and found to be sound.
RACE NO.4(133) THE MID-DAY TROPHY: (ABOUT) 1000 METRES – RUNNERS - 9
At the start, QUEENS PRIDE (App. P. Shinde, dr.6) jumped outwards at the same time MOJO (App. P. Vinod, dr.7) jumped inwards and they made contact.
Approaching the 750 metres, MOJO (App. P. Vinod) shifted in under urgings thereby bumping and forcing QUEENS PRIDE (App. P. Shinde) inwards, who in turn shifted in and made contact with MIRAE (App. Mustakim Alam) due to this incident both QUEENS PRIDE & MIRAE were unbalanced momentarily. After the race, on questioning and not being satisfied with the explanation tendered by App. P. Vinod, his Apprentice Jockeys licence has been suspended for 1 race day i.e. on 1st April 2023 (permitted to ride work/mock race) for careless riding.
From the 350 metres onwards, ALMAS (App. A. S. Peter) was observed to have inclined outwards thereby carrying HILMA KLINT (App. A. K. Aniket) and FAIRUZA (P. S. Kaviraj) outwards. Trainer S. K. Sunderji has been asked to take remedial measures, before next accepting to race.
After the race, TANHAIYAAN was trotted at the Stables and found to be sound.
RACE NO.5(134) THE FREE PRESS JOURNAL CUP: (ABOUT) 1200 METRES – RUNNERS - 8
CHAMPAGNE SMILE (App. P. Vinod, dr.5) jumped out throwing its head up at the start.
Approaching the 800 metres, CHARMING STAR (App. Mustakim Alam) leaned inwards thereby tightening and inconveniencing CHAMPAGNE SMILE (App. P. Vinod) who had to be checked. App. Mustakim Alam has been cautioned.
After the race, SKY COMMANDER was trotted and found to be sound, CHAMPAGNE SMILE was trotted at the Stables and found to be sound.
RACE NO.6(135) THE RACINGPULSE.IN TROPHY: (ABOUT) 1000 METRES - RUNNERS - 9
At the request of Trainer Narendra Lagad, DESERT FIRE was examined by the Club’s Sr. V.O. in the stable area at 11:35 am on 09/03/2023 and was found to be sore by right fore, as such, the gelding was certified unfit to race and was permitted to be withdrawn on Veterinary grounds and has to be passed fit by Club’s V.O., before next accepting to race.
At the start, LIT (App. Gagandeep Maan, dr.6) jumped outwards thereby bumping CIPHER (App. A. S. Peter, dr.7) who in turn shifted out and made contact with LORD VADER (App. Kirtish Bhagat, dr.8). App. Gagandeep Maan has been cautioned.
From the 300 metres onwards, RODRIGO (L. Alex Rozario) was inclined outwards and went across SUPERLATIVE (App. P. Shinde) causing the latter to change course. Jockey L. Alex Rozario has been cautioned.
After the race, CIPHER was trotted and found to be sound, LIT was observed to have lost its left fore shoe.
RACE NO.7(136) THE RACE MIRROR TROPHY DIVISION I: (ABOUT) 1400 METRES - RUNNERS - 10
ESFIR (App. P. Shinde, dr.8) jumped out slowly losing about 2 lengths at the start.
At the start, LION KING (App. P. S. Kaviraj, dr.1) jumped outwards onto POWER OF BLESSINGS (App. A. K. Aniket, dr.2).
After the race, App. Kirtish Bhagat (ANOUSHKA, dr.9) reported that the start was effected whilst he was not ready. The Stipendiary Stewards will be looking into the same and report will be submitted shortly.
After the race, App. Mustakim Alam (MOUNT SINAI) reported that his reins slipped momentarily passing the 100 metres.
App. Mustakim Alam (MOUNT SINAI) was observed to have used the whip in excess of the prescribed limit on his mount. On questioning App. Mustakim Alam stated that his mount was leaning outwards in the straight and as such he had used the whip as a corrective measure, as the same was borne out from the video of the race, no action has been initiated against the Jockey. However, Trainer Altaf Hussain has been asked to take remedial measures, before next accepting to race.
After the race, LION KING was trotted and found to be sound.

The urine samples of the winner of the 5th & 6th race, viz. MIDSUMMER STAR & SUPERLATIVE, and the special sample of KINZHAL (3rd race), were collected for detection of prohibited substance.

ADDITIONAL REPORTS:
RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “JERUSALEM” (DRAWN 5) IN RACE NO.111 – THE SONNY BRAR TROPHY (DIST. 2000 MTRS.) RUN ON SUNDAY, 19TH FEBRUARY 2023 :
In connection with the captioned subject matter, the Stewards of the Club considered all the papers and proceedings before them and having heard the submissions made by Jockey R. Ajinkya and Trainer M. Narredu, as also the Stipendiary Stewards, having viewed the video recordings of Race Nos. 77, 86 as also 111, the Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey R. Ajinkya and held him guilty of not permitting his mount JERUSALEM to run on its merits in the above race, in that:-
1. He could have been more vigorous in your riding efforts which he failed to do.
2. The Trainer has expressed his dissatisfaction with his riding in this race.
3. His instructions from the Trainer were (as agreed by him) to ride in a similar manner as the previous time when he won the race, i.e. to sit in a good position along the rails, come home the shortest way and to do his best as he know the horse. However, in the race in question he did not make any effort to follow the instructions and sat last and were not vigorous enough in his riding efforts which he is capable of and had exhibited the same in Race No. 77 where the gelding won.
4. From the transcripts of the enquiry before the Stipendiary Stewards, it was noted that he had given inconsistent statements regarding the positioning of his horse in the initial part of the race wherein he stated that his mount has no initial speed and subsequently he changed the statement by saying that he jumped out and settled his mount behind.
5. Further, he lost the whip at a very crucial stage of the race and when questioned in this regard, he had no plausible explanation other than saying it was his mistake, if not, he would have won the race.
6. He was given the opportunity to prove his innocence by handing over his Mobile Phone, Call records and Bank statement for further investigation, however, he refused to do so thereby, not helping the investigation reach its logical conclusion.
Therefore, the Stewards have decided to suspend his Jockey’s Licence for a period of 6 months i.e. w. e. f. 19th March 2023 upto the end of the Mumbai Meeting 2022/23 and thereafter, should he apply for grant of a Jockey’s License for the Racing Season 2023/24, the same shall be granted to him, however, his Licence shall stand suspended upto and inclusive of 19th September 2023.
Please note that during the period of his punishment:
a) He is not permitted to ride work;
b) He is not permitted to attend racing, on course or off course;
c) He is not permitted to enter the stable area at Mumbai and Pune;
ERRATUM
RE: RACE NO.6 (113) THE SION F. NESSIM PLATE: RUN ON 19TH FEBRUARY 2023.
Tr. Dallas Todywalla was erroneously fined Rs.1,000/- for shoeing error on his charge FASHION ICON in above race. On due enquiry, it was found that it was a software error and hence the fine has been rescinded.
