MONZA (Kavraj Singh) was held up for a clear run in the final stages of the race.

Trainer S.S.Shah was questioned regarding the comparative performance of his charge PAPAKURA in this race which the gelding won as compared to its earlier run in Race No 23 run on 2nd August 2014 where he was unplaced, about 12 lengths behind the winner. The Trainer stated that after the last run during the Mumbai Meeting, the gelding was sore from the right fore leg and had undergone treatment. He added that he had not given any pace work to the gelding coming into its first run in Race No 23. Further, considering the unsoundness of the gelding, he was unsure whether he should run the horse or not, however, he took a chance to race him over 1200 metres. Trainer S.S.Shah said that since the gelding returned sound after the first race, he decided to race him today as it was a restricted race for horses 5 year old over, over 1400 metres, which was the only such race during the current Pune Meeting. In his opinion, the favourite, MOON SHADOW, was too good and he had not fancied the gelding and he was available at longer odds. The explanation tendered by Trainer S.S.Shah was noted.

After the race, IN THE LIMELIGHT was found to be sore by the right fore leg. The gelding has to be passed fit by the Club’s VO before next accepting to race.

After the race, MOON SHADOW and SET TO FLY were found to be sound.

THUNDER STAR (S.Mosin) stumbled at the start.

At the start, LUCKY CHARM (Dashrath Singh) travelled wide.

Passing 1000 metres, PRETTY IN PATPONG (Hanumant Singh) travelled wide, due to which OCEAN STAR (Akash   Agarwal) travelled wide. Also, IN TIME (App.R.Ajinkya) travelled wide, due to which DIVINE WISH (A.Sandesh) travelled wide. At this stage, LUCKY CHARM (Dashrath Singh) shied away from the horses on its inside and travelled wider.

Approaching 600 metres, LUCKY CHARM (Dashrath Singh) shifted in and tightened DIVINE WISH (A.Sandesh) on to IN TIME (App.R.Ajinkya). On questioning, Jockey Dashrath Singh reported that his mount ran green during the race and had shifted in on its own. The matter was reported to the Stewards for such action as deemed fit.

The Stewards considered the above report and having heard Trainer Narendra Lagad and Jockey Dashrath Singh and having viewed the video recording of this race as well as the horse’s previous race i.e. Race No.12 during the current Pune Meeting, and keeping in mind that the horse had run green in the previous race as well, decided to give Jockey Dashrath Singh the benefit of a grave doubt. However, Jockey Dashrath Singh was told that he should have been aware that there was a fancied runner on his inside and should have made more efforts to control the horse and he was severely cautioned for the future. Further, the Stipendiary Stewards were directed to inform Trainer Narendra Lagad to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the gelding.

After the race, LUCKY CHARM was observed to have an abrasion at the left hind fetlock. DIVINE WISH was found to be sound.
