Jewel Square brings glamour and fashion to the races in their inaugural foray

Jewel Square, RWITC’s newest sponsor, celebrated their inaugural foray of a racing association with the Club with pomp and splendour at Pune on Sunday.

Giving their support to the traditional General Rajendrasinhji Trophy, now re-christened a “Million”, this Derby prep race, which was stripped of its Graded status due to the Pattern Race norms, the race retained its prize money thanks to their generous contribution. With a 1 million purse, the nine furlong test attracted only six and fell to the Imitiaz trained filly, Zafayona, who gave the Tapia family- once prominent in the winners’ circle- a big win after several years.

The results of the F.D.Wadia Trophy and General Rajendrasinhji have clouded the Nanoli Derby picture and wears an open look, unless the first two in the Bangalore Derby take a shot at the Pune classic.

Jewel Square lined up an impressive array of models who sashayed clothing lines of top brands in the members’ enclosure before closing with a Grand Finale in the paddock- an unusual occurrence at Pune. The highlight was a superlative showing by singing sensation Manasi Scott, who was at her powerful best and her rendition of Waka Waka had the crowd on its feet.

The sponsors went away with a delightful experience and confirmed a renewed association next year.

Saturday belonged to DNA, the Club’s media partners, and a 15 horse field of unraced horses was fitting tribute to this media association.
