First Day of Royal Ascot at Hooves

Posted on - 15 Jun 2011

The first day of Royal Ascot was shown live at the Club’s new facility, Hooves, on a large screen.

The telecast was of very good quality, and nearly 75 members attended the opening day inspite of the incessant rain.

The approval to accept tote betting was the icing on the cake and proved very popular. The form guide, expert comments, and the commentary on BBC helped punters make valued judgements on their selections.

Also, because of the small pool, good odds were seen on the Club’s tote, which proved a bargain. For example, Canford Cliffs, in the opener, who was at 6 to 4 at Ascot, paid nearly 5 to 2 on the Club’s tote and those watching the screen odds, reaped a good harvest.

The RWITC also presented gift vouchers at the Four Seasons for those tipping the winners of the first two races in  a lucky draw.

With the tremendous response, the Club will be showing the Mysore races off course at the same venue, and is examining the possibility of making this a regular venue for all off course racing with the telecast on the large screen in air conditioned comfort.
