- By Usman Rangeela, Mumbai Mirror |

Former jockey turned trainer B Prakash succumbed to a massive heart attack in the early hours of Wednesday morning. It’s learnt that the young professional was accompanied by another jockey friend and was waiting to take an inter-city cab for Pune late on Tuesday night when he started feeling uneasy and vomited. His friend shifted him to the King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital where he reportedly breathed his last around 3 AM.

Prakash was just forty years old when death snatched him away. The young professional hailed from Pune and is former jockey Poonaji Bhosle’s son.

After tasting initial success as a rider in Western India, Prakash shifted his base to Bangalore where he was retained by racing baron late MAM Ramaswamy. His career flourished and Prakash continued his association with Ramaswamy for a decade till 2009.

Prakash had the unique distinction of riding 2000 winners including two Indian Derby winners, Starsky and Southern Regent. Prakash quit riding in December 2012 and was granted a trainer’s license a month later.

Prakash, whose funeral was slated to be held in Pune late on Wednesday night, is survived by his aged parents, elder brother, wife and two teenaged daughters.
