-By Shailendra Awasthi | TOI

Jockey-turned-trainer B Prakash passed away here on Wednesday morning following a massive heart attack. The 41-year-old is survived by his wife and two daughters. Prakash was currently a trainer at the Royal Western India Turf Club.

The son of a former jockey, PS Bhosale, Prakash had started riding at Mahalaxmi Racecourse in 1995 and won a couple of jockey titles as an apprentice before picking up his first pro jockey crown in 1999.

The 5’3 tall lad hit pay dirt a year later when he caught the imagination of Dr. MAM Ramaswamy, one of the leading horse owners in India.

Prakash won over 2000 races in a career lasting almost two decades which included over 100 Classics including two Indian Derby crowns.

Prakash won many top jockey championships in Mumbai, Pune and Chennai before parting ways with Ramaswamy in 2009. The same year he won the champion jockey crown during the 2009-10 Mumbai season when he rode 37 winners from a total of 118 mounts in a season which included 19 first favourites. In 2012, he hung his boots to become a trainer.
