Lull before the storm
Mumbai Mirror

It has suddenly turned quiet in the turf front after a rival political parties pitched for using the Race Course grounds for a heliport and a theme park and everything else in between. Vivek Jain, Chairman, RWITC has been emphatic that the race course, which celebrated 130 years this year has to continue for the sport and as an open space. He argues that the RWITC already maintains a helipad and a public park, both of which can be upgraded to meet the demands of the Congress and the Sena.

“We have walked the talk by initiating several activities that makes Mahalakshmi truly a green lung of Mumbai and perhaps are the only club in Mumbai on leased land that does so much for the city,” he said to this diarist. We believe he has sought meetings with both the Chief Minister and the Sena chief to seek their support “in not disturbing the historic usage of the area.” Well, priorities and promises do keep changing in poll season.
