After hosting several actors from Bollywood in the recent weeks, the Royal Western India Turf Club will have two unlikely guests at the Mahalaxmi Race Course. Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Dr Farooq Abdullah will accompany Nobel Laureate Dr Rajendra Pachauri, CEO of TERI (The Energy and Resource Institute) at the launch of the RWITC Foundation next Friday.
RWITC Chairman Vivek Jain believes that every CSR activity of the club should come under one umbrella, hence this initiative. The Green Circle, as the foundation will be called henceforth, will be the most innovative endeavour in RWITC’s history. The club plans to set an example by making use of every renewable and new energy source at its disposal at the racecourse. The foundation will also make a concerted effort to host sustainable activities to turn the green dream into a reality for the racecourse.
It’s a smart move on RWITC’s behalf, considering that there has been too much of negative publicity for the club after the expiry of the racecourse’s lease last May. The club now wants to turn a new leaf and not only wants to efficiently manage the city’s iconic green lung for the wellbeing of Mumbaikars but also hopes to ward off the evil eyes being cast upon its vast vacant spaces.
