More than horse sense

He continues to be the most popular man in the RWITC committee and has the votes to prove it. But if you’ve ever wondered why current chairman Vivek Jain’s goodwill among the decidedly fractious members of the high profile club hasn’t fluctuated, it’s something more than just his work horse approach and constantly sticking to the straight and narrow. While there are several other races which makes bigger splashes than the one named after his father, but trust Jain to add a human touch that makes it worth more than just the purse it offers. One of the highlights of this Sunday’s SC Jain Sprinters championship (named after father, a long serving chairman of the club) will be the showcasing of 15 horse head sculptures for a charity raffle - each of the sculptures crafted by Arzan Khambatta has been painted by a different Indian artist ranging from Jatin Das, Sujata Bajaj, Satish Gupta, Jaideep Mehrotra and Sunil Padwal. What we really liked is the fact that each of these sculptures, priced between Rs 1 - 3 lakh, will fund and adopt the complete treatment expense of one breast cancer patient at Cama and Albless hospital. In a fitting tribute to Jain senior’s love for art, even the trophy for this year is a handcrafted horse head painted by Padmashri Paresh Maity.
