RACE NO.1(160) - THE  ANTIQUITY RARE CUP  (DIV.II)(About) 1400 Metres.  Runners – 14

After being stalled, NATIONAL GOLD (J.Chinoy) started kicking the rear gate. The filly was taken out and examined by the Club’s V.O. and observed to have suffered a cut injury on the left hock and multiple abrasions on both hind legs. As such, NATIONAL GOLD was certified unfit to race and hence withdrawn before coming under the Starter’s Order. ZABARWAN (D.K.Ashish) and KOMANDANT (App.Bhawani Singh) were reluctant to be stalled. Trainers Narendra Lagad, Vinesh and Altamaash A.Ahmed have been asked to give their respective charge more gate practice and show them to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race. Further, Trainer Narendra Lagad has to obtain a fitness certificate for NATIONAL GOLD from the Club’s V.O., before next accepting to race the filly.

After being stalled, ZANTHOS (Amyn Merchant) hooked one of its hind legs on the side platform. The gelding was taken out and examined by the Club’s V.O who certified him fit to race.

ZABARWAN (D.K.Ashish) leaned outwards in the straight. Trainer Vinesh has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the gelding.

Jockey D.K.Ashish (ZABARWAN) did not persevere with his mount till past the post thereby losing a certain higher place. Not being satisfied with the explanation tendered by the jockey, the matter was reported to the Stewards.

The Stewards interviewed Jockey D.K.Ashish and he admitted that he had dropped his hands prematurely as he felt that he would place second, which was a mistake on his part and he sincerely apologized for the same. Having heard Jockey D.K.Ashish and viewing the video of the race, the Stewards directed the Stipendiary Stewards to deal with the matter.

Accordingly, the Stipendiary Stewards held Jockey.D.K.Ashish guilty of riding an over confident race wherein he had dropped his hands prematurely and failed to ride till past the Post thereby losing a certain higher placing. Therefore, they decided to suspend his Jockeys’ license w.e.f 15th February 2015 to 28th February 2015 (both days inclusive) (Permitted to ride work/Mock race).

Trainer M.Narredu and Jockey S.Mosin were questioned regarding the poor performance of SOOTHSAYER. Jockey S.Mosin stated that his instruction were to be in 3rd / 4th position and to ride out in the straight.  He said that the gelding raced along well till coming into the straight but when asked for an effort, he did not improve and raced at one pace. Trainer M.Narredu stated that probably the weight and the trip of 1400 metres proved to be at the gelding’s disadvantage.  He opined that the gelding did not improve in the straight. A further enquiry will be conducted into the performance of SOOTHSAYER and report will be submitted shortly.

Jockey A.Sandesh (VICTORY DANCER), when questioned, stated that his instructions were to be in 3rd/4th position. He said that the filly did not improve in the straight as she was tired. The explanation was noted.

After the race, SAILPAST was observed to have injury on the left fore hoof. VICTORY DANCER, SOOTHSAYER (examined on 01/02/2015) and WIND AND RAIN (examined on 01/02/2015) were found to be sound.

RACE NO.2(161) - THE BAGPIPER CHAMPIONSHIP (DIV.II)  (About) 1200 Metres. Runners - 10

Jockey A.Sandesh (BULLION EXPRESS), when questioned, stated that his instructions were to be in 3rd/4th position. He explained that the gelding jumped out awkwardly towards inside and then was crowded in the early part of the race and lost his position. Thereafter he rode out in the straight.  The explanation was noted.

After the race, WARRIOR PRINCE was observed to have broken a blood vessel and is not to race for the stipulated ban period of four weeks. The gelding has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.

After the race, BULLION EXPRESS was found to be sound.

RACE NO.3(162) - THE BLACK DOG TROPHY: (About) 1200 Metres. Runners – 11

App.Yash Narredu (WILD WAVES) reported that his mount lugged in during the race. Trainer Altaf Hussain has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the gelding.

Trainer P. Shroff and Jockey D.K.Ashish were questioned regarding the running and riding of MAISHA. The Jockey stated that the instructions were to sit in mid bunch and ride out in the straight. He added that near 800 metres the pace slowed down and his filly became keen whereby she clipped the heels of ONE KEPT SECRET and stumbled and coming into the straight there was no gap on his inside and therefore he pulled his mount out and rode out. Trainer P. Shroff was not satisfied with the Jockey’s riding, in that, in his opinion the jockey should have been alert at the start whereby the filly should have got a fair start. Secondly, coming into the straight the jockey should have waited and weighed his options as, at times, the field drifts out and an opportunity is created to come from the shortest way home, instead the jockey chose to move out and travel more ground. Thirdly, he stated that the jockey had allowed his mount to drift out under the use of the whip thereby losing further ground. Consideration of the matter was deferred to a future meeting of the Stewards.

After the race, MAISHA and RANTHAMBHORE (examined on 01/02/2015) were found to be sound.

ADDITIONAL REPORTS :

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE COMPARATIVE PERFORMANCE OF “PAPPILLON” IN RACE NO.139 RUN ON 18/01/2015 WHICH THE GELDING WON AS COMPARED TO ITS RUN IN RACE NO.65 RUN ON 18/12/2014 WHERE HE WAS UNPLACED

Trainer Hosidar Daji was questioned in the above connection. He stated that the gelding won a race on the last day of the Pune Meeting 2014 and thereafter had not travelled well to Mumbai and took some time to get acclimatized. He said that the gelding had fever and therefore he had given him a month off. He added that the previous race was run at a faster pace and was 2 seconds faster as compared to Race No.139 and the company was better wherein the winner, AQUAMARINE placed in the Oaks subsequently. To another question, Trainer Hosidar Daji stated that the gelding was a longer odds in both the races and that he had declared Jockey A.Sandesh this time on the insistence of the owner. As regards the common horse, SAVAGE GARDEN, the trainer said that the said horse had run in between the two races and had only shown decline in its form.

After scrutinizing the betting sheets and the work log books and keeping in mind that the running pattern was similar in both the races, the explanation tendered by Trainer Hosidar Daji was noted.
