RACE DAY REPORTS

RAILS WERE PLACED FROM 1300 METRES (BACK STRETCH) LEADING TO 4 METRES AWAY AT 1200 METRES, 8 METRES AWAY AT 1000 METRES AND THEREAFTER 9 METRES AWAY UP TO THE WINNING POST. DUE TO NON CONDUCIVE UNDERFOOT CONDITIONS ON CERTAIN PORTION OF THE CHUTE,NO RACES WERE RUN AT THE CHUTE.

On a request from Trainer Shyam S.Habbu, permission was granted to Trainer P.Shroff to saddle his charge LASERRE in the 7th race, at his (Trainer Shyam S.Habbu’s) risk and responsibility.

On a request from Trainer M.K.Jadhav, permission was granted to Assistant Trainer Jude Stephanson, to saddle his charge POUND FOOLISH in the 7th race, at his (Trainer M.K.Jadhav’s) risk and responsibility.

RACE NO.1 (142) – THE  BOOKIE’S DELIGHT PLATE (DIV.II): (About) 1400 Metres, Runners – 8

 

Jockey Neeraj Rawal (RED CLOUD) reported that his mount lugged out in the straight. Trainer Narendra Lagad has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the gelding.

 

After the race, INNER HARMONY, DOUBLE DELITE & RED CLOUD were found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.2 (143) – THE BOOKIE’S DELIGHT PLATE (DIV.I): (About) 1400 Metres, Runners – 9

 

SUPREME LADY (Amyn Merchant) was reluctant to be stalled. Trainer Adil Dajee has been asked to give the filly more gate practice and show her to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

 

Jockey D.S.Rathore (SUN KISSED) reported that he had difficulty in settling his mount in the early part of the race.

Near 1100 metres, ADAMS PRINCE (C.S.Jodha) lugged in possibly due to the proximity of CONZTANZA (App.M.A.Roushan) on its outside who had shifted in as ARISEN STAR (Dashrath Singh) shifted in. Jockey Dashrath Singh has been reprimanded.

 

Jockey Amyn Merchant (SUPREME LADY) reported that his mount lugged in during the race. The Sr.V.O. was requested to examine the filly and he reported that SUPREME LADY was found to be sound, having wolf tooth on the right side. Trainer Adil Dajee has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the filly.  

 

Jockey Dashrath Singh (ARISEN STAR) reported that his mount lugged in while negotiating the bend. Trainer Narendra Lagad has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the gelding.

OCEAN QUEEN (R Rupesh) lugged out in the straight. Trainer Vinayak has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the filly.  

 

An enquiry has been initiated into the running and riding of SUN KISSED and a report will be submitted shortly.

After the race, OCEAN QUEEN & ARISEN STAR were found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.3 (144)  – THE  FIDDLE FADDLE PLATE: (About) 1600 Metrrs, Runners - 6

 

Near 1000 metres, TEQUILA (Dashrath Singh), who was keen, shifted out as the mare was being settled and forced SABA (App.A.Sandesh) to travel wide. The incident was accidental as such no action was initiated in the matter.

 

Jockey Suraj Narredu (GO GUZZI GO) reported that his mount lugged out in the straight. Trainer M.Narredu has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the gelding.

 

After the race, OH CALCUTTA was found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.4 (145)  – THE AVANTAGE PLATE (DIV.II) (About) 1200 Metres - Runners – 11

 

Jockey R.Hughes (BIG TIME GIRL) lugged-in in the final stages of the race due to which RESOLUTE BAY (Suraj Narredu) did not get galloping room and in the process ARSHAVIN  (Imran Chisty) who was racing behind RESOLUTE  BAY, was hampered for a run. Trainer Janardhan has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the filly.   

 

After the race, BLUE FLASH was found to be sore by the right fore leg. The gelding has to be passed fit by the Club’s VO before next accepting to race.

After the race, SWEATY BETTY was observed to have broken a blood vessel and is not to race for the stipulated period of four weeks. The filly has to be passed fit by the Club’s VO before next accepting to race.

After the race, ARSHAVIN was found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.5 (146) – THE A.F.S.TALYARKHAN TROPHY: (About) 1200 Metres, Runners- 8

 

Near 900 metres, VOYAGER  (B.Prakash) lugged in and hampered the running of IVORY MINT  (A.M.Tograllu) who in turn shifted in and inconvenienced RADICAL MACKIE (Zameer Sayyed). Trainer P.Shroff has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the colt. 

 

Jockey A.M.Tograllu (IVORY MINT) has been fined Rs. 3000/- for improper use of the whip wherein the Jockey persisted with the use of the whip thereby keeping an erratic course in the straight.

 

After the race, VOYAGER was found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.6 (147)  – THE  MAGIC TOUCH PLATE : (About) 1200 Metres, Runners - 10

 

At the behest of the Stipendiary Stewards, a Stewards’ Enquiry  was held in this race. The reason being, passing 200 metres, STAR SYMPHONY (R.Hughes, placed 3rd) shifted in under use of the whip and went on to ZARACHA (Suraj Narredu) who got unbalanced and had to be checked. Further, approaching the Winning Post, STAR SYMPHONY shifted out and bumped CARIBBEAN QUEEN (B.Prakash).  After considering the submissions made by the Jockeys concerned, in conjunction with that of the Stipendiary Stewards/Racing Advisor and relying on their judgment, the Stewards decided to maintain the Order of Placing as declared by the Judge. 

 

The Stewards after the last race interviewed Jockey R.Hughes, the rider of STAR SYMPHONY in the above connection and having heard him and viewing the video recording of the race, decided to give him the benefit of the doubt.

 

RACE NO.7 (148) – THE  FERRARI PLATE: (About) 2000 Metres -  Runners - 16

 

Jockey T.S.Jodha (AZUL) has been fined Rs.1000/- for using the whip in excess of the prescribed limit on his mount.

App.A.Sandesh (POUND FOOLISH) reported that his mount lugged-in in the straight. Trainer M.K.Jadhav has to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the mare.                 

 

After the race, PURE POWER & RODRIGO were found to be sore by the right fore leg and left fore leg respectively. Both the horses have to be passed fit by the Club’s VO before next accepting to race.

After the race, SOLAR ANGEL was found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.8 (149) – THE  BYCULLA CLUB TROPHY: (About) 2800 Metres -  Runners - 5

 

At the start, CLARION CALL (Dashrath Singh), in the process of being settled, shifted out and went on to AUTONOMY (Y.S.Srinath) carrying the latter outwards. Jockey Dashrath Singh has been fined Rs.2000/- for failing to exercise proper control over his mount.

 

Soon thereafter,  AUTONOMY (Y.S.Srinath) shifted inwards as the gelding was being settled.

Jockey R.Hughes (HIGHLAND CROWN) reported that his mount did not get a clear run in the final 100 metres.

 

Jockey Y.S.Srinath (AUTONOMY) has been cautioned for shifting-in in the final 200 metres.

 

Jockey S.Zervan (STRELITZIA) was questioned regarding the handling of his mount in this race. Jockey S.Zervan stated that he was asked to settle his mount but he completely misjudged the pace. Not being satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey S Zervan, the matter was reported to the Stewards.

 

The Stewards interviewed Trainer P.Shroff and Jockey S.Zervan and having heard them and viewing the video recording of the race, the Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey S.Zervan and held him guilty of riding grossly misjudged race on STRELITZIA. However, considering that Jockey S.Zervan had accepted his guilt and apologized for the same, the Stewards took a very lenient view in the matter and instead of suspending his Jockey’s license, decided to fine him a sum of Rs.10,000/-

 

After the race, STRELITZIA was found to be sound, having a cut injury on the right nostril.

 

RACE NO.9 (150) – THE  AVANTAGE PLATE (DIV.I): (About) 1200 Metres -  Runners - 12

 

Jockey R.Hughes (HIGH SOCIETY) reported that his mount jumped tardily and did not gallop in the race.

 

STERLING SILVER (Paul Mulrennan) lugged out during the race, TAMARAI (S.Zervan) lugged out for a brief period passing 200 metres and BLUE MELON (S.Sunil) lugged out while negotiating the bend. Trainers Narendra Lagad, P.Shroff and Faisal A.Abbas have been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race with their respective charges.

 

After the race, STERLING SILVER, HIGH SOCIETY, BANANA BOY, TAMARAI & ENCHANTING were found to be sound.

The urine sample of winner of  2nd & 7th race viz. PHAROAH & AZUL and the special sample of BLUE FLASH, STAR ZONE  & SWEATY BETTY (4th race), RADICAL MACKIE, VISIONIST, VOYAGER & THRICE BLESSED (5th race), STAR SYMPHONY & CARIBBEAN QUEEN (6th race), HIGHLAND CROWN & STRELITZIA (8th race) and TAMARAI & HIGH SOCIETY (9th race), were collected for detection of prohibited substance.

RE : APPEAL FROM TRAINER NIRAD KARANJAWALA IN RESPECT OF THE DECISION OF THE STEWARDS OF THE CLUB (AS REGARDS ENQUIRY IN RESPECT OF SALE OF b c LIBOR / DIAMOND DREAMS (MOUNTAIN KING) TAKEN AT THEIR MEETING HELD ON SUNDAY, 12TH DECEMBER, 2010 TO SUSPEND HIS TRAINER’S LICENSE W.E.F. 30/12/2010 TILL THE END OF THE MUMBAI MEETING 2010/11 AND THEREAFTER SHOULD HE APPLY FOR A TRAINER’S LICENSE UNDER THE RULES OF THIS CLUB FOR THE SEASON 2011/12, NOT TO GRANT HIM THE SAME UP TO AND INCLUSIVE OF 30/12/2011.

 

The Board of Appeal at its Meeting held on 17th January, 2011 considered appeal dated 14th December, 2010 from Trainer Nirad Karanjawala in the above connection.

 

The Board of Appeal, having considered all documents, papers, proceedings etc. in the captioned matter as also the submissions (oral and written) made by Trainer Nirad Karanjawala/his Spokesman, Mr.Adi Copper, and after having deliberated on the matter at length and having applied their minds to the same, came to the conclusion that there is no merit in his Appeal and accordingly decided to reject his Appeal and uphold the order of the Stewards of the Club. The Board of Appeal also decided to forfeit his deposit. Accordingly, the Decision of the Stewards of the Club stands, in that :

 

(i)         Since Trainer Nirad Karanjawala was granted a stay on the abovementioned punishment, his punishment would now come into effect from 8.00 p.m. on 20th January, 2011 to 20th January, 2012 i.e. his current Trainer’s license shall stand suspended w.e.f. 20th January, 2011 (8.00 p.m.) till the end of the Mumbai Meeting 2010/2011. Thereafter, should he apply for a Trainer’s license under the Rules of this Club, for the Season 2011/2012, the same shall not be granted to him up to and inclusive of 20th January, 2012.

 

ii)          Also, as imposed by the Stewards of the Club, there shall be a suspended sentence of two years over the next five years i.e. if he was found guilty of any act of misconduct or found guilty of committing irregularities and breaches of the Club’s Rules and procedures or flouting the Rules of Racing / Notifications, etc. of the Club, within the next five years commencing from 21st January, 2012, then the aforesaid suspended sentence of punishment of two years would immediately come into force and effect and which aforesaid punishment would be in addition to any other punishment which the Stewards may impose on him for any subsequent act of his as regards the aforesaid.

 

iii)         As voluntarily agreed by him before the Stewards of the Club, he would have to clear the debits of Rs.1,12,000/- in the account of Mr.Parvez Dulha Khan, which is the amount the Club had suffered monetary loss owing to his acts of misfeasance.

GENERAL  - MORNING TRACK WORK –  17TH JANUARY, 2011 AND 19TH JANUARY, 2011:

 

i) The Sr.V.O. reported that after the morning track work on 17th January, 2011 BEEMER was observed to have broken a blood vessel and is not to race for the stipulated period of 4 weeks. The gelding has to be passed fit by the Club’s VO before next accepting to race.

 

ii) The Sr.V.O. reported that after the morning track work on 19th January, 2011 TATTENHOE & STARDOM BOUND were observed to have broken a blood vessel and are not to race for the stipulated period of 4 weeks. Both the horses have to be passed fit by the Club’s VO before next accepting to race.
