RACE NO 6 (39) – THE ALBERTINI PLATE: (About) 1400 Metres. Runners – 10

The Sr.V.O. reported that before the 6th race, during routine check up for identification of runners, MOUNTAIN GLORY was observed to be bleeding from both the nostrils. The horse was in a state of hyper excitement and breathing heavily. As such, the horse was certified unfit to race and hence withdrawn on veterinary grounds. Trainer C.D.Katrak is required to obtain a fitness certificate from the Club’s Sr.V.O before next accepting to race the colt.

At the start, BOLD DANCER (App.P.Trevor, dr.8) lugged in and tightened the field on the inside, effecting ROYAL COMPANION (P.S.Chouhan, dr.7), who went on to ROYAL HIGHNESS (App.M.A.Roushan, dr.6) who was awkwardly placed behind the hells of SNOW QUEEN (D.A.Naik) and was steadied.

Soon after the start, TELL ME MORE (Shrikant Kamble) was tightened while racing on the inside of ALEXUS (Y.S.Srinath) and lost position.

It was observed that approaching 800 metres, ALEXUS (Y.S.Srinath) shifted out and carried TAKESTWOTOTANGO (Neeraj Rawal) outwards on to VENUS ROSEWATER (C.Rajendra) who was taken away from its rightful running. On questioning, Jockey YS Srinath, he stated that ROYAL COMPANION (P.S.Chouhan), who was racing ahead, had  shifted in and he had to shift out at  that stage to avoid clipping ROYAL COMPANION. Not being satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey Y.S.Srinath, he was fined Rs.5,000/- by the Stipendiary Stewards for failing to exercise proper control over his mount.

Jockey Y.S.Srinath requested for an audience with the Stewards in the above connection.

The Stewards after the last race interviewed Jockey Y.S.Srinath as also Jockey P.S.Chouhan, the rider of ROYAL COMPANION, in the above connection. Jockey Y.S.Srinath was also permitted to cross examine Jockey P.S.Chouhan. The Stewards having considered all the submissions made and having viewed the video recording of the race, were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey Y.S.Srinath in the subject case and considered his riding on ALEXUS to be on the border line of careless riding. However, the Stewards decided to give him the benefit of doubt for careless riding and confirmed the fine of Rs.5,000/- imposed on him by the Stipendiary Stewards for failing to exercise proper control over his mount.

Between 300 metres and 200 metres, TELL ME MORE (Shrikant Kamble) was ridden in check due to BOLD DANCER (App.P.Trevor) coming on to him and tightening the former. The matter was reported to the Stewards since the interference may have cost TELL ME MORE the race.

The Stewards after the last race interviewed App.P.Trevor, who was accompanied by his Master, Tr.S.K.Sunderji, in the above connection and having considered all the submissions made by him/his Master and viewing the video recording of the race, the Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by App.P.Trevor and held him guilty of careless riding on his mount BOLD DANCER . In that,  he used the whip with the left hand and shifted in, thereby taking the ground of TELL ME MORE (Shrikant Kamble) who had to stop riding at a crucial stage of the race and pull his mount out, which may have cost him the race. Therefore, the Stewards decided to suspend his Apprentice Jockey’s license for 21st August, 2011 (permitted to ride work/mock race). Further, he was warned to be more careful in the future.

In the final stages of the race, ROYAL HIGHNESS (App.M.A.Roushan) shifted ground inwards and caused TELL ME MORE (Shrikant Kamble) to shift in, who in turn inconvenienced BOLD DANCER (App.P.Trevor).

The explanation of  Jockey P.S.Chouhan (ROYAL COMPANION) that he met with interference at the start, and then he had to brush up his mount  to take the position as instructed which was to be well up and the horse fizzled out in the straight, was noted.

After the race, SNOW QUEEN was found to be sore by the left fore leg. The mare has to be passed fit by the Club’s VO before next accepting to race.

After the race, BOLD DANCER was found to be sound, having an abrasion at the right hock and a cut injury at the right hind fetlock.

Trainers Shyam S.Habbu and Dallas Todywalla  have been asked to give their respective charge more gate practice and show them to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

At the start, TEODOR (Shrikant Kamble) and GLOWING MIST (C.S.Jodha) shifted in and out respectively and made contact with each other. Both the Jockeys, Shrikant Kamble and C.S.Jodha, have been cautioned.

Approaching 1200 metres, HILL RANGER (D.K.Ashish) was tightened due to a tightly packed field and clipped and stumbled. dislodging its Rider. Due to the incident, Jockey C.S.Jodha (GLOWING MIST) and Jockey S.Zervan (BESAME MUCHO) took evasive action to avoid the fallen Jockey.

Passing 800 metres, IMPERIAL STAR (Dashrath Singh) shifted in and went across FLASHFORWARD (Vikram Jodha). Jockey Dashrath Singh has been cautioned.

Jockey S.Zervan (BESAME MUCHO) reported the loss of whip about 50 metres from the Winning Post.

The Sr.V.O. reported that HILL RANGER (D.K.Ashish) stumbled and fell near the 1200 metres marker. On examination, the colt was found to be sore from the right fore leg. Also, the colt had an abrasion at the right knee, fore arm and right shoulder and was bleeding from the left nostril. First aid treatment was given and the colt was sent to the Equine Hospital for further management. The colt has to be passed fit by the Club’s VO before next accepting to race.

RACE NO 8 (41) - THE HURRICANE PLATE: (About) 1600 Metres.   Runners – 13

PTOLEMY (J.Chinoy) reared up in the stall displacing its saddle completely.  As the entire field was already stalled, PTOLEMY was withdrawn from the race before coming under the Starter’s Order. Trainer Janardhan has been asked to give the gelding more gate practice and show him to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Saturday, 6th August, 2011 considered the evidence obtained by the Stipendiary Stewards/Sr.V.O. in the above enquiry and interviewed Trainer Robert D’Mellow.

The Stewards after having thoroughly enquired into the matter and having applied their minds to the entire facts and circumstances of the case and to all papers, proceedings reports and also having permitted Trainer Robert D’Mellow to make submissions in the subject matter, found that he had no mitigating circumstances to offer in the subject case and as such, held him guilty of breach of the Medication Rules, consequently he became vicariously liable.

The Stewards noted that this was Trainer Robert D’Mellow’s fifth infringement of the Medication Rules, however, his last infringement of the Medication Rules was 11 years ago. Taking an overall view, the Stewards decided to take lenient action and :-

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “ARISTOCRATIC” IN RACE NO.32 – THE TRIBUTE TROPHY (1000 METRES) RUN ON FRIDAY, 29TH JULY, 2011 ::

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer C.D.Katrak and Jockey Amyn Merchant in the above connection. Trainer C.D.Katrak stated that he had instructed Jockey Amyn Merchant to give the horse a chance in the early part, gradually improve and to ride out in the straight. He added that he had also told the Jockey that the horse has soundness problem and is a bleeder and therefore not to use the whip and not  to give a very hard race. He said that this horse last won a race two years ago.

Jockey Amyn Merchant confirmed the instructions and said that after coming into the straight he had ridden out the horses hands and heels.

Trainer C.D.Katrak stated that even if the Jockey had used the whip, the horse would have still finished forth since the distance between the third and fourth horse was 3 lengths which the horse could not have covered up.

Not being satisfied with the explanation tendered by Trainer C.D.Katrak, he was fined Rs.5,000/-  and Jockey Amyn Merchant was severely cautioned to be more vigorous in his efforts in the future.
