The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Friday, 21st December, 2018  interviewed Trainer Shazaan Shah in the above connection.

The Stewards of the Club having heard Trainer Shazaan Shah and Mr.Sarfaraz (Permission Boy), were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Trainer Shazaan Shah and held him guilty of gross misconduct under Rule 114 (b) of the Rules of Racing. In that,

1)            As stated by Riding Boy Sarfaraz, this was not the first instance that Trainer Shazaan Shah has manhandled him.

2)            The Stewards did not accept his explanation that he felt that the Permission Boy was faking illness to avoid work and his only intention was to discipline him. He was aware that in such a scenario his recourse was to lodge a written complaint and he had no right to take law into his own hands.

3)            The Stewards noted this was Trainer Shazaan Shah’s second case of gross misconduct, in the earlier incident that took place on 3rd January, 2017, the Stewards had suspended his Trainer’s license w.e.f. 7th January, 2017 to 22nd January, 2017 and had imposed on him a suspended sentence of 1 month over the next five years and he was told that if he was found guilty of any act of misbehavior / misconduct within the next five years, then the aforesaid suspended sentence of 30 days would immediately come into force  in addition to any other punishment which the Stewards may impose on him for any subsequent act of his as regards the aforesaid.

Taking an overall view and keeping in mind that Trainer Shazaan Shah had admitted his guilt and apologized for the same and assured the Stewards that he would never misbehave in the future, the Stewards decided :-

a)            For the present case, to suspend his Trainer’s license for 8 Race Days from  24th December, 2018 to 24th January, 2019 for gross misconduct under Rule 114 (b) of the Rules of Racing;

b)            To invoke the suspended sentence of one month imposed on him by the Stewards of the Club on 5th January, 2017 and to further suspend his Trainer’s license from 25th January, 2019 up to and inclusive of 24th February, 2019.

c)             Further, he was cautioned to control his temper and that any acts of misbehavior / misconduct by him in the future, will be severely dealt with by the Stewards which may include withdrawal of his license.

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Sunday, 23rd December, 2018  considered letter dated 22nd December, 2018 from Trainer Shazaan Shah requesting for a stay on the above punishment imposed on him for gross misconduct and to start his punishment from March, 2019. The Stewards of the Club having deliberated on the matter regretted their ability to accede to his request.
