ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “MACHO MAN” IN RACE NO.81 – THE VESUVIUS PLATE (DIV.I) RUN ON 20TH DECEMBER, 2012:
The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Anil Kumar and Jockey Kavraj Singh in the above connection. Trainer Anil Kumar said that this horse always ran detached from the field previously. However, he wanted the Jockey to do his best and take the best possible position in this race, as such he had instructed the Jockey to take a good jump and settle him in whatever position he could get, keep riding out and to do his best. When asked about his observation of the race, he said that except for the last 20 to 30 metres where the Jockey had not ridden out the horse, he was satisfied with the Jockey’s riding.
The video recording of the race was shown and it was pointed out to Trainer Anil Kumar that the Jockey had stopped riding almost 300 metres before the winning post. Trainer Anil Kumar said that he had not seen the race properly and agreed with the Stipes view. He said that after the race, the Jockey had informed him that the horse was tired, but he had fired the Jockey that this sort of riding may get both of them in trouble and he did not take any further action keeping in mind that this was the best run of the horse.
Jockey Kavraj Singh said that he was asked to go to the front and to do his best. He said that the horse did not have initial speed and hence he was not able to go to the front but thereafter he kept niggling at the horse and coming into the straight he received interference passing 400 metres and thereafter the horse was tired.
The video recording of Race No.81 was viewed and Jockey Kavraj Singh was informed that the interference he claimed to have received passing 400 metres, was not evident on the video recording. Trainer Anil Kumar concurred with the Stipes view. It was further pointed out to Jockey Kavraj Singh that coming into the straight he had just pushed the horse for a few strides and thereafter stopped riding. Jockey Kavraj Singh reiterated that the horse was tired.
Not being satisfied with the explanation tendered by Trainer Anil Kumar and Jockey Kavraj Singh, both have been fined Rs.5,000/- each for unsatisfactory running and riding of the horse.
