RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “PRONTO STAR” IN RACE NO.15 – THE GRAND PASSION PLATE (1400) METRES RUN ON THURSDAY, 17TH NOVEMBER, 2011 :
The Stewards at their meeting held on Sunday, 27th November, 2011 considered the evidence obtained by the Stipendiary Stewards in the above connection.
The Stewards interviewed Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait and Jockey Y.Srinath and having considered all the submissions made by them and having viewed the video recording of the race (all angles), the Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey Y.S.Srinath in the subject case and held him guilty of unsatisfactory riding on his mount PRONTO STAR in the above race. The Stewards noted that :-
1) Jockey Y.S.Srinath had ridden this horse three times prior to the race in question and by his own admission, this horse performs well only if he hits the front or is allowed to be with the pace from a well up position and he has won his only race at Bangalore by going to the front. Despite this, he did not make sufficient effort to hit the front or sit well up and chose to settle the horse way behind in 7th/8th position.
2) At around 850 metres he had the chance to pull his horse out and improve his position and sit closer to the front runners which he failed to do and was content being in the same 7th/8th position.
3) At about 450 metres, he was racing four or five horses off the rails and there was only one horse racing on his outside and he had the chance to make his move to the outside, however, he unnecessarily chose to take the inner route knowing fully well that there was a wall of horses in front and he may not get an opening and thereafter again pulled the horse out when it was too late.
4) PRONTO STAR was the favourite and the Stewards expect a Jockey of his caliber to use far better judgement and such handling of the horse was not acceptable to them.
Taking an overall view, the Stewards decided to suspend his Jockey’s license w.e.f. 15th December, 2011 to 25th December, 2011 (both days inclusive) for unsatisfactory riding on his mount PRONTO STAR in the above race (permitted to ride work/mock race).
Further, the Stewards took grave umbrage to the manner in which Jockey Y.S.Srinath conducted himself before the Stewards during the enquiry. In that, the Stewards noted that he was extremely arrogant and passed unwarranted remarks in a rude tone and manner which was totally uncalled for. His conduct was not of a professional and which was totally unacceptable to the Stewards. Therefore, the Stewards held Jockey Y.S.Srinath guilty of improper behavior/misconduct during the enquiry.
The Stewards also noted that action had been initiated against Jockey Y.S.Srinath in the past for improper behavior in the Stewards Room and he had also been warned in this connection.
However, taking an overall view and keeping in mind that he had tendered an apology for his misbehavior/misconduct in the present case, the Stewards took a lenient view in the matter and decided :-
a) To further suspend his Jockey’s license w.e.f. 26th December, 2011 to 12th January, 2012 (both days inclusive) (permitted to ride work/mock race).
b) To fine him a sum of Rs.25,000/-.
Further, Jockey Y.S.Srinath was warned that the Stewards had taken lenient action this time and on a repetition of similar offence in the future, very severe action would be initiated against him
