RE : RACE NO.218 – THE BLURR PLATE (DIV.II) RUN ON THURSDAY, 23RD FEBRUARY, 2012 – JOCKEY AKSHAY, RIDER OF “FORTUNER” – REPORTED TO THE STEWARDS FOR CARELESS RIDING :

The Stewards at their meeting held on Sunday, 26th February, 2012 interviewed Jockey Akshay in the above connection and having considered the submissions made by him and having viewed the video recording of Race No.218, the Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey Akshay and held him guilty of careless riding on his mount FORTUNER. In that, he had shifted inwards before the Red Marker and jostled with MONARCHOS (Vikram Jodha) who shifted in and went across TEODOR (App.Nikhil Bhujbal) and caused severe interference to LAKE ONTARIO (R.Shelar).

The Stewards noted that  Jockey Akshay’s license already stands suspended up to 22nd March, 2012 for dangerous riding on FESTIVAL NIGHT. Therefore, the Stewards decided to further suspend his Jockey’s license for 25th March, 2012 for careless riding on his mount FORTUNER. (permitted to ride work/mock race). Further,  he was warned to be more careful in the future.

In connection with the above incident, Jockey P.S.Chouhan (ALEUTIAN ZONE, dr.9) has been fined Rs.1000/-  for shifting in before the Red Marker.

ENQUIRY INTO THE COMPARATIVE PERFORMANCE OF “COUGAR” IN RACE NO.219 – THE FLYING BRAVE PLATE (DIV.II) (1600 METRES) RUN ON THURSDAY, 23RD FEBRUARY, 2012 WHICH THE GELDING WON AS COMPARED TO HIS PREVIOUS RUN IN RACE NO.175 (1600 METRES) RUN ON 4TH FEBRUARY, 2012 WHERE HE WAS UNPLACED:

Trainer H.J.Antia was questioned in the above connection. He said that he had given similar instructions in both the races i.e. to settle the horse in 3rd/4th position and to do the best. He said that in Race No.175 it was a big field of 22 runners and early pace was slow and Jockey Amyn Merchant settled the horse up front but could not keep the horse covered up and showed him day light for nearly 1200 metres, due to which the horse did not respond when the Jockey asked for an effort in the straight and dropped back. After the race Jockey Amyn Merchant suggested to run the horse over a shorter trip of 1200 metres next time as he felt that the horse had the speed but he did not agree with the Jockey’s opinion and felt that the horse had performed poorly as he was not kept covered up. Tr.Antia said that in Race No.219, the field was small and HYMN PATH went to the front and set a fast pace and the other horses were able to settle behind nicely which may have suited his horse and this was his maiden win. Trainer Antia said that COUGAR is a five year old horse and despite declaring good caliber Jockeys, he was not able to win a race with him earlier and the horse was for sale for the last one month but there were no buyers. Trainer Antia said that this time he had declared an allowance claiming boy just to help the horse but even at this handicap he did not give the horse any chance considering his poor run in Race No.175 and the win surprised him.

The Stewards at their meeting held on 26th February, 2012 interviewed Tr.H.J.Antia in the above connection and the explanation tendered by him was noted.
