ADDITIONAL REPORTS:

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “CHARLIE” (DRAWN 8) RUN IN RACE NO.21 – THE IBRAHIM A. RAHIMTOOLA TROPHY (DIST. 1200 MTRS) ON 4TH DECEMBER 2022 :

Trainer Vinesh and Jockey Vikram Jodha were questioned on 9th December 2022 into the captioned matter.

Trainer Vinesh stated that his instructions were to sit in 3rd, 4th or 5th position and to start improving from 800 metres thereafter, turning for home to come from the outside and to do his best. On being asked for his observations of the race trainer Vinesh stated that while the Jockey had made an effort to get into position as instructed however in the straight, he had drifted out thus losing ground and thereafter his riding in the final furlong was weak and attributed it to Jockeys caliber. It was pointed out to him that he had declared a jockey of his choice and to question the jockey’s competence is not acceptable.

Jockey Vikram Jodha having confirmed the riding instructions stated that he has ridden the horse from the word-go and in the straight, the gelding had shifted out under the whip which he had immediately corrected. On being asked about his efforts in the final furlong he stated that he has done his best and added that this may be his 3rd or 4th ride after a long gap.

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on 18th December 2022, having heard the submission made by Trainer Vinesh and Jockey Vikram Jodha and also having viewed the race in question. The Stewards of the Club, decided to caution both Trainer and Jockey.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “SUSSING” (DRAWN 4) RUN IN RACE NO.31 – THE SPORTS EX CONSULTANCY TROPHY- DIV-II (DIST. 1400 MTRS) ON 11TH DECEMBER 2022 :

Trainer H. J. Antia and App. A. S. Peter were called in and questioned on 14th December 2022 into the captioned matter.

On being asked, trainer H. J. Antia stated that his instructions were to settle and do his best in the straight and when asked what it meant by settle he stated that he instructed the apprentice to sit 3rd, 4th or 5th position.

Apprentice A. S. Peter having confirmed the instructions stated that the mare was hanging in, in the straight and also does the same during morning work.

On being asked for his observation Trainer H. J. Antia stated that the mare has a tendency to lean in (hang-in)

The race in question and the previous race of the mare were viewed.

On being questioned with regards to the change in the running pattern the trainer stated that considering that the mare would weaken in the final furlong when she raced well up he had decided to try and settle her and come from behind.

The Stipendiary Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by both the trainer and jockey in that the trainer has changed the pattern of running thereby placing the mare at a disadvantage and as for the Apprentice he has not ridden out the mare in the straight, further, the statement of the apprentice with regards to the mare hanging in could not be borne out in the video recordings.

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on 25th December 2022, having heard the submissions made and viewed the race in question as also the previous races of the mare and decided to fine Trainer H. J. Antia Rs.10,000/- for unsatisfactory running and Apprentice A. S. Peter has been suspended for two race days i.e. on 15th and 21st January 2023 (permitted to ride work/mock race) for unsatisfactory riding.
